So, is this game just too stupid?

I just expect in game mechanics to work. If a simple auto-launch system screws up within my first 5 launches, what other stupidity can I expect from the game? This is not a newly released game, bugs like that shouldn't still be around. And if it's not a bug, but by design, then I'm guessing this is not the game for me. Programmed stupidity is worse than bugs, imho.

TY all for your responses. Time to go
Most of the time they do work perfectly fine. But if it looks like it isn't, you need to take control of the situation yourself, which is easy to do. Don't just watch as the timer clocks down and die. If you're in a queue and the auto pilot isn't moving you, do it yourself. The auto pilot isn't infallible.

Like all noobs (me2 I was one once) use. Auto Dock sc assist etc which Is OK.
Just be ready to take control when it don't work. Never leave unattended.
When landing somewhere dismiss ship.
Bring limpets.
Engineer your ship.
But above all... be ready.!
And sell those noob modules put hull reinforcements or module reinforcements in.
More bang for your buck

If you stay playing ED, and eventually decide to visit Colonia, OP...

Don't visit Jaques with automatic land / launch - but sit around for a while and enjoy the silly number of tourist ships that the gunners in the station help along their way ;)

Both of the assists are 'interesting' and I have lost ships by leaving the computer to do the job because RL demands took priority (I have dogs with peanut bladders), it happens and the only thing left to do, when it does, is cuss a bit, chuckle, then do it all again!

It's another bug that never has been addressed or probably even acknowledged. The more CMDRs, the more npc traffic, which never clears. Even if you are solo/PG, if there's a ton of people there in open, you get a dense cloud of npc ships. The longer players stay on the station, the worse it gets.

Even manual landing will involve risky manoeuvrers, cutting npcs off and the works.

But judging from most of the replies here, it is the player at fault yet again, for expecting the game to work :p

Much of the time, the game QoL additions do just work... The DC / ADC is a 'special' case that at time can be vexing :ROFLMAO:

I'm also under the impression that the ADC hates Imperial ships... Even my Courier gets a scrape along the metalwork on occasion!

Yeah, that's standard. It can't deal with the wide wings, and in the case of the Cutter, with the actual size. The DC was always a menace to society.

But what I mean is that if FD introduces an auto-launch, maybe they should ascertain it will get you out of the station alive :D The computer should not run off the same braindead AI as the npc ships, and actually go out the door.

I know it might not be the highest priority, but if you offer the players this amenity, you should maybe take into account, that not all have 1000+ hours in this game, and losing a ship might be a bit more problematic then just a rebuy.

There are two issues here:

1. If FDev provide an auto-launch function it should definitely work.

2. lol auto-launch
The only issues I've ever remembered having with autolaunch/dock is that the T9 typically scrapes the side/top/bottom, though it does "seem" better in Odyssey, or maybe its just the shield on my ship make it less of an impact.

Personally I've never had an issue with auto-launch. I've literally never used it, not once :D

I have a docking computer on my T-9 just for convenience, it's never taken any shield or hull damage. Then again, I use it simply for convenience and fly the ship towards the slot on manual before throttling back just to save me having to actually fly the space-cow to my pad.

If you don't like bugs, you should try Star Citizen.

:D

Nice whataboutism... Though now is really not a good time to be using SC as a counterpoint... It might be a good idea to put that one aside considering their recent pace of actual development (rather than usual blue sky Chris Roberts pie in the sky wishy-washy)... and the remarkable build quality of Orison landing zone WITHIN the outer atmospheric layers of the gas giant planet called Crusader...

Instead (IMHO) since this is the game we are all here for, let's just put other games aside and focus on the issues people are having with ED and try to eke the best we can from this game. I want the best for ED(O) and I want it to last another decade.

But if you do want to compare with SC: Armstrong Moment... Quack. (Cheers Yamiks for etching that into my frikkin' brain)

Mine regularly engages in Slot Sumo...

At least Star Citezen has good graphics....

yes, because as we know, good graphics are integral to a game's success...
