So if i hit a planet on FSD engines. with maths!

It's a game!

There will never be ships flying above lightspeed, simple. Humanity can't even make atoms move faster than Light! If humanity ever does travel the galaxy speed will not be a factor and thats a big IF!

Saying that anything will "never" happen is ridiculously short minded.

I just wanted to add that the Frame Shift drive is both a Alcubierre drive and something else. It uses both technologies together. First when you jump to a systems star you are using the Alcubierre method of space travel. In Super cruise however you are using the Bubble mode of travel that Dcello mentioned.

Look up Rick Cavallaro and the vehicle "Blackbird" if you're interested. It's a fascinating story and a lesson in the importance of empiricism. Blackbird achieved speeds of almost 3 times that of the wind that powered it, while going dead downwind. It can do about the same going dead upwind.
I think I watched something on TV about this some time ago, was really interesting. But for my personal entertainment I prefer kitesurfing, even when I can't go downwind too fast without hurting myself, and going upwind is slow & hard work. I like the way of "flying", at least a few meters. But I'm planning to take a nice notebook with me, for the days without wind :)

opinion

IMO, the Frame Shift Drive is shifting your frame of reference using quantum physics. The way I understand it, in quantum physics, something can disappear and then reappear in another location. If you could synchronize a "frame" around a ship, you could instantaneously jump a distance. Doing this repeatedly would get you moving faster then light without physically moving faster then light.

Thoughts?

.. I had to register just to post to this thread as I've been reading it the past couple days. lol.

What you're talking about is quantum tunnelling. Kind of. See, when not observed, a particle's position is not definite--it's a probability function. And that's not just us not knowing where it is, it is literally a probability function. And that function drops off dramatically quickly, but there is a negligible but nonzero chance of the particle being a foot away from where you most expect to find it. Or a mile. Or a lightyear. And if one particle can do it, there's a nonzero chance of any number of particles doing it.

So, yes, there is a nonzero chance of a baseball or a cat or a spaceship to suddenly find itself at alpha centauri, faster than light would have taken it. But technically speaking, that would not be described as an object going from point A to point B. It would be better described as the discovery that the object was at point B the entire time.

Keep in mind the nature of these quantum events necessitate that they cannot be controlled. If we discover they can, it would mean that quantum information can be directly converted to classical information. And all of modern physics would be thrown out the window.

you mean narrow-minded?

Even so.... I'm right!

Considering how little we know about life, the universe and everything "never" is a rather silly bet to put your money on. History has had many nay sayers.

"Its a game!" shouldn't stop us from having some fun speculating on things. That's how ideas are born. Good/bad, plausible/ridicules. Never know what positive consequence comes from a bonkers idea.

All it takes is one talented kid hooked on an idea, at the right time... and place.... and bam! we have hover boards... form there it's just short jump to interstellar space travel :D
....I want my hover board tho...

....

Also its 42. Answer to Life, universe and everything is 42... obviously..
