So............have you died yet?

Most of these make me glad I have my boost on a 2 button hotkey :p

I still haven't bit the dust yet, but I'm waiting for the day I see a darn type 9 too late taking up the whole docking entrance as I fly out too fast. I have already bumped into several but shields held strong (I'm full pip 100% of the time I'm at a station). NPCs need to adhere to the green and red lights :T

I think my very first death was in Beta 1 or early Beta 2 and it was a simple Sidewinder pirate. I was too green to hand it to him as I would now.

Only death in the current save (i.e. Gamma plus) was investigating a USS close to a sun and losing track of my heat. There were a bunch of friendly ships who slowed down the jump out and I panicked and hit the turbo to clear them. The extra heat from the boost pretty much cooked me then and there.

D'oh!

Came close twice today though - took an assassination job that turned out to be an Elite Anaconda. I ran (on about 60%). Later (after repairs) got jumped by a Harmless, shieldless Anaconda and didn't quite manage to keep away from his guns... escaped on 29%.

Haven't died yet and playing since Beta 1.

Don't know if its just me or the NPC's I am fighting ever since.

Actually, I found combat in ED to be relatively easy. Just 2 days ago I shot down an Anaconda with my (not even fully equipped) Eagle to get a bounty of like 136k Credits which led me to buy a brand new, shining Cobra.

In like 3 days I shot down over 45 Ships without alot difficulties. Only one encounter so far was pretty darn close and that was a Federal Dropship that started to attack me after I jumped into it's USS. That thing almost killed me in like a minute and I had to run like hell.

I hope the combat module of ED will be made harder later on, since most of the time, I didnt have much trouble fighting Pirates / Criminals (NPC's), cant say much about PvP since I avoided that for now.

So no, haven't died once yet. I saw a friend blowing up tho, but that was because he crashed into an asteroid :)

The only time I managed to die was shortly after I had made the decision to trade in my poorly-equipped Eagle for a shiny new Cobra. I was severely under-equipped, having a lot of D and E grade internals. I believe my weapon loadout was dual class 1 pulse lasers and class 1 multi-cannons. Being a noob, I didn't realize I could fit class 2 weapons on the cobra yet. Anywho, I was out, just hunting random bounties in USS's, Nav Beacons and with Interdiction. I dropped into a USS with a couple pirates, spotted another Cobra who was wanted and engaged. A second pirate, of the same faction as the one that I just fired upon, decided to engage me as well and after a bit of dogfighting, ended up bringing my shields down just as I had maneuvered behind the enemy Cobra. The Cobra tried to boost away... So I hit my boosters as well. The enemy Cobra then slammed on the breaks and I slammed right into the back of his ship and exploded.

Considering I have gone all combat since first picking this game up on release, I felt a degree of shame for allowing my first death to be such a pathetic one. I've since moved on to upgrading my Cobra and have managed to start taking on Elite Anaconda assassinations with relative ease. Though I have come close to losing my cockpit window a couple times during the first few Anaconda fights.

First time was when I tried to boost out of a space station. I hit the wall. From that day on, I have never tried to look cocky inside space stations.

I died a lot of times during the testing phase, but since I reset my save and started playing "for real" (since "no wipe" was confirmed) I am careful enough not to die yet. Emphasis on YET ;)

I haven't died since the last wipe, my sidewinder is fantastic although I did get taken down to 1% hull and no canopy by an NPC in a Cobra. I managed to get her home and bought some new paint.
I just leave my gear down in stations until I'm fully lined up on the slot.

As for players - I've only seen a handful and none of them have replied to comms let alone interacted with me in any way.

Died tons of times since Alpha and learnt my lessons! Since I found out that they was no wipe I’ve played cautious (For real) and not died YET... I play in open play all the time and way out in the Empire! :) So I don’t see that many other players which suits me down to the ground!

I've got two answers.....

In Prem Beta, beta1, beta2 I died loads. In Gamma I died a fair few times.

I Wiped save data and restarted for release day (only 1hours play before 16th) and I've not Died yet. Been bounty hunting, been to Sorbago war zones, and managed to live (I've jinxed it now though haven't I?)

My closest two calls have been
interdicted by an Anni. It must have been A1 power plant, shields, thrusters etc. It matched me move for move. It was clean, but sat on my bow so I couldn't get away, so I fired, Then all hell broke loose. 5 minutes of sheer palm sweating bedlam. It seemed like an hour. I JUST managed to get away with 25% hull, and 4 minutes of that 5 were running way.

Another was a Python in sorbago war zone, that had UBER weapons, and could match my speed. Id been in combat since reloading for about 20 mins, and had 5 kills to claim at this point, and plenty of ammo left. Then a Python came in range and started on me, so I gave him hell.... well that was my intention anyway. We had a damned good battle for about 10 mins, but I had to run. I was on 50% hull and he was on 35% but he had full shields and mine were down. He also had missiles. That's when the problems really started, because he was able to match my speed and stay at 1.6-2.3 clicks, so my whole time running away I was dogged, swapping silent running to avoid missiles, while changing direction, to cause high temps, then opening my vanes to dump heat and hopefully recharge my shields. My FSD took forever to charge while that was going on (well about 1.5 mins) but it seemed like forever.

I've still not decided whether I'm going Ironman style of play. I've played all the other Elite's that way at some point, and made Elite in the original, and in FFE (trading safe to get a panther then masses of shields and weapons so was quite easy :p) I think if a second and/or third save state comes into play, I'll have an open play Ironman CMDR. I'm determined to try not to die though. I think I'd rather loose rep and kills to run when I can.... so on that note my next upgrade is thrusters :p

Died the other night to a wanted anaconda in an asteroid belt. Got it down to 50% hull when the tables quickly turned, tried to boost away but it hit my thrusters which caused me to veer into an asteroid at speed.

This amused me greatly :D

Had a couple of embarassing deaths (in-station collisions etc...)

Amateur Tip #1: If you are on a pad at the very rear of the station DO NOT launch straight up as you'll hit the central hub that sticks out. This won't end well...

Amateur Tip #2: DO NOT retract your landing gear while inside a station. This prevents you from accidentally boosting into that Anaconda that has just entered the station slot...

'Best' death was while bounty hunting in what I thought was a 'quiet' anarchy system. I was happily popping NPCs at the local Nav Beacon, when I got another message I was being scanned, as I was getting scanned alot I ignored it and carried on shooting away at a Python. I few seconds later I am being blasted from behind, and very quickly my shields are gone before I can get a shield cell out, my hull is being rapidly chipped away. I disengage from the python and start to corkscrew away boosting when I can. My hull is still getting chipped away when I realise it's another player shooting me (hollow icon on radar); I'm at 60%ish hull by this point when I get a message my FSD is offline, and then a second later I get "Eject! Eject!". That was the end of my A-grade Cobra... that insurance hurt. Fair play to the other commander!

I definitely beat Genghis Khan though...

I died about two hours into Gamma by boosting into the inside of a station on take off (particularly embarrassing as I had almost 200 hours of flight time at this point), which is thus far, my only ship loss event since the last wipe.

I died while changing some control settings at a nav beacon in solo, thought the game was paused lol
Came back in to resume and found my ship with smoke and sparks spitting out then heard "EJECT" :(
Over 100k in bounties gone up in smoke grrr and alot of exploration data gone!!

Died twice. 1st time i got too close to a sun and cooked myself and was trapped in its gravity well. 2nd time I was mining and boosted into a road. My cargo and boost buttons are next to each other. Well, they were. Their not now...

Twice by crashing into the interior of stations. On both occasions, a certain kind of beverage had been involved...

I was also taken out by a skilful player on one occasion (at least, I like to tell myself they were skilful...). That was a fun encounter!

One other death where (surprisingly) the AI actually beat me. I felt it was a fair fight though, so it left me with more of a melancholic smile than rage ;)

Died plenty of times during beta. When Gamma launched, i started to play properly, like it was the release (which ultimately it was).

I lost a sidewinder early on (day 2 or 3 of gamma), nothing since.

Mind you, i'm playing solo and group only. Very likely, i would have lost a few more in open play.

There is no pause, you can only exit game, otherwise it carries on going around you... be wary.

I've got boost and reverse buttons next to each other. This is how a mate who was having a try during beta flew into the station wall, he went to reverse :p

Docking without clearance.
I noticed this while boosting through the letterbox. 30 seconds wasn't enough time to get out again.

Boosting through the letterbox is great fun.... I was in a hurry last night and boosted all the way into the station, dented shields by coming in at an odd angle at approx 390Kmh (i assume that's normal flight speeds)

Most player deaths will be mistake or NPC, not during PVP, so playing solo you've still got those massive margins for death and destruction.

I've been killed twice by the docking computer trying to get to the pad by driving through the side of the station.

And once by forgetting to ask for landing permission.

Close calls; had an elite anaconda take me down to ~20% before I ran, scrapped the side of the slot in my brand new Asp and took the hull down to 11%.

Boosting through the letterbox is great fun....

Just now leaving the station in my Type-9, had a Hauler come boosting through the slot (I assume it was a player as I've never seen NPCs use boost into a station), I had no time at all to react (not that there's a chance in hell of moving out the way in a type-9). I had just enough time to think "this is going to hurt" as he hits me head on and is reduced to space dust. I didn't even feel it in my type-9, it didn't even dent the shields. So if that was you - sorry, but there wasn't much I could do.
