It is a good poll, we need to know that vocal minority is a minority and how insignificant it actually is :)

1) an open poll is NEVER a good poll. I for my part don't participate in any of them. This option should be removed.
2) it has been discussed...and polled...and discussed....and polled....

Not really. The journey is the destination in Elite. It doesn't matter what you or anyone else has. PvP is a quite niche interest in Elite: Dangerous.

Well the journey involves having targets rage quit when you're winning and stick it out when you're losing. This kind of spoils the journey, like speed bumps made of pure disappointment and buzzkill.

People want challenge and not to have their hand held, well then fight and die like a freedom loving little Elite. That or just stick to solo and groups because you apparently have no interest in negative social interaction in your journey. That's like 30% of all social interaction.

No I don't think it will kill it. Rather the choice of ways to play will increase the number of people who buy Elite. In fact the only reason I invested $200 in Alpha is because of the online solo mode. If the game was online multiplayer only I would not have purchased it. And by the way, if Frontier eliminated online solo and made all players use online multiplayer all hell would break loose and rightly so. I know I would demand my money back. Bottom line it will never happen but unfortunately that doesn't keep the EVE crowd from incessantly wining about it. There is a reason I do not play EVE or most other multiplayer games and I am delighted Elite is nothing like that nightmare of a game. I think if I see one more post about eliminating online solo or disallowing switching between the two I will throw up.

+1
I agree 100%

I don't think cheese will kill it but I am concerned about ham.

no, ham is just a distraction, the real problem is beef.

but, back on topic: giving people the freedom to play they way they want is never a bad thing, force everyone to play only one way and you will ruin the game.

The only scenario where it could really hurt the game is if two people engage in a fight, and then the losing one disconnects and switch to solo. But this is no possible to do, so I REALLY don't see how this is an issue, unless there are people that just want to wait in an unpopulated system and kill whoever passes by. In which case... well, there are 400 billion more systems people can go to.

IMHO, the game is perfect as it is.

These forum polls are useless. First off its generally only a very small percentage of a player base that frequents the forums. Second off its likely a majority of the players that are happy with the game in its current state are too busy playing the game to be bothered, whilst the people unhappy with the state of the game are more likely to be vocal on the forums. Even if this poll shows 90% of people vote one way or the other on the Open / Closed / Private Groups all lumped together issue it is meaningless.

Essentilly what the game is at the moment is a solo / group PVE game, with an optional arena component. Play solo till you get a bunch of cash together, then go shooting in PvP if you feel like it.

Absoloutley no reason to trade in open world at the moment. It adds nothing but risk.

It won't kill the game, but it may not exactly help it, either. I do believe a proper cut between Single and Multiplayer should have been made - offline Single player, completely separate from your online experience - no credits, ships etc. carrying over, you start any mode from scratch.

They could still at least separate Solo from Open by allowing multiple CMDR saves as well as forcing everyone who's already playing to make a decision whether they want to have their current CMDR in Open or Solo in the future. Any CMDRs created in the future would be created either for a Solo or an Open experience, never able to switch around.

But the same rules/options are present for all so no-one has an advantage over someone else, they just have choices to make.....

Anyway I think Elite is not the type of game where anyone should be trying to out do anyone else really, it's a game you play for yourself, always has been and always will be...and as this is the case different modes don't affect anything or anyone

90 percent of people who are *not* happy with the game and/or are *not* busy playing the game (I actually just have forum opened on a separate screen) seem to be happy with Frontier decision. Not sure how it is meaningless, looks like the amount of whining threads on the subject is actually higher than the number of supporters :)

No - having solo mode for people that want it is fine by me. I'll still always play in open.

Granted I did play in a private group once but I couldn't find my buddy in open play so it was wholey down tot he crappy matchmaking and/or bugs. Still great fun though.

However I would prefer if there were separate saves for each of Open Play, Solo Play, +1 for each group, but hey whatever, nothings perfect!

Some people like that inherent risk, and they are playing in Open. Some people don't, and they aren't Nobody is wrong, the game gives everyone the tools they need to play the game in the way that suits them. Working as intended.

As someone that's been trading in Open since the start of Gamma I'm currently shaking my head at that comment. We are not all as totally risk-adverse as you.

Okay I'm not trying to argue, just figure out whats going on. I backed when it was 150, and school has prevented me from keeping up with the conversation. As far as I can tell, your saying the reason that you don't play on solo play is because you like the risk? The risk makes the game funnier for you ?

So from what I understand you can go from open play to solo play and it's the same exact thing for a trader, except that you don't have the risk of getting interdicted by a human player and your 600k worth of cargo stolen from you in solo play?

As someone who has played this game on open play, thinking you couldnt just switch between the two solo/open. Finding out that I can do solo without the risk tells me, "WHY IN THE HELL AM I DOING OPEN PLAY."
You mean this whole time I could have made these scary runs without the risk of players taking it from me? just the NPC interdict ever now and then? WOW.

So yeah as for me, that means imma make all my money on solo, then switch to pvp when i got all the money i could use and kill and steal from people who don't know any better, like me a week ago tell today.

I am amazed that you can switch between the two, and please can someone explain what EXACTLY is stopping someone from dropping there game and connection when losing a fight to switch to solo? Somebody said they can't do that, and i would like to know why they can't do that when it's super easy to disconnect and drop the game in a split second.

Please help me understand , thankx
