So, anyone else bothered by the fact that at settlements only the outer doors close, the inner doors remain open always

I'd love to see a big shutter for the mailslots, now that I think of it!
There is one, it just almost never shuts.

You're saying that like interacting with the community is a favour and not part of the job description.
With this community, I'd be surprised if it wasn't considered as impossible to interact with...

Just sayin' 😤

ETA: I hadn't realised how many gamers appear to take any mention of a possible feature as a promise until I read some of the posts on the Star Citizen forum following one of their 'announcements' - it was equally as toxic and entitled as this forum, odd, isn't it?

And some time ago - years ago - there was a bug in either a beta or was it live version? - where those mailslot shutters would slam shut as your ship was approaching them.
They could slam shut while you were in the slot too. When questioned about their purpose one of the devs had a cheeky response: To kill players.

Used to be when they needed child actors to cry for a scene they'd give them a lollypop and then take it away again.

Apparently it works on gamers too.

The access rights system also keeps working at all times, as does the power plant console. ;)

I work in IT... it's best practice to have all mission-critical systems on some sort of alternate power; typically battery backups. Granted, those batteries only last for so long, but I don't think it's too much of a leap to believe you arrived at the settlement prior to the batteries losing power. Of course, this means we always have the most incredible timing.

The missions are only 10 minutes old at the most when we get them, and have 6-24 hours to do the job. So....., maybe the job is offered out in good time prior to the batteries failing etc. Someone in facilities management must have a good IT prompt system!

I have found the following commentary re:Station ''Blast Doors'':
''Access Corridors are narrow as a reference to the station design in Elite, as well as to accommodate an unimplemented feature: blast doors. These blast doors are almost never seen because they are locked open pending a future game update, but on rare occasions a bug can cause them to close and obstruct entry to a station or destroy a CMDR's ship. It is currently unknown what purpose the blast doors will ultimately serve or if they will ever be fully implemented.''

There are blast doors for the mail slot - although I don't know if they are still in... Somebody posted a youtube video of them closing.
That was me, and thanks for saving me from having to look it up!

(FWIW it's been seven years since I posted that video and I have not once seen this happen since. I still don't know whether it's incredibly rare, or FD disabled it.)
