So where do RP bad guys stand?

So given the issues with the Slavers. I would like to know where FDEV stand on "nicer" bad guys stuff. I am a RP pirate who does the following PvP Piracy, Kidnapping players and holding for ransom and recently I did a video (on my youtube same as my GT) as we moved into Pirate Protection Insurance (PPI) now obviously I would like to clarify if any of these contradict the new rules of conduct I did check before and these all seemed okay the way we were running them. I am a Member of the DMPS a Xbox pirate faction who always look for new ways to be RP criminals bad guys but not "BAD GUYS." we are in it for the emergent gameplay.

So please let me know if the following overstep so we can adjust or stop doing them before we get banned.
1, PvP Piracy I rob players in open messaging beforehand offering a 24 hour pass if they comply, if they do not it is hatch breakers away? (I would hope this is still seen as okay game play).
2, Kidnapping a player and holding them for a ransom. We have kidnapped many CMDR's (they have to be willing to RP as of course they could easily log out if they did not want to play victim). We then ask the community to pay a ransom or we kill the hostage. Normally someone nice pays us our Lavin Brandy or other cargo demands.
3, PPI insurance which we just launched we are asking player groups to pay us to not BGS them. The video on my channel explains we have done this to one player group and in the process of doing it to a 2nd. For RP reasons and to keep it light and fun we only ask for a small amount. We ask for 250 million upfront or more if we turn up (around 500 Million) but of course we negotiate..it is all about the RP fun. We would not do this to small squadrons as would only target those who can clearly afford it.

Hi Oddball,

On these forums, where the consensus is there should be no PVP unless it's "consensual", they'll scream for you to be drawn & quartered. LoL

I just posted in the thread discussing slavery:

What the 'slavers' did was wrong but Elite is better having this sort of player interaction. Any policing action should be conducted via the players at large rather than a ban by F-Dev.

Are they so scared of the bad press "Slavery"? This has gotta be a higher-level management knee jerk response by virtue of the fact they already legitimized the gameplay by adding a Galnet article specifically warning CMDRs of such practices. Perhaps they should be reminded that any player can buy and sell "Imperial Slaves" which is a long standing, legitimate in-game mechanic. The more F-Dev gets involved the less Elite or Dangerous their game becomes.

I don't think in-game piracy, especially when using the in-game tools, can be seen as a breach of TOS. So item 1 would have to be okay. As for 2 & 3? Emergent gameplay is a big part of Elite - I've been playing nearly 4 years and wouldn't still be playing if it wasn't for interesting conflict between players. An example: BGS wars.... There are plenty of reasons for BGS / PVP wars but the last one I joined in earnest was against a squad that had members who were more and more seen a a bully squad. When one of its members specifically stated members who left a squad that didn't want to get involved in the war effort couldn't return to their squads later, with the threat of retaliation against the target squad's own BGS, I entered the war. This isn't getting angry - this is fun! The game is better for crazy player interactions that play out between the players. F-Dev should not get involved.

This is horrible and awesome! I hope FD doesn't consider this "bad". I am torn on the Slave Carrier thing because I actually think it's brilliant and the only emergent gameplay of note to come around in a long while. At the same time, I get that the issue is that it targets new players and could potentially sour them on the game before they even really get started knowing what they're doing. That's bad for ALL of us, especially FD. But in a case like this where the 'victims' RP it, I can't fathom that this violates the ToS.

Your big mistake, clearly, was asking for permission and not just doing it to people who have access to journalists who wish to bring harm to the playerbase and the game itself.

Shame on you Oddball, I liked your irreverent videos on the Tube, you still doing them?

People that play the game in ways which make contextual sense are good for the game, in my opinion. People that are meta pop media salt and/or admiration miners, not quite so much.

Where does Frontier stand? I'm not sure if I care. Their vision for the game's potential seems a bit different than I was hoping for at times, so I'm just making the best of it for myself.

I primarily approach the game as being an explorer and survivalist, with a bit of an opportunist mixed in for good measure. These applied as best as is reasonably possible, contextually within the game, not the game's meta. I wouldn't call it an RP so much as just making the game fun to play.

Pixels only have the meaning that devs and players care to willingly place in them, and without that, there's little reason to play a game in the first place. I have an axe to sharpen if I want to grind something for the sake of it.

Generally: Preinformed and consent "should" be different from deceitful activity...
I going to just say no further comment.

This could have been a really great moment for Elite, that could have culminated in good press for F-Dev. I can't imagine the player base at large would allow the slavers to go unchecked, and when the Elite player base is driven to solve a problem, even when the solution requires brute force, they solve the problem. Now that the slavers are known it wouldn't have taken long to find their mining systems and disrupt their activities. This ban effectively robs the game and its players of those experiences.

They dont. After FDev's latest move, I'd say that ANY negative action against a fellow player can now be considered a disruption, non consensual or hurtful and should be dealt with accordingly. PVP and/or attacking any player should now be considered breaking the rules.

I'm kidding of course, but is the comedy of the situation that far from the truth?

Just asking for a fien...friend: is a cannibal slaver cartel pirate good bad or bad bad on the moral RP spectrum?

Also, is it counted as harassment talking about Powerplay to others? I admit I had to tape them down to keep them still but I'm concerned now I might have broken the ToS...

My CMDR has traded tens of thousands of cans of slaves. Vanilla or Imperial, these poor fools are in stasis, in a can, in the hold of my CMDR's ship, to be sold to who knows what, or jettisoned--to die in the cold of space or upon impact with the ground--when something more appealing comes along (or when I sneeze and hit the jettison cargo button).

He's got very little sympathy for gullible Pilot's Federation snobs who were suckered to into taking their personal space craft on a free tour to do some mining and only make enough cash for a thousand normal lifetimes, rather than a million. Screw those suckers.

As a player, I'm equally indifferent. People are dumb and there is little sense in trying to save them from themselves.

If you take these bans to their logical conclusion then I don't believe you're far from it.

Ganking could certainly fall under the harassment clause of the CoC of Frontier suddenly decided it should.
