It was sold as a DLC, not a new game.Performance is never going to be as good as Horizons. Anyway, as I said, I understand that you are disappointed but you can't expect miracles.

Yeah I had this at a settlement, I waited for a min and FPS increased significantly. Good job I was not under attack.Today I had my all time negative-record near a settlement with quite some ships around: 1 FPS
That was the moment when I realized that ED cannot display FPS 0 - the screen was frozen for many seconds so that, taking rounding into account, I'd expected to see 0 FPS … but wait:To show "1 FPS" on screen you need a new frame.
Now I got it.
To be honest: Despite this extreme case the overall performance felt to be better…
Ack!! Ack ack ack!!! (Sorry i couldn't help myself on seeing your avatar, if a mod deletes this i'll understand as it's a pretty good thread for framerate reports and comparisons)Can't speak of performance on foot, but I see improved performance in stations (from the ship or using vanity cam), on planets (flying at <100 m), doing combat (at a CNB) and several other places.
RTX 3070
Ryzen 3950x
Reverb G2
FSR Ultra quality
SteamVR res 2.4K
Other settings medium/high
Using those settings, I get 90+ fps in space, 70-90 flying on planets, 80-90 in the station and 90 fps fighting the bad guys at the CNB.
There are still a lot of micro stuttering, but general performance has increased for me.

Exactly, with multiple claims that system requirements are not expected to change much.It was sold as a DLC, not a new game.
Why would it be a miracle? What 22nd century level graphics quality gain has Odyssey to offer in exchange for such a huge performance loss in places like open space, rings etc?Performance is never going to be as good as Horizons. Anyway, as I said, I understand that you are disappointed but you can't expect miracles.
I think i've resigned myself to the idea i'll have to get a new PC to experience Odyssey properly, by that i mean the firefights and SRV travel in settlements which are too choppy as activities for me to do, but i still feel the performance drop was a bit too heavy going on from Horizons, which i can play easily on Ultra settings. They may surprise us all eventually but i'm not sure, the reports although cautiously positive from many, are still a mixed bag,and 5 months have elapsed now.Exactly, with multiple claims that system requirements are not expected to change much.
I guess I'll just wait for 6 more months to get back here and see if there are any improvements ¯\(ツ)/¯
You're probably right, but when you're in a starport or settlement, everything is happening around you in real time, if you look out the window those little spaceships out there are (i think) the same ones your friend would be seeing if he was outside. That's pretty impressive i feel, though of course i'm as disappointed in not being able to play Odyssey as i did Horizons, as anyone else. Why would it be a miracle? Because all I can see is a considerably worse quality in Odyssey, AND you even lose half of your frame rate. Great product indeed.
Odyssey brings the whole on-foot graphics to the table. I think the tricky part is that FDev had to unified the "outer-space" one (Horizons) with it.Why would it be a miracle? What would help me most is if SLI gets working for Odyssey. I'm not expecting the 190 FPS on Ultra in the hanger main menu like I can get with Horizons, but 33 FPS in Odyssey is... insufficient.
For me from the main menu hanger it's been...
Horizons ~190 FPS
Odyssey ~35 FPS
Odyssey Update 5 (or maybe it was 4) & 6 ~50 FPS – I think SLI was working for me in these updates somehow
Odyssey Update 7 & 8 ~35 FPS
...1080p Ultra, two Titan Black cards in SLI, i7-3930K @ 4.2GHz, 64GB RAM, Windows 7 Pro.
I'm getting similar performance in Manjaro Linux now that I got it running, only SLI doesn't work in Linux.
Ah, the good old days...

If the technology were a reality, and you could have thousands of players in one place at a time, it could turn into an EvE-like MMO, but in full 3d. I've just given myself excitement palpitations at the thought of it, i'm off to have a cold shower to calm down. (But that would be truly awesome)If you're in the bar and your teammates (or random cmdrs) fly in through the mail slot, you can see them and they can see you walking around through the windows. You can comment on their flying and landing too, if you're in voice chat.
