So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

So Groundhog Day :D

Couldn't you try your GalNet post trick Jaiotu and see if you can get one past FD regarding Cass A?

- - - - - Additional Content Posted / Auto Merge - - - - -

I seem to remember in previous posts (or previous threads...) we determined that Cass A might no longer exist in 3302. Then again it could also be a black hole or supernova by then.

Would the strongest radio signal in the galaxy also be a good source of power? For, you know, an escaped AI?

There are a few links in the OP that should help out with suggested locations.

Right now ... I'm fixated on Cassiopeia A. Why isn't the strongest radio source in our galaxy included in Elite: Dangerous? Nobody has found it yet, have they?

This should be out there SOMEWHERE and right in the vicinity of the Rift:

I agree. This is very mysterious.

I found a Neutron Star in the vicinity of the Rift, I'll have to go back and see if I can find it. I think I took a screenshot of its location. Of course, there was nothing unique about it - it just happened to seem to keep popping up in front of me when I was sure I had taken a different route several star systems away from it but that could have just been a late night.

I get it, the pic looks like your avatar and your avatar is Raxxla! Further more what is Raxxla other than Cutuhlu's gate to our world and what is Elite other than Brooks's plot through Elite to create a gate composed of all our minds linked by the game and create the gate to bring back his elder gods. Course why state the obvious.

To point, in one of theses threads, maybe 1 or thread 2 there was a short hunt for Cass A so if you search in the threads,,
Checked my notes and one of the target areas for Cass A was calculated as around HYPHEERB AS-R D5-8, I don't recall by whom, to be within about 666 lyr {actually 600, but why not} of that target and no neutron or black holes were found but don't know how careful the search was, its sometime shortly after apr 22,2016.

Kahina's visit to Sol. She was supposedly there sent on a mission by Blaine. It maybe more likely the trip was political than astronomical in what she was up to at the time. Our 2016 minds may be getting in the way and we need to remember that in 3302 Earth is a gated planet for the uber rich mostly I'd assume as a status symbol, "O, you have a place on Earth, how lovely for you, I myself have several",
though England exists similar as it does now for the uber rich as a Mideaval Times theme park though without the pesky peasants.

Ops more Cass A target from my notes

Couldn't you try your GalNet post trick Jaiotu and see if you can get one past FD regarding Cass A?\

I did that yesterday :) but with the new Galnet submission system implemented last Monday it will be harder to judge if I hit anything :(

On a related note: a while back somebody posted something about a permit locked planet in system pha aeb xv-e d 11-1 which is very close to where Cas A "should" be. If someone could take a look? And... as long as they are there could they head "down" to SYREADIAE GZ-E D12-0? I'd be interested to know the results. I'm off to bed (and out at Jaques) so I can't check them out myself right now.

I did find a "surprise" black hole on a short trip back towards the bubble and reversing course back to the heart nebula. I say surprise because I was doing the whole jump scan jump routine then "oh crap the stars are coming right for me!!"

It was north of the nebula that looks like a pair of balls that's just the one black hole.

Has anybody raised this as a bug? Because the alternative might be some form of Dyson sphere around it that is blocking its visibility & that would meet the old lady's criteria. Edit: I meant to imply that the existence of such an advanced species would be perceived to be a potential threat & Feds/Imps would want to conceal their existence.

Presumably now a Neutron star or black hole.

The Dyson sphere idea reminded me of KIC 8462852 (tabby star or w.t.f. star) which is part of the constellation Cygnus or northen cross.
Here's a link to the wiki:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/KIC_8462852

Additionally I cross check it with the Perseus arm an i found this: the Norma arm. I'm quoting the wiki in the next part and also a link to the info if anyone wants to take a look.

'The Norma Arm is a minor spiral arm of the Milky Way extending from and around its central hub region.[1] The inner portion of the Arm is called Norma Arm in narrow meaning. The outer part of it is identified either with Cygnus Arm, which lies outside the Perseus Arm, or Outer Arm, which is located further away from the center of the Galaxy than Cygnus Arm."
Link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norma_Arm

I dont know how this helps... Funny is I actually read an article yesterday about the tabby star from Space.com(it pop up in my Google now feed). The article is from Aug 22.
Here's a link of anyone wants to read it:

I think the thing that turns me off from actively participating in this hunt instead of just following it (fervently, albeit), is the fact that we don't even really know what we're looking for. Of course, it's clear that the "what" of this is also the "answer." [wacky] I would wager others feel similarly to me in that it's not as if we're looking for a needle in a haystack, but more like we're looking for a slightly discolored blade of hay in an impossibly huge haystack (even just the EAFOTS and surrounding sectors are impossibly enormous).

Better minds than mine have put considerable brainpower into this with little in the way of tangible results; I think it's time for a slightly more concrete clue if you ask me. Of course I don't want the whole thing given away, but it seems like we're resorting to tangential theories out of desperation.

I think a nod in the right direction as to the nature of what it is we're hunting would go a long way. I feel like the most likely theory is some sort of "rogue A.I" or otherwise derelict civilization slowly accumulating resources and strengthening for ......?

"and they thought the Thargoids were trouble."

I tend to agree that perhaps a lonely CMDR will jump into a system to see a Dyson sphere surrounding the star. But then we're just circling back to the original problem of "we don't even know what we're looking for," because that's little more than a guess. And again, "it's not a POI." Well, how do you define POI? Wouldn't something just in the skybox only visible in a certain area or at a specific inclination be a POI also?

About 2klys from there, popped out to the rift for a quick trip, wanted to buckyball there and back. Can definitely swing by and poke around

Unless you have a theory which has actually produced results, in which case

So dunno if this was ever considered, I haven't read the gazillions of posts in the various threads, but I wonder if time is key to solving this. Looking back at what Kahina said, she was upset about being late on several occasions prior to her tour of the outer planets of sol. Indeed, the old hag made reference to what I think could be a clue staring us in the face.. 'Watch your six'.. ordinarily it means watch your back but even Drew has used the term, potentially a source for his own amusement (hey its getting like that now with these vague and abstract puzzles). It could mean something but it could mean nothing..

Therefore 'watch your six' could well be a reference to clocks/watches and potentially what is out there could vary in its location based upon that. Maybe its something that given all the other abstract clues and misdirection could be transposed to galactic co-ords. If we consider other comments that someone would find it without solving the puzzle they'd be lucky, it lends to something that might appear from time to time or in various locations. Perhaps both, then again I could have gone down a dead end on this..

In closing, I'd like to give Drew a piece of my mind (lolz) but I think I'd better head back to the bubble and leave this for now. How many thousands of us have put mental time and energy towards this? Must say though the whole thing has grasped by attention and imagination :)

Its similar to Michael Brookes comments about Raxxla.. Nevertheless, I suspect that in truth there isn't actually anything substantial in the game re either at the present time. Could be wrong about that too but Frontier would have had to obsfuctate those files when they haven't others.

Food for thought: The medusa cascade: 31 seconds look familar to anyone?

BEGONE HERETIC!

By your command!
I've gone a bit nutty and headed back to the bubble where I am going to lay waste to every commander I see [haha] I should reach exploration Elite upon my return, thats made the experience worth it and its been a very intriguing puzzle. I'll be back with a better equpped ship, omw back to Sol.

edit: I have more but I'll keep that to myself right now :) I'll return when the time is right...

So regarding PHA AEB XV-E D 11-1, there's another system nearby called PHA AEB XV-E D 11-0 which I investigated when I was out in the Rift time before last. That was the one that allegedly had a permit locked planet, but I'll check this other one too. Only 1kly away.

Something in the line of "That, CMDR, is the right question..." would be nice...

this is pretty much what has me rethinking this thing. The original clues in the book are still the best and clearest (though slightly confused). Though having spent a long, long time staring at the skybox... I found I actually had to come back tot he bubble to reset my brain to "0". I couldn't remember if particular sounds were normal, or specific tot he region anymore, I was seeing face in the skybox everywhere, and was pretty much at the point where I thought that even if I did see it, I wouldn't even know.

Having said that, I did do this first trip as more of a test run to give me a grasp of the region we're taking on, so I think I'll be a bit better prepared on my next trip.

Interesting points, actually. I took it as meaning to look back towards the bubble once you get to the (or past it) rift to see whatever it is, hence why I want right to the edge of the galaxy, and worked my way back, pretty much checking the skybox every 300LY with a lot of time spent getting nice and far from any stars to ensure a clear view. Probably spent about 30 mins every 300LY just doing that.

Of course, if the time is actually what is being referred to, well, let's just say my game time does not at all intersect with 6:00 or 18:00 galactic time thanks to my time zone. I'm either in the middle of work, or in the middle of sleep... So that would make it a non started for me... Even if I forced myself to wake up or stay up, I doubt I'd be coherent enough to notice anything...

Could that be why "it depends on who's looking"? Unlikely, if you ask me but worth considering.

Permit locked planets out there? Damn, if that doesn't scream out of place and worthy of noting, I don't know what does. I mean, if they didn't want us checking out the surface of a planet, couldn't they just give it an atmosphere for now, thus making it less note-able? Unless they wanted us to notice the permit locks. I wish I'd known about this earlier, I was just in the area a couple days ago. I'm buzzing with excitement for Jonuss to return to us with screenies!

EDIT: And I just found out where that weird, ultra-rare buzzing comes from. I was pleasantly surprised (Youtube video I found with the sound in it, not mine, around 4:37 mark):

I've not had much time to think about the Rift mystery this last week or so.

However, when I looked at the other regions that were mentioned in Salome's distress called (Hawkins Gap and The Conflux) I noticed a couple of things. There's one nebula in Hawkins Gap, there appear to be many in and around the Conflux. One of those is where Jaques Station can be found and it's interesting to note that it looks almost identical to the nebula at Hawkins.

In addition to that, you can draw a line from Hawkins Gap to the Rift that passes directly through the bubble. I picked a random system and checked to see how close it was from the RR line (in the opposite direction). About 100ly.

I don't know if there's any significance to this, but seemed worth mentioning.

OMG. NGC 6357 is smack-dab right in the middle. An oft-asked question is why is NGC 6357 so prominently highlighted in the galaxy map.

I was past the HaS on my way home, but eh, whatever; what's another few thousand light years:

PHA AEB XV-E D11-1 and 0 are perfectly ordinary systems as far as I can tell. xxx-1 has been thoroughly scanned already by a CMDR Thanos.

I am currently in the xxx-0 system, a few of the inner planets to the drop-in star have been scanned by another CMDR. I'm going to have a look at the unscanned far parts of the system, 180K Ls out, but strongly doubt there's anything to find. The map shows nothing out of the ordinary.

I'll have a look at SYREADIAE GZ-E D12-0 afterwards, and am open to all suggestions for checking out things in the area.

Edit: One curious thing I've noticed out here is that the Heart nebula seems to be gone from the skybox. I'm pretty sure this was confirmed as a bug a while ago, but never the less, it might mean there's something peculiar about the Heart game-engine wise, and this is an unforeseen effect of that peculiarity.

Greatly appreciated. SYREADIAE GZ-E D12-0 is a neutron star so be careful jumping in. If you can get screenies of the system map... that would be awesome. Especially any details on the Neutron Star itself. She's in the right general area to be a candidate for Cassiopeia A.
