So lets get this straight.. Our commander names are no longer unique?

Well firstly having paid a company for something one generally expects to recieve things as agreed when money changes hands. YOu seem to be suggesting that makes me have a sense of entitlement.

Secondly, Frontier chose to release the game on the xbox and chose to share the galaxy. They also chose to keep this situation quiet.

You know, Frontier has a history of shafting those who backed the project. There is a list of things that haven't been delieverd or renaged upon, this is another, and yet here you are defending them.

Is it really too much to ask for things we paid for to be honoured? All you are doing is excusing crappy, shady dishonest behaviour. Its not me who has gone back on his word here, and frankly if you have a problem with that I haven't got the time of day for you.

But you have your selected name in the PC game, and got it. Are you now saying that you own that name and have some special entitlement to it and all it's variants? Like some kind of trade mark?

So is my forum handle encroaching on yours?

Is it destroying your experience of anonymous internet ranting because my drivel may be somehow confused with yours, or even worse vice versa?

I really think you have lost the plot.

Xbox version didn't exist then.

If you want my opinion, you should have considered the possibility of the game expanding if it were successful, and what that would mean for names.

Such expansion would likely mean implications for names. That's just how the console networks work. They insist that their customers get first choice in names.

Maker forbid the storm that would erupt if this game does a War Thunder & consoles start to instance with PC.

Apologies for shouting.

And apologies for shouting back my friend, it was for effect :)
No one can see what is going to happen in the future, arguably FD should have considered the xbox version and not offered or reworded the option in the kickstarter, knowing that they will produce an xbox / play station version.
The main issues I can see are first finder and impersonation, both of which could be solved by giving xbox players & pc/mac players a prefix as described by mephane.

The most galling thing is that it is yet another erosion of the kickstarter backers trust and goodwill.

They could control other things though. For example, instead of CMDR, the title could be something else, so on discovered-by tags and any screenshot or video you would immediately see what platform it is from without having to resort "(Xbox)" suffixes and such.

Yes, that they could. I agree. Why they don't, I don't know.

The only theory that comes to mind is that on Xbox, CMDR is already added before the player's GT. Maybe Microsoft says this is all FD are allowed to do, so people can see what's from the game, and what words are the GT.

Yes, Microsoft treats its users like idiots, unfortunately. That being said, and I might get some flak for saying this... Just visit an Xbox game hub. The illiteracy & short-sightedness of the general, non-forum Xbox players is well... Painful.

So I can kinda' understand Microsoft's policies. Some users are not very bright, putting it kindly.

Perhaps a "XCMDR" could have been used for Xbox players, perhaps, but the words beyond XCMDR will still be beyond FD's control. The potential for some kind of duplicate naming will always exist, even for the reserved names.

Like I said before, Microsoft demands its users get first choice in names.

OOOOOOHHHH CLONE FIGHT! -Cosmos- v.s. Cosmos: who's the real one? Who will prevail and who will fall? Place your bets! (no guarantee we can identify the 'correct' one, when all is said and done)

On another note, I'd like to meet myself. I've always wondered if I'd be my own best friend or want to kill myself... them... damn this is confusing.

Don't confuse being able to start the game with the name of your choice with being the only one ever to use that same name. It didn't say anything about exclusivity did it?

You got to choose your name. Rejoice! The rest of us had to choose too but sadly were left with a sorely limited supply of names after people like you took all the good ones. ;)

Sorry 'bout that :)

Kickstarter is long gone. Get over it. You are no longer a special snowflake. Frontier is not beholden to you.

Dragging this Kickstarter stuff out for years on end.

I appreciate that the game has to evolve as time and conditions go on however we're talking about something that is fundamental to the elite legacy and a cornerstone of the ks campaign - being a uniquely named entity within the galaxy. I'd be really upset if I'd paid £1000's for a starsystem named after me only to find someone else has stolen the legacy.

my question: why does it matter? nothing has happened yet, and the more you talk about it, the more likely it is to happen. I'm an Xbox player and I don't care about PC players taking my name. then again, none of you know what my CMDR name is.
