So this is how new players are greeted?

This scenario must be handled through a proper punishment system (even in EvE), not hand of God intervention

EvE has "kill-rights" for exactly that. And if you can't exact revenge yourself (too new/fight averse), you can sell or give away the kill-rights to anyone. Then, when someone "activates" the kill-right on the "bad guy", everyone in system can legally shoot the bad guy.

This isn't EvE…lets try not to let it become EvE.

Spawned in in my new Sidewinder, fresh from the factory and started adventuring. At my fourth hour of playing, some scumbag in a big ass spaceship, blew me to pieces inside a spacestation...

You're right, but you cant hope to control or significantly influence the game's community from the forum, the majority of players, especially those less likely to be sociable, will never visit the forum.

So its just something we have to live with, as in all other multiplayer games.

ON the plus side the way you died won't be too much of a problem in the future, its simply a bug/missing feature that people can get away with attacking you inside the station, in the future that would almost certainly mean their destruction as the station defences turn on them.

I'm not saying this is the case,But...It may not have even been a player or NPC.
Only today I was coming out of Chango, must have hit the wrong button and went into silent mode,at the time I didn't realise as I was trying not to scrape the sides of the letter box (I'm rather new too) ...anyway to cut a long story short, the ship exploded. And I have exploded in a variety of different ways previously,in fact, the only thing to not kill me yet,is a player.

The thing is,when youre new you don't always suss out straight away what has happened,it comes with experience and quite often the same thing happening again to point you in the right direction as to who the culprit was...Yourself (in my case)

Befriend some mature players, you' ll end up in the same instances as them.
Other then that people who grief will accumulate bounties which will make them hunted and only welcome in Anarchy systems.
The system purges itself

And that pewed me off big time. I represented no threat and no target value for him - I was simply an easy kill...

Now - before everybody gets worked up on game mechanics etc - stop up and think: is this really how we should greet new players?

EVE Online suffers severely of the lack of fresh blood in the playerbase, due to exact this problem: old time players having a scavenger party on green rookies. If we are to make Elite the most awesome gaming experience for all parties, we must avoid slaying, what clearly is a rookie player.

The loudmouths will probaly claim, that a kill is a kill. I beg to differ...

You got to over three hours without being killed? Lucky you! Ample time to learn the skills.

Joking aside, how many hours should it be before the universe becomes dangerous for new players?

This is why I believe that Anti-PKer groups are going to play an important role and be a pillar in Elite:Dangerous :)

Oh my, you got killed in a game?
Here, have a tissue.

you sure you have some 'unspoiled' ones left?

Can I just make a suggestion?

As the OP put this up as their first post and then went straight offline, can we wait and see if he is actually going to come back and make some response before we turn this into another massive thread that has been talked through many times before.

No I guess we can't. The OP signed up today, made one post and then went straight offline. Since then it's turned into yet another PvP discussion that's being played out in so many other threads. Just wait and see if he comes back online and let him answer the posts that are here.

Megablam firstly welcome to the forums! And secondly, sorry to hear of your bad first impressions of the game, as stated above yes there are some idiots around but (as with life in general) there are more nice people than nasty people so hopefully you will have fun times ahead :D

Please add me to your friends list (Pablo72) , I'm one of the nice guys :)

He'll be back online but not to read these replies. He'll be back to make another rant.

Wise words.

It's funny how people want the 'kill anyone anywhere' mechanic of EVE, but without any of the punishments. Just saying.

Not sure if this was pointed at me, but one thing I have been very adamant about on these forums is my support for the consequences for unlawful acts detailed in the DDF Archive.

Gebuz... Away from the forum for a few, and... Wauw.
To simplify: The aim with my initial post was not to whine about being smashed by an old timer ([stuff] happens and this is Beta). My aim was a general concern, that we must observe a descent behaviour towards new players.

Although new to this edition, I am an old time Elite player, so getting the hang of the ropes within this edition, wasn't that hard. And I have been playing MMO's for more years, than I care to count, so he was not the first scumbag, I've encountered (probaly not the last either).

So no tears, no "I quit" crap here - was just annoyed with the buggar, when I wrote my initial post.

And FYI: Yes, it was a player, who whacked me. The game told me so, when I entered the menu. And yes, I have the commanders handle carved into my dashboard on my new Sidewinder, no, you may not know his name (this is personal:D), yes, it was an Anarchy planet, and no, the spacestation did not ice the hoodlem (it was in LS 98-132).

Hope this clarifies things a bit - thanks for all the positive feedback (both here an via PM). The rest of you hardballers: see you in my sights ;)

One thing ;) you may want to be careful about masked swearing in your posts, the mods don't really like it here :)

If it was in Freeport and the station definitely didn't destroy his ship after he killed you then you should definitely raise a ticket for it, as Michael suggested this should have been fixed.

Well, I can't say for sure, as I was sent to the insurance screen right after.
Thanks for the heads up about language ;)
