So, frame-rates since the patch, how are yours?

Big boost in Social Hub/Concourse, solid 48+ fps even in the busy bar and the Window area, I did have a performance tank after switching to my desktop for 5 minutes and returning to the same locations but a restart of game fixed it and I couldnt make it tank after by doing the same again, so not sure what that was.

On foot Planet surfaces, I'm able to play with simliar FPS as before but now with top tier quality settings (AMD FSR balanced though, havent played around with that yet), 35-46 fps. Terrain shadows appear more solid, no flickering on foot but still observed to a lesser degree on low and fast over terrain in ship, landscape morphing and texture pop/movement seems reduced as well.

I also observed the space station being drawn in front of me when I dropped out of supercruise.

Need to visit some Settlements in the day time now

Getting around 20-25% better frames, at least at the station that I'm docked at currently. From 42-45 to 55-62 in the busiest places in the Concourse.
No more drops when looking through glass also, which is nice.
1440p, basically everything on ULTRA, but DOF and Blur are off.
Ryzen 3600X, GTX 1080Ti, 32GB DDR4 3600MHz, SSDs all around, Windows 10 Pro

Tomorrow will test how things are on planet surfaces.

Shadows are acting weirdly though - in the hangar it looks like walls/ceiling are not obstructing light sources which are outside, and so the hanger is getting lit in strange patterns.
Directional shadows affect this, setting it to lower values makes it worse.

Anti-Aliasing on the planet surface is pretty solid, looks a touch bit better in the Social Hub but still lots of fuzzy edge lines there (image size reduced by half)

Concourses much better - almost always 60, used to be 30-60 depending on how much glass was about.
Flying near planet surfaces seems the same as before - around 50.
CZ up to 50-60 from 30-40 earlier, wandering around the buildings afterwards also seemed generally good. A couple of dips to 30 but nothing worse and only briefly.
Space still 60, was 60 before.

Still not quite as consistent as Horizons but a big improvement on previously for me.

If you rely on AMD FSR I would double check that it is active when you start to play around with the Graphics Presets, I found that it became "Deactivated" when Update 7 dropped and I was getting worse FPS on lower quality settings which perplexed me. After I changed to a lower Graphics preset I noticed that AMD FSR had also reverted to the lowest quality setting of "Performance" but was in fact not running at all hence the worse FPS. Setting AMD FSR to a different setting e.g. Ultra or Balanced kicked it back in, this happened to me in Update 8 when I moved from Ultra preset to High preset and my fps tanked at a settlement:

Today I had my all time negative-record near a settlement with quite some ships around: 1 FPS 🥳
That was the moment when I realized that ED cannot display FPS 0 - the screen was frozen for many seconds so that, taking rounding into account, I'd expected to see 0 FPS … but wait: 🤔 To show "1 FPS" on screen you need a new frame. 💡 Now I got it.

To be honest: Despite this extreme case the overall performance felt to be better…

Thx for the info, I'll check this AMD FSR thing.
I noticed we have a very similar rig. You can run the game 4K (Ultra ?!) you say in your signature ?? I'm amazed, me only 1080p 🤯

Edit : I mean on-foot in settlements

OK, so how would it run on a PS4 early next year/in a few months? Closest PC setup is a FX-8320 CPU + 780 GTX combo with 8GB RAM. Its almost the minimum system requirements for PC. Anybody tried it on a min spec?

My old toaster is a i5-4440 + standard 1660 card, fps is between 20-30 (wavy) on low settings + 0.75 supersampling. Yes, the game is very ugly, but still playable.
Some EDO settlements has the 20 fps, especially with a lot of moving AI personnel. GPU temp is between 45-65 C, but mostly around 50 C.

A PS4 is a bit lower on specs, so a lot of optimization job would await for Frontier in the next months...

Yeah basically AMD FSR (Balanced) allows me to run Ultra settings in 4K, prior to AMD FSR I would run it at 1440p. I now get decent 40-50 fps on majority of planet surface, unless Im looking right down at the surface to fill my view, settlements go from middle 30s to middle 40s but I tend to mainly do stealth type missions, havent tried on foot combat zones yet but they were the most taxing places and I would revert to High preset for that, which is where I was experiencing the loss of AMD FSR and would have to reselect it after.

Thx again for the tips, sounds pretty exciting, I'll go mingle with AMD FSR asap 👍👍

I found quite a nice sweet spot for Settlements at night, it seems the Shadows still are a bit of a performance draw (need to try a settlement in the day time with Shadows on Ultra to test that). So this is Ultra Settings (Ultra+ terrain) with AMD FSR set to Balanced @ 4K and Direction Shadow set to High and Spot Shadow set to Medium. I can get some pretty consistant fps in the 40s and hitting low 50s fps which I couldnt before this update. Those Settlement-wide views from the roof top with multiple NPCS in view drop to high 30s. (screenshots halved in size)

yeah the caveat is i think it gives a bigger gain with high resolutions, people running at 1080p tend to not notice much gain it seems. Plus with higher resolutions you dont notice the drop in quality as much.

Well, messing with graphics drivers probably won't sort any of it for me either as I'm seeing similar performance in Linux on my rig.

What would help me most is if SLI gets working for Odyssey. I'm not expecting the 190 FPS on Ultra in the hanger main menu like I can get with Horizons, but 33 FPS in Odyssey is... insufficient.

OMG, I just tested your AMD FSR trick. It's mind-blowing, I got 60 FPS in 4K Ultra now !!! 🤩🤩🤩

Before I could not even get 30 FPS in 4K Low. Resetting the AMD FSR mode totally changed the game. Thanks so much, you're a hero !

Nasty bug from FDev there, don't trust what says the menu, you must manually reset like londonx said 🤯

The replies are great but I'm noticing that most of them seem to be coming from people who have 3070 Ti's or higher.

The real feedback I feel most of us are looking for is from people who have cards like 1060s or 2060s. Someone with a top end 2,000 dollar GPU saying "fps is better now" is not exactly THAT helpful.
Weird, are we reading in the same reality? Browsing this topic I saw 3 - 4 1080Ti user reports (with helpful screenshots) and all reporting ~30% better. That's higher than a 2060 but its going on 4 year old card and could be gotten back in the day for ~$800

The performance is very poor after this last patch. I was used to have 40-50 fps at the settlements, but now it dropped to an average of less of 20 fps. The concourse the FPS are the same as before, and flying the ship I noticed no change at all. I'm using an 1080ti and the game also crashed two times during ground missions. My experience was very bad with this last "upgrade".
