Hardware & Technical So do I upgrade to Windows 10 or not?

Had no major issues with Win10 I would say go ahead and give it a go, with the upgrade you have 30 days to rollback if you are not happy.
Win7 > Win10 ...no issues at all.
Being an insider, I've been running W10 for well over a year all the way from the first Insider build. I've had no issues with ED on any of these builds. That said, clean install is the way to go if you ask me. A successful upgrade from 7 or 8 depends heavily on what drivers and software you have installed, and how "dirty" your current installation is. Most people don't have an issue, but if you have a fairly old install of 7 or 8 with lots of software and crapware installed, and perhaps a myriad of hardware, then you will run into issues.
Always do a clean install if you can. Upgrade via the Windows 10 ISO downloader tool rather than the nag popup in the corner. Choose upgrade now, and then select nothing when asked what to keep.

I've upgraded six PCs/laptops to Windows 10 in-situ. The only problem I had was with an early build - it nuked my ethernet driver due to a clash with Avast. Other than that, no issues at all.
There is the AMD / Windows 10 Super-Cruise framerate issue to bear in mind though.

I uninstalled Win10 going back to 8.1 and cancelled the update altogether on another machine. I had some quite obnoxious issues with 10 (sleep, display resolutions, networking, handling bitlocker drives were all wonky) and didn't like the UI one bit.
From a games perspective, the only real reason to run 10 would be DX12, and it will be quite some time before that becomes a hard requirement.

No issues at all. Moved from win 8 to win 10 on several machines.
No changes in the way drivers behave, etc even on my hobby PC, which has Astronomy gear and 3d printing stuff (all sorts of amateur drivers). No ill effects.
All games and controllers and drivers work as they did previously.
Keep in mind early installers could be an issue, as they might say they don't run on this OS. But I only came across this problem with one old printer when I wanted to use it on a PC for the first time. Downloaded the upgraded driver and it worked fine.

I was using Windows 8.1 on a one year old PC and decided to upgrade to Windows 10 this month. I waited until now so all fixes, drivers and patches have mostly been resolved. . And . . Amazingly everything went very smoothly indeed. And.....nothing went wrong.....Nothing ! even my X52-pro worked !

In your opinion my friend. In my opinion, there are many reasons why 10 is better than 8 and 7. There are always going to be some people who are not happy with the new stuff for whatever reason, but I think the stats prove out that the majority of people really like Windows 10 after they've upgraded. I for one couldn't go back to 8 or 7 now. I'd miss the desktop UI enhancements, the mail app, notification centre, cortana, etc. Not to mention that the rapid rise in popularity for the new universal app platform that came with 10 (for pc, tablet, phone, xbox, hololens. All served by a single app). Many of these new apps are really good.

I have an old AMD 7870, so I assume that should be OK?
Well, I'd really not want to do a clean install just because of the time involved. I'd just like to do the upgrade and carry on...
Well, is that an issue to old AMD 7870s? If so I'll hold off for a few more months?
If Nvidia yes ... If AMD then no, not for Elite anyway.
Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with Windows 10 at all, but I wouldn't until AMD sort out the crappy drivers, not if you play ED on a regular basis.

Iv got a HP Pavilion AMD A8 with Radeon A5 graphics laptop. Iv been playing Elite since it launched & upgraded from 8.1 to 10 when the update became available in July. Iv not noticed ANY issues with either Season 1 or Horizons.
Granted because of my lower end spec machine I only set Elite to Medium settings & Horizons to Medium with some Low settings & a couple turned off, I get a reasonable return from the settings & the game runs ok - I know a lot of players demand everything should be on Ultra settings to get the best out of the game, but Im not gonna spend £100's for upgrades or a new PC for a game & addon that cost me £70.
Im happy with how the game runs atm.
Back to W10 - no issues apart from it not liking an older Kodak printer & even less un-installing it!.... AND W10 is nosey & intrusive & seems to want to share every bit of info with everyone! I went through all the settings with a fine tooth comb switching off all the stuff I didn't want sharing.
