So lets get this straight.. Our commander names are no longer unique?

Wow... Just, wow...

Guys, get over it. FD can't control Xbox names.

Microsoft insists that Live account names are used in games on the Xbox platform for several reasons, chief of which is to be able to quickly identify cheaters, ToS breachers, etc.

That's just life. Sometimes the guy with the deeper pockets, in this case Microsoft, gets the only say in this matter.

Yes, that does mean you'll have to accept that there might be an Xbox account using the same name as you, and an even smaller chance that account plays Elite on Xbox.

There is literally nothing you can do about it.

Well, they can complain about it and falsely blame FD. It won't change anything but it might make them feel better?

;)

Some of them can register a fake xbox account to reserve their name if it's not already taken. Power to the people!

But, sadly, some can't even do that and they must live with the eternal shame that, maybe, someone none of us will ever see is bombing about with their name.

I think we should set up a doppelgangers anonymous group so doppelgangers can have a place to express their feelings to each other.

"Hi, I'm Bob and I'm not unique."

"Hi Bob(s)!"

The thing is, I think a lot of people are severely... I mean severely overestimating how many people play Elite on Xbox One in comparison to how many gamertags there are in the world. Sure, someone might have their gamertag the same as your CMDR name, but there's a very very high (probably close to 90%) chance that said person doesn't play Elite.

Random Example: PC ObsidianAnt plays Elite. Xbox ObsidianAnt only ever plays FIFA and can't stand sci-fi.

I know. The "maybe" in my post could be stressed to "tiny possibility".

It's a non issue that has caused zero problems since xbox went live. But let's not allow common sense to get in the way of a good old FD bashing thread.

I think it would be pretty cool if someone on Xbox managed to get the name CMDR Artigan Lamarr, and then impersonated me in griefing videos to ruin my reputation.

That might actually make me famous.

As it is right now, hardly anyone knows who I am.

:p

So I need to correct my post from last night after asking for clarification from FD.

Apparently, my memory that first discovered tags were tagged or some way different between Xbox an PC was not correct (at least not for our player visibility).

Seems like there is currently no way for the player themselves to tell the difference, but the discovery is tagged on the back-end database, so if they wanted to change this, they could do so, and if there was a dispute about who really discovered a system, FD support could tell the player which one it was.

Edit: I have edited my post from last night to correct what I said previously.

When the Xbox community found out in June 2015 that PC players have explored a fair amount of the galaxy already, and some may possibly have identical usernames, we collectively said...

"Oh."

When the PC community found out, they collectively said...

... 19 pages later....

Cool. Still don't really care if there's an Ydiss playing XBOX though ;)

Live and let live, I say.

Which is precisely why I (as a PC player) was gobsmacked when I found out that we would have to share our galaxy with console players.
