So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

I hit the ground! ;_;

I turned my ship on its side to look out the window, then my toddler wanted a quick cuddle, so I forgot to level the ship.

I turned back to the screen to see my ship plummet to the ground. I didn't even have time to boost away.

Ouch. I still would like to know why the ship starts heating up just because you banked. Wonder if that's a bug or as intended.

At this point I'm considering opening a support ticket begging to be put back out in the Rift even if I have to rescan everything!

I'm on the verge of going crazy

depend on the ships angle to the ground you can cause heat to your ship from the thrusters. flying up side down on this world can cook your ship.

I agree....I almost never fly in open back in the bubble, but out here in an Asp Ex with no weapons I have seen 1 other cmdr in several months. That was a strange one...I jumped into a totally random system in the Heart nebula and someone was there in an Asp just idling in SC. Looked to me like they had walked away from the computer or something, which is a definite no-no while in open.
Lol, could have been me! ;) (I'm cmdr Mark P Dorling)
.
Tbh, anything that can keep up with me would be a threat, as long as it had a weapon. My Asp's shields are just about enough to survive a landing, and my hull might as well be tin foil.

But, that being said, when I'm out exploring, I'm always in Open. I was so surprised to see another CMDR on GL-Y E2 6 that I ended up instinctively checking his loadout to see if he was armed. He wasn't, actually, and he had the same hull health as me (54%), and running completely shieldless, which is either brave, crazy or stupid when you're playing with 1.34G!
If you see me, don't panic on my load out, yes I have 2x beams & 2x MCs, but their there for self defense, I won't attack ya :)

Sorry for the re-post but I want to make sure I get this right before putting work into it. Are we absolutely sure that we want 7 points between degrees of longitude?

i.e. -180.0000, -179.875, -179.7500, -179.6250, -179.5000, etc...

Could we get away with 4?

i.e. -180.0000, -179.8000, -179.6000, -179.4000, -179.2000, -179.0000

Honestly, I don't think that anyone would feel realistically comfortable doing even every half a degree search. That would still be like 720 columns/passes of 3 hours each (i.e. 0 to -45 on each half a degree of longitude). But I'm trying to have a way to record my progress and anyone's else willing to join in.

Allowing 7 points between degrees of longitude means we are talking about 2520 columns (180x2x7)??

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

I just created the few first columns as an example...

Edit: this is for GL-Y E2 6

And the silence in the room was now tomb-like when everyone realized the real extent of the search effort...:D

Lol, yes 7 is a bare minimum, but that was only at & near the equator, IIRC someone suggested that could be tapered off by 1 per 10° latitude.
Of course that makes for a complicated table!!

I'm in a conda. If I don't stay straight I start to fall rapidly. 90% hull atm. I was lucky. I'm so sorry for you losing your ship :(. It must be so frustrating.

Just as a sidenote: what would be the best ganking technique?

Don't search for explorers, let them come and search for you - stop your ship at certain coordinates, then write here "I found it, coordinates 50.0 -14.1, unfortunately I do not know how to post screenshots - come, it is AWESOME!" :)

50.0 -14.1? I'm on my way!

This place is too big. Thay must have put the Base near a landmark. The biggest crater is full of...mist?.....do you guys think frontier are that sadistic....thay would want us to find it in there? That's like putting a pea somewhere in London and telling someone to find it with no tools in the fog. :p

Yes, I think so... Whatever that slot size is, I've got D-rated.

I've had to turn off the Xbox to calm down, so I can't check ATM. I've got nothing to lose, I'll open the support ticket anyway and accept whatever their decision is.

Sorry your ship went boom :(

I did scan the ship while in SC but can't recall the name. Should have been back around Jan 6th.
I don't think it was me then, I think I was omw back to the bubble at that point (my Asp has shields, if that helps).

Yea, I don't get why you say we should limit ourselves to 125 m/s........

!!! ATTENTION ALL PILOTS !!!

THIS IS NOT A DRILL

I have just detected a 10+ second loading time at the following coordinates. All pilots converge on my location and begin a 8.0000 degree radius search!

20.2897, 12.0063
Arrgg! Was at work then! :p, then had stuff to sort out for my new flat! :)
Reading to the end of this thread, & then I'll be in, if it isn't too late ;)

That's scary!, but to combat that, no screenshot = no show! :p

I'm running 5A thrusters just because the high g world. help with heat problems cause by 4D on high G world.

Gypsy here.

I need to get ALL of my ships out of the bubble. I want to send my type 9, sidey, Cobra 3 and 4 to Colonia. How much will this cost me? Does anyone know?

I also want to send my darling Asp out there too. But I need to stay behind for a bit so will outfit another Vulture and quick jump asp. I really want to get my basics as far away from the bubble as possible.

I'm in an ASP with guns. Pure defense. They're fully gimballed, weak, and only to buy some time for getting out of dodge. My hull is down to 54%, paint is rough, and I really need to vacuum out the interior. If you see CMDR Schaefer - that's me. I really should have fitted better thrusters. I've had two ground-related events on this one hellish planet. A few pants-browning events, too where I wasn't paying attention to my pitch and "wow I have 1km to pull out of this dive) with meters to spare (a 180 boost is effective). I really want one of us to find this base soon so I can stop going blind, crapping myself, and scraping off parts of my ship. By the time I'm done it'll be the size of a Diamondback.
