So... whats your motivation to go on ?

I am just wondering... haha
.
As we all ? know the basis of the game is awesome, the flying is great, the galaxy is epic,
there are some nice ships and also a few missions you can do without totally wasting your time ;-)
.
But after starting very much from the beginning I am just getting very bored.
There is no pvp ( other than shooting clean people who are 99% running away ) and no
interaction with other pilots than chatting a bit ( which is quite amusing, but also no breakthrough )
and so thats it ?
.
I finished my viper weeks ago, and switched yesterday to the cobra ( which I hate a lot due to the impossible mount
of the outer weapons, I dont wanna use gimballed or turrets but with fixed weapons it's not possible to use 50%
of your weapon slots if your nearer than lets say 500 ? ) but afterwards there is nothing to gain for me...
.
Flying a python would be fun, but I will quite sure not grind the next weeks again to buy a python for... nothing ?
.
So I am afraid that the best will be to make a break for a few weeks
or months and have a look at the game when there is anything
usefull to do...
.
Or what do the other players do which played already a lot ?
.
And please dont missunderstand me, its no qq thread, I already played at least 50 hours shot nearly 700 targets...
so anyway the game was quite some fun, but from now on there are no goals to accomplish.
.
The only thing I wanted to finish was getting entrance to alioth, but the last 2
days not one rank progression mission showed up, so I will also put this on hold.
.
Hoping for some motivation :D
Have a nice day,
kind regards !

Go exploring, guarantee you will have at least 2 "wow" moments every session

Best thing to do is as you say...take a break for a little while rather than burn out.

I've not played for 2 weeks after feeling the same as yourself, and I'm again excited about the game again.

The problems you suggest are real, FD knows it -they described what we have as a 'framework'- and are working to create a beautiful game on the foundation.

personally I find it difficult to describe in any other terms than "its Elite". Virtually noting in game is tedious for me, the whole thing recaptures everything I played as a kid then adds great stonking bells on it. Theres no one thing that makes me come back, the pace, the roles everything, its just a really great game for me.

Yes . exactly

Cheers Cmdr's

I sympathise with a lot of what you wrote and feel pretty similar.

I recently gained entrance to Alioth though and there weren't any rank progression missions. Just did more Alioth Independent missions and eventually became allied (with Alioth Independent, not the Alliance) allowing me to select the "making friends and going places mission". Or is that what you were referring to when you said the rank progression missions weren't showing up?

To get entry to Alioth you need to get rep not rank with Alioth Independent faction

you do this by doing their missions in the adjacent systems and when allied you will be given a mission that awards you entry permit

As for what else to do, I was just returning to my home system, saw a player around the nav beacon who then dropped out of SC. I targeted his low energy wake and then dropped out of SC myself into his instance just out of interest

he was clearly undertaking a mission of sorts against traders but his opponents happened to be in my allied faction so I duly took it upon myself to deliver accelerated plasma into his behind, shocked him a bit I think particularly as people tend to think these mission instances are their own little world :)

He scooted and I assume I prevented my allied faction controlling influence in the system from being dented

it could have easily been pirates and I'd have joined him in combat against them etc etc

Life in E: D is what you make of it

I'm a trader/explorer with some bounty hunting on the side.
Now out exploring and found a nebula that wassent showing on the map.
So pretty exiting for me :)
When i get back ( in one piece ofc ) i can buy an Asp.

Good times :p

ps: Maybe the new ship wil be in, when i get back.

@Alex : thats not really true or ? I already explored for at least 10 hours all at all, have seen 330 systems and used the big 1,5 mio scanner.
Its a blast for 1-2 hours but then it is repeating and repeating again...
.
And it has no gain or use... no big money income ( I wouldnt need anyway :D ) only the rank progression.
.
@ Craib : Thanks I already read that thread... some wise words, but als words which made me think about quitting for a
while. Sure I knew that I wont like the cobra, she is stronger and will increase your money income but the impossibility to
go fixed ( maybe someone can, but I think it is not possible ? ) makes it quite boring for me...
.
I will give the cobra another try today, but I think I will go back to my viper with 3 fixed beams and one plasma accelerator... just
switched to the cobra because I thought it would be great to use 2 accelerators and 2 beams.... but due to the mounts its quite useless.
I hope there will be the possiblity to buy a high end viper with class 4 slots... the freakin Power is my only problem with the viper...
.
I think the best thing you could add very easy to this game would be pvp areas, like wormeholes ;-)
In every big system there is a jump place and if you go there all players who do pvp are brought toghter.
For every kill you get for ex. 15k and for every shot you loose sthg like 30-50% of the possible win.
.
That would make the game more fun and you could do real pilot training, shooting another 700 npcs... I dont know
if I can take that, also because I know it would be way more effecient to do it with the cobra fully gimbaled... and I
hate that :D

I enjoy the game for what it is and I don't try to turn it into a PvP shooter.

What a useless comment, so please Sir, explain what is this game ?

Credits.

Simple as that.

I want to be rich. I want all the ships and they will be all pimped out. They will be residing in my garage to play with as I see fit/as missions dictate.

Credits make the ED universe go round. There is no end-game: Credit scooping is neverending.

It's like I've said in other threads, Elite has a very solid "foundation" to build off if, so that's why I'm sticking around. So many games in this day and age are all about the "WOW" factor, with no underlying framework. You play once and toss it aside.

The content is thin in Elite now, but the base is there to build on. I'm sure it'll go in fun directions.

I think this is underlying message with the game in its current state; it's a fabulous framework tha needs fleshed out. From watching the development over the past 12 months I'm confident that fleshing out will happen pretty quickly. I sympathise with the OP and am happy that in my case, I only get to play at weekends as I work away during the week. So for me, I get to spend 4 nights wondering what I'm going to get up to in the other 3 and burning out ain't going to happen any time soon.

BUT I am lamenting the lack of teaming ability, it's the one bit that nags as I really want to get up to some coop shennanigans. However I discovered last night that can you can pirate the pirates - I snagged 40k of loot from an NPC cobra that decided he wanted what I had and so now I have my objective for tonight; USS exploring in an anarchy system, see if I can't find some more silly pirates :) So even at around 60-80 hours (been here since standard beta) in I'm still finding new stuff and I haven't even gone exploring yet (which is on the cards).

Anyway, am rambling now, but will close by asking this of the OP - what could FD add that would make you come back from your hiatus?

The fact that the flight model feels good and that it's fun to pew pew in space.

You're so right :D But after many hours it looses the flash... especially because 99% of the enmys are npcs.
But I think I will maybe give piracy a try...
.
.
@EddyRockSteady : right, but if you wanna do so, you have to be a trader, which bores me way more than shooting another 700 npcs :D
no offense though, if you like it have fun and get rich rich rich... I prefer the Han Solo feeling :D Why is this thing not jumping...

@Babelfish : in which combat zones have you fought other players ? I was in bernards star a while ( I think the conflict is over now ) and
shot about 50 enemys there, in this time I met only 2 real players ( althouth its quite full around sol ) and they have been on my side... haha :(:(:( :D

He's 100% correct, at no point was ED marketed as a PVP space shooter. You might as well complain about there not being enough PVP in The Sims.

And on top of that, have you as suggested been to war zones from Galnet? There's PVP there.

Hey Innigo,

thanks for the reply, I think its really easy to think about things which could be addedm but I also have understanding
that many of these things may sound easy from the outside, but are much work to implement in the code without
creating problems.

-First as you said team ability with bigger enemys, quests which have more than one but 5 or 10 steps only possible with 2-3-4 players
-PVP Areas or any possibility to fight pvp without beeing a pirate
-More Missions which are usefull to do, why should anyone do a 2k hauling mission after the first 2 hours of playing
-More Ships ( for me the Viper is the End... so there is no big motivation to make money after 1,5 weeks )
-More Weapons or the possibilty to improve your ship even more ( still crying because of my power shortage at the viper )
-More Story and the possibility to take part in it ( for ex. there is a rebellion in Sanna, but players reported there is nothing to do but a std conflict zone, there should be a event on date xy time xy with a big fight )
-Support for the Community to take part in the game ( I think there are many people who would love to support story writers, or do special events like in system xy are 20 pirates to be catched for a big reward, but the pirates are also real players playing together in this event )
-Better Balance between bounty hunting and trading ( atm I know if I want to buy a anaconda or python it is useless to do bounty hunting as I can earn 3-6 times the money per hour with a lakoon 6 )
-etc. etc.

But I really believe and hope that this stuff is coming in the next months, I am just afraid many will
leave which started now due to missing motivation or targets... and a galaxy this big needs at least,
dont know 10k - 30k players ?
