Sol Powerplay Update

So what happens to all the merit I missed out on when handing in these resources in a system far from Sol?
Are those gone for good, or are they just on hold?

Gone for good, almost certainly.

No-one got any back pay when rares were re-enabled, and there's no guarantee that data will be re-enabled at all (escape pods haven't been yet and probably won't be, for example)

At least with escape pods there's an argument that they shouldn't have used those in the first place, although my real concern there is how it wasn't picked up that they were an exploit waiting to happen before the new powerplay was implemented in the first place.

Odyssey data feels different though and I feel it's going to be a big statement on how they intend to deal with exploits. Either they genuinely fix them or keep removing bits of the game until we have no more game.

Being positive, I can see it coming back because this is supposed to be "the" genuine multiplayer segment of the game. Diminishing it constantly every time there's a problem isn't going to have players rushing to the store to buy powerplay customisations and might not be the best look for anyone considering buying the game.

That's fair - I wouldn't mind so much if they replaced the escape pods in the various Power wreckage/combat signal sources with black boxes, so the intended signal sources still had something approximating their original good-but-not-ridiculous value.

Yes, definitely.

This one is particularly tricky since the non-exploit form of it made up probably over half of legitimate Undermining, comparing the last week and a half with the earlier ones. So it's effectively Frontier declaring a 12-way ceasefire while they fix it. (If there hadn't already been a 12-way ceasefire for most of the last six months I can imagine that would have gone down worse, of course)

I am absolutely fine with the removal of features so as not to let players adjust to something that is not intended, however, radio silence when my way of playing is interrupted is quite silly, it would take all of a few moments to clarify when it will return, and if not, what and why are the reasons preventing you from doing so? I am not trying to sound entitled with "my game is broken crying emoji" but I would like some clarification as to when i can return. cause quite frankly, i can turn in 3 things of powerplay data, or Destroy 10 elite level NPC's (thrice the time and effort) for meager gains that equate to that.

Exactly this. Feels like we are heading straight to boring flyer hauling again. PP2 would then share its predecessor's fate. Ah well, it was fun while it lasted.
I mean PP2.0 is already dead. Started PP 2.0 in November, finished PP 2.0 with rank 225 in January. Three out of ten missions didn't work. I can buy everything and that's it. The current action by FD only shows me that it hasn't got any better.

Yeah really need data back, once again our power is without its boosted method. Also when is someone going to fix the material reclaim? Support won't help because its a known issue that's being looked at..

Its been broken since PP2.0 started, so basically past rank 100/200 other than credits no reward for power play.

If FDev keeps abandoning support and iteration for previous features for the sake of focusing on getting the next NEW! thing out, this game will descend into an irrecoverable mess. It already took 6 months to be able to restock concord canons consistently, an issue reported week 1 of PP 2.0's release. And the last update we got for PP 2.0 was.. text changes removing mention of escape pods for PP, that was it. They didn't even remove them from Power Wreckage sources or remove the weekly PP missions that require them. There's still a multitude of issues with PP 2.0 still, and all we got were some text changes. PP 2.0 is clearly in maintenance mode for them.

Edit: I may have misremembered, I think that may have been the same update Rare Goods were re-enabled, but I don't recall exactly.

Frontier need to invest in fixes to existing features, because when they don't, those features see less use because of a lack of fixes.

Frontier, the things the player engage with the least are the things that need the corrective attention.

Feature dies because FDEV won't fix it -> Fdev don't fix a thing because it's dead -> thing stays dead because they don't fix it.

They use their own inaction driving player disengagement to justify their inaction.

And also the adjustments to the merit:control point ratio for reinforcement vs acquisition/undermining

It also didn't just remove the text about escape pods, it also switched Power ethos bonuses so that Powers which previously got +50% for escape pods started getting +50% for things which still work.

Wasn't a bad patch in and of itself for Powerplay, they just need to be doing that sort of thing more regularly.

Greetings commanders,

We have been closely monitoring the Powerplay situation in Sol and a number of other affected systems. We are aware of a recent increase in undermining scores impacting the powerplay status of those systems, and have taken action to address the situation.

To prevent further impact, we have temporarily disabled system score and merit gain from the on foot transfer power data activity until a permanent fix is in place. On the next Thursday maintenance (19th June), we will return the systems to their appropriate state. Please note that the galaxy map panel for the affected systems will also return to normal at this time.
Any update on the systems that were supposed to be reverted last week or do you plan on letting ALD keep all of those ill-gotten systems, proving that it does, in fact, pay to exploit/cheat?

There is no need to prove that, because it was clear from past incidents, anyway. Thus FDev does not have to invest anything there at all.
