So where do RP bad guys stand?

"So where do RP bad guys stand?"

Over there, in the corner, face away from the class.

Trying to rob someone of cargo has to be fine, otherwise we'll see NPCs on here crying about getting g banned just for trying to access some tasty cargo. If the NPCs do it, you can do it.
Do NPCs dream of tritium fleet carriers?

I want to start a movement to make sure every NPC has access to buy a fleet carrier, where would I start? I am a noob regarding the issues involved, but I FEEL like they should get them!

Ganking could certainly fall under the harassment clause of the CoC of Frontier suddenly decided it should.

But is a gank always a gank? I've attacked players I don't know with the intent of killing them for... reasons. The last one was in an imperial aligned squadron flying in a Fed controlled system that FEDX is trying to BGS for, and our squad is aligned with them. I sent her a message after the attack telling her why she was attacked and Imperials should stay out of the system. It led to good RP banter and now she's on my Xbox friends list. And if I cross paths with her again I'll try to blow her up again.

So given the issues with the Slavers. I would like to know where FDEV stand on "nicer" bad guys stuff. I am a RP pirate who does the following PvP Piracy, Kidnapping players and holding for ransom and recently I did a video (on my youtube same as my GT) as we moved into Pirate Protection Insurance (PPI) now obviously I would like to clarify if any of these contradict the new rules of conduct I did check before and these all seemed okay the way we were running them. I am a Member of the DMPS a Xbox pirate faction who always look for new ways to be RP criminals bad guys but not "BAD GUYS." we are in it for the emergent gameplay.

So please let me know if the following overstep so we can adjust or stop doing them before we get banned.
1, PvP Piracy I rob players in open messaging beforehand offering a 24 hour pass if they comply, if they do not it is hatch breakers away? (I would hope this is still seen as okay game play).
2, Kidnapping a player and holding them for a ransom. We have kidnapped many CMDR's (they have to be willing to RP as of course they could easily log out if they did not want to play victim). We then ask the community to pay a ransom or we kill the hostage. Normally someone nice pays us our Lavin Brandy or other cargo demands.
3, PPI insurance which we just launched we are asking player groups to pay us to not BGS them. The video on my channel explains we have done this to one player group and in the process of doing it to a 2nd. For RP reasons and to keep it light and fun we only ask for a small amount. We ask for 250 million upfront or more if we turn up (around 500 Million) but of course we negotiate..it is all about the RP fun. We would not do this to small squadrons as would only target those who can clearly afford it.
You are bad guy, but you are not bad guy. Mhm?

Hi Oddball,

On these forums, where the consensus is there should be no PVP unless it's "consensual", they'll scream for you to be drawn & quartered. LoL

I'm not sure it is consensus. It's just the voices who scream the loudest.

I don't want other players to gank me, or do other mean things to me, or force people into slavery, in much the same way I don't want to die in a deathmatch shooter or get screwed over in Monopoly. I don't want those things to happen, but the possibility of those things happening, being in a situation where those things CAN happen, the fear, the SPICE of that, is a large part of the fun of playing.

Elite differs a bit from those examples by being a lot more freeform and less rigidly rules-based. A lot of people struggle to accept that that means others can do monstrously twisted things that the devs didn't even envision (as well as unforseen nice things)... but that that's the natural tradeoff for complete freedom, and again, part of the fun. The knee-jerk reactions against that have had an influence on policy now, and I'm not sure that's a good thing for Elite. But hey ho, it's just a game.

I agree with this, though I vehemently believe that this sort of in-game behaviour should stay within the game world context (Monopoly being a visceral example of that not being the case, I wonder how many families that particular board game has broken).

That's the thing. ED is being painted as a haven for 's and slavers through the bad auspices of a click bait article that used the idea of a kid being induced to do something...

I have been playing the game for years and I just don't get where the idea comes from that this community is like that.
