Discussion So what's happening with Fdev fixing the API , this time ?

Manually entering influence data into spreadsheets/databases, same with commodity prices... is not a challenge. It's a nuisance. It is more work and less game. Repetitive, non-challenging and boring.

I love the API and third party tools and hope they will work again soon.

Trading has become less profitable for me, since I usually rely on EDDB.io in order to find good routes. I hope FD fixes this issue soon, as tools make trading a much easier task. I'm currently using the in-game tools for finding trade routes but the lack of information on them is troubling.

I haven't done any trading since the cAPI broke. I made an attempt to find a good delivery route for one of the CG's but it was so painful. Trying to find goods manually using the ingame map/info is incredibly painful. So in the end I moved on and just did passenger runs which are more lucrative anyway at this time.

I hope Frontier understands that the cAPI and 3rd party tools enrich the gameplay experience. It also makes Elite a hell of a lot more fun for those that want to do more than just pew pew in the game. EVE Online is a good example of a game with a well-supported API and how the 3rd party tools add to and enhance that game.

Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Perhaps it was intentionally vague in order to present a challenge to overcome? That is kind of the point of a game you know ;)
Nice try but no. Intentionally omitting the tools necessary to navigate the functions of your own game is not good game design for the type of game that ED is. That kind of thing works for games like Absolver, Dark Souls, Hellblade: Sinua's Sacrifice, Osiris: New Dawn and Ark: Survival Evolved. Basically most games in the survival genre make use of this design decision. ED is not a survival game though nor was it ever intended to be one.

Don't know about anybody else but I can always fall back on drawing pictures in the sand and making long distance phone calls via smoke signals. We'll need to set up an agreed upon area to bury our poop though, can't have it just being all over the place! :D

Only humans have an inbuilt waste disposal unit. :)
The only time a Banana makes a mess is when some clumsy human, not watching where they are walking, squishes one of the non-sentient species.

Anyway, all I'm saying is while the thing is down, why not take a look at how it works and see how it goes. You don't need spreadsheets either.

The devs are working on it. Said it is at the highest priority as of the 29th. Please stop assuming Fdev doesn't care about a fix. Like the saying goes:

99 little bugs in the code
99 little bugs in the code
You take one down, patch it around
127 little bugs in the code.

Why is it broken..:O..... 'the fate of glass is to break' ....seems to be the fate of Frontier API too, for whenever there's an update..[where is it].....Why is it broken ?

Such is life with working with APIs. But I deal with this everyday for many other products, so I guess I just expect it. :p

It's fairly obvious that Fdev are not keen on these apps which quite frankly show up the total inadequacy of the game.
You won't find it getting fixed anytime soon.

Granted, the game has flaws but if it did all of these things, what would the 3rd guys do with their tools?
Carry on I suppose? Maybe not continue volunteering their time and effort as actively as they do now but many of the 3rd party tools would still be just as useful, fun and helpful to use when outside of the game.

I don't understand why some people shun the use of third party tools with Elite, as if not using them is some sort of virtue. Just because it's possible to do math in your head does not mean we should do away with all calculators. These tools help Elite in areas that are working 'fine' so they can work great instead.

Makes me laugh how some fool thinks this is intentionally vague, when ed first came out there was a companion application provided, then in their infinite wisdom FD pulled support for it thus leaving a space for 3rd party apps to fill this void, now FD has screwed the spi and we are back to the Stone Age, the original elite from 1981 had more detailed information that this iteration.

Based on the sticky at the top of this forum ("Changes to Companion API - 2.4 Open Beta") my assumption is Frontier does want to support the API system. They seemed fairly enthusiastic about adding more data scraping to the API for the 2.4 open beta. It would be nice if FD gave us some sort of meaningful update as to why the API is currently broken and what their timeline is to fix it.

True, Third Party Apps their use, tweaking them, keeps me interested in ED, Third Party Apps add much needed 'substance' to the game.

why have they not realised that the companion applications have always been needed as market data that is acquired via the galaxy map is incredibly vague.

What Frontier says about API apps support, then does and doesn't do, gives most an impression Frontier is reluctantly supporting Third Party Apps using their API.
Given the 2.4 Patch was released, with the API broken , ED was in an unplayable state for many players, using Third Party Apps, so why was 2.4 dropped with the API broken ?.

Is it because Frontier don't see their API and Third Party Apps use as important or necessary for your game-play

If I was a Third Party App Dev, and user, I would be a bit worried, it's not the first time, Third Party Apps Dev's and Players, been left wondering as to when a 'fix' is in coming.

Maybe another "strike" is in order.... Last time, it got a little bit of media attention, might be the kick needed to get some of these fixes out.

I think if you read what FD posted after the last one, the next strike will see the API shut down by FD. Then say goodbye to all non-official apps.
