So I saw Solo today, towed into it by friend.

Have to say - forget critics and wary fans worried about troubled production. Yes, it doesn't break any new grounds, but it does all right things and surprise, cast was superb (yes, including Solo), and story worked for me. Proper adventure movie old Star Wars style with proper lore. Jokes worked too.

Very positively surprised. Proper popcorn Star Wars movie. And yes, I totally bought this is new Solo.

Ron Howard has a history of doing good work.
I'll wait for the blu-ray/DD/Netflix release.

Does anyone take ownership of their decisions these days?

I'm not watching this one, I'm done with postmodernist Star Wars.

Yeah, after Episode 1 that has become my default position. However if the redlettermedia guys give it a good review i might pick it up on DVD. Alongside the special edition originals (includes the non altered original versions also) i also own the third of the prequel films, but having watched it i wonder why. None of the post Lucas era stuff inspires any kind of Star Wars feeling sadly, but maybe Solo can be the one to bring the feeling back? I await the review.

LoL What does postmodernist mean in this context?

But I am definitely going to watch Solo, like I will watch all things Star Wars, and then judge for myself.

Yeah, Solo, is really nice.
I like all four "new" SW films, to be honest. Rogue One the least, tbh, but it was also well made, I just don't see the point of it. But Solo is great. Acting, pacing, action, direction,... All came together just fine, here.

Solo is perfectly valid. Some people just don't care for Open.

Oh. Wait. Maybe I should read the OP and not just comment based on the thread title ...

I'm looking forward to watching Solo. So far I've been very happy with the direction of the new films. They're enjoyable action adventure flicks. I'm not watching them to find some life changing philosophy. I'm just watching them to be entertained and don't really care if they are going a different direction from the Expanded Universe.
