Discussion So what's happening with Fdev fixing the API , this time ?

Perhaps it was intentionally vague in order to present a challenge to overcome? That is kind of the point of a game you know ;)

Not sure about that.

As I said before, if the only trick FDev has is to make everything a "needle in a haystack" then they really need to get themselves some new tricks.

Also, making things "vague" is one thing but even a real Skinner Box is consistent in it's test/reward conditions.
Fundamentally, it's intended to teach the subject that if they do one thing they get one result and if they do a different thing they get a different result.
If you set up a Skinner Box so that pushing a series of buttons causes a different result each time, the subject can't learn anything.

The "point" of ED (if there is one) is that players are supposed to learn which systems are good sources of various things.
When the dev's are, seemingly, just randomly jumbling things up in an apparent attempt to negate the usefulness of 3rd-party app's, they're just randomizing their "skinner box".

Yeah well if they dont fix it quickly their population of traders is going to drop of sharply, tbh they ought to have such tools built into the game, just like real 3rd party tools it should rely on people submitting data to the tool, to get fresh info to add a touch of "distance", but there should be an in-game/out of game tools available for players in game built in, they cant be bothered so have relied on 3rd party tools to provide support, but if they dont provide good support for 3rd party tools they're going to bleed players old and new, and its going to be a little difficult to further develop the game with a large segment of the playerbase missing specially come expansion pay day.

Trading just isnt sensibly possible without 3rd party tools, finding trade routes takes way to long, and visiting random stations (especially in trading ships which arrent exactly normally ideal for exploring stations) screenying inventory and comparing to other screenies is not my idea of interesting gameplay, its bad game design no and ifs or butts, elite is supposed to be a space simulator not a spreadsheet with graphics attached like Eve.

One could argue they didnt have time to develop the tool and were focusing on new features so allowed 3rd party tools to fill the gaps in their game design, which the devs of those apps have done, which is fine as long they place top priority on keeping the API which allows them to function working, without it a large part of the core trading feature is practically inaccessible, which is more important to fix then any new features.

Get it fixed frontier and do it within a few days at most.

I am running ED 2.4.0.2 and EDMC 2.4.3.0, login to Frontier cAPI is still rejected with invalid credentials. Can someone else confirm this?

well someone got it working

I think if you read what FD posted after the last one, the next strike will see the API shut down by FD. Then say goodbye to all non-official apps.

I really hope that FD would not be that short sighted. If they did that, they could say good buy to a good chunk of their players. There was a lot of outrage in Alpha/Beta when they pulled support of the trading programs then and population plummeted for a while.

Patch notes this morning claim the cAPI is fixed... not holding my breath though...

(sorry for negativity, I used to be very defensive of FD, but lately it seems they have decided to oppose their community which makes me very sad)

I can connect now with EDMC and edce-client, but no market data is returned. According to the 2.4 patch notes there have been changes to the API, so I guess the apps need to be updated.

E D Market Connector 2.4.3.0 appears to be the only one working atm, I'm guessing because calls to the Companion API /profile no longer return commodities, you have to call /market to get those. The result from /market doesn't seem to include the system name, just the station name, so now you have to make two calls to get the complete market info ?

Seems odd that /market doesn't include the system name, though I only had a glance at it, could be wrong.

[edit] Actually not just EDMC it appears

Got it kind of working here with the 2.4.3 pre-release of EDMC but a lot of functionality looks to be impaired still, and I cannot vouch for the data quality. In other words, classic FDev SNAFUBAR.

I cannot express how disappointed I am.

Been trying since the API patch update dropped and as of a minute ago, still NO API connection with EDDI or EDMC

Ive logged into the game, logged out, Logged into Frontiers Web site.

Uninstalled EDMC with Revo, keys folders removed.

Re-installed EDMC, entered My ID, entered the code sent, and nothing works, just get 'Error Invalid Credentials'

It's working for me now since 2.4.02. EDMC, EDDI and TCE are all connecting to API - just EDDiscovery that is still saying "API temporarily disabled"

EDMC working for me now with this latest patch. I just visited a station that was 10 days out of date and it did update on EDDB.IO once I docked.

I don't understand why some people shun the use of third party tools with Elite, as if not using them is some sort of virtue. Just because it's possible to do math in your head does not mean we should do away with all calculators. These tools help Elite in areas that are working 'fine' so they can work great instead.

Yeah, without those third party tools, I think I might have quit this game long ago, I get the steep learning curve, but the lack of in game information is atrocious, especially information pertaining to the bubble, this is an area that should have detailed information, markets, shipyards, all that kind of thing, it's the kind of thing I would have expected to see on the Galnet board for example.
