So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

The viels so far, and please add to the list:

1. Crown removed, left in the Clipper
2. Name removed, officialy now Salomé
3. Leaves ship behind
4. Captured and stripped of her freedom
5. Stripped of her title

#1 above might be 1 & 2 as a crown and medallion were found. Ishtar removed her crown at one gate and necklace at another I believe (or maybe it was earrings?)

Not sure about your #3, although her Clipper was also "stripped" of its modules. Not sure if that counts.

Also, (I've said it before and I'll say it again) if you have a spaceship, the LAST place you want to go to look at the stars is the surface of a planet with an atmosphere.

This is true - but a couple of things to remember: These constellations are only viewable from Earth, or a place close to Earth.

Kahina did tour the gas giants whilst in Sol - to get a better look perhaps?

And she said the trip to "Sol" was most enlightening... not 'Earth' :)

Mega-tinfoil moment...

Alpha Cass is known as Schedar.
Schedar is alternatively spelled 'Shedir'.
Shedir is 'Rides' backwards ("remembered") with an additional 'h'.

You're smoking something good there :D

I actually visited every star in Cassiopeia some time back. The only one I didn't attempt was Rho Cassiopeia.

I didn't find anything unusual in any of them, scanned every planet and checked descriptions.

Then again, I didn't really know what I was looking for.

My hunch is that Drew is narrowing our focus to a particular area of the galaxy with these clues. We just need to learn how to read them :D

I've been thinking about how the three constellations, when looked at from the Rift form an arrow.

It's so far away and the galaxy is so huge that if it's pointing at something specific, it's going to be just about impossible to figure out what. However, what if it's much simpler than that. It's been suggested we look at the skybox and this arrow is telling us the direction to look in?

I think whatever we're looking for is small enough that we have to be fairly close (a very small region of space) to see it but if we're in that region, we just look that way and we should notice it?

Ahhh, but if Salome knew about 'the vain queen' 18 months ago and didn't share that information with anybody, even CoR, then I'm quite happy to let her be executed

No, it does not. Via Old French 'remembrer', it comes from Latin 'rememorari'. There is Latin 'recordare'/'recordari' but etymologically, it has nothing to do with 'remember'.

Drew? Ah!...I got you ;)

Jokes aside, my bad. I translated "remember" to italian (ricordare) and then looked up the etymology of that word instead.

So, the French word "remembrer" comes from the Latin word "rememorari", as you correctly pointed out. Then meaning "Call to mind"? as in "The vain queen rides a giraffe that "calls to mind" her daughter's hero"?
Would that be another way of writing the same thing?

And Drew did say something about people possibly wanting a Sol permit soon...

I keep coming back tot he fact that we were expected to figure this out with just the original clues in the book.

I suspect the only reason a SOL permit will be worth much is if there is a Galnet feed we are looking for specifically only in Sol.

Well, 6 more days to get the shooting thing out of my system, then back to the rift. I need chemical manipulators... Where the @)%* do you find those fracking things...

Not sure if this is that relevant now, however the other stars in the prism system. Diamond, ruby and sapphire coincide with Ishtar's belt of birthstones. Diamond - April, ruby- July and Sapphire- September.

SoOT (sort of off-topic), but if Kahina escapes in a Beluga or Cutter shaped like a turkey, we're going to know we've been chasing the wrong narrative all along; however, I would salute the creative license.

Hahaha ... well TBH I'd be happy to see her go. She's been flipping useless :p

However Cassiopeia has been a strong clue since very early on.

The entire Sol visit from last year, points to something that is visible form there.

- Going to Mars for the latest map data.
- Going to the outer gas giants for viewing the sky, without light pollution from the Sun.
- Going to Earth to see historical data, pictures and maps(our current RL data).

The question would then be, is there clear visual a mismatch?

We know that Cas A is seemingly missing from the game, but that isn't a strictly visible object. If something is to qualify as 'most enlightening', it's a bit obtuse mean a radio source.

What are we missing?

Anything observable in the Rift from Sol would have occurred thousands of years in the past.

Take Cas A as an example. If the radio/x-ray source for Cas A is no longer observable from Sol then that means that something happened to it ten thousand years ago. Also: Didn't Drew say that Kahina's trip to Sol happened before the epilogue in Reclamation?

Here's my thoughts: Kahina meets the old woman in the hospital who then goes on ranting and raving about the Frontier, her Pilots Federation rank and something called the "Formidine Rift". Most people would just smile and nod in agreement at the old woman's ranting and then... never think about the incident again. Which is exactly what Kahina does for the rest of the novel until the epilogue.

Whatever Kahina found while in Sol had to have been enough to remind her of the old woman's ranting and then prompt her to seek out more information and to break into the Imperial database.

If I needed to point you somewhere in our sky (without being obvious), the phrase "The vain queen rides a giraffe that remembers her daughter's hero" would be one effective way.

Alpha Persei (Mirfak, Algenib or Alpha Per) has about 8.5 times the Sun's mass and has expanded to roughly 60 times the size of the sun. It is radiating 5000 times as much luminosity as the Sun. Not sure how it would look in 3300 but could it be what Salome' is referring to when she took her trip to Sol (most enlightening?)
I know this is only 500LY (approx) from us but perhaps going there, or some other findings, could reveal the next clue?

Huh... "the Concealer of the Pleiades". Interesting!

Nah nothing yet bongobaggins, but 2.2 sure seems exciting for content called "mysterious things" in the patch notes, no ones seen it in beta so we are expecting mysterious content whatever it is is only in the final build
