Something for the weekend? (Premium Beta getting single player combat build)

A couple of questions:

1) would it be worth starting a new thread for impressions/discussion for Beta Premium members while we have the single player; lots I'd like to discuss/ask about/share experiences, but clearly it's not particularly of interest to FD and we don't have access to the Alpha forums. In fact I don't have access to backer forums either (is that an early pledge thing)?

2)quick thing, sure been answered before, but can't find and dont' want to start new thread. Why does the forum keep changing colour?

tyty
1) I agree. It would be helpful if they opened up the Alpha forum sections that are about the single player game too.

2) Haven't got a clue about the colours.

I wonder how many people are currently explaining to their boss they feel ill and need to leave early?

There's been a sudden outbreak of scarlet fever at a few schools in the city recently including the one school that is directly across the street from me. I think I have a valid excuse for the very sudden and unexplained illness that has affected me over that last few hours :D

It's not available for download yet, it's all in progress.

Michael

I was a bit too quick off the mark as well. Everything is fine now. My only problem is do I watch the footie or play ED? ;)

if you shut up about the ESTIMATED delivery date and praise the ways of saint braben for all eternity i update you to alpha right now.

if not, well i shall /flounce

:D

I appreciate "the offer" but why should you pay for something I should have gotten last month anyway. Besides, good things do not happen on the internet. Nothing is free, except death, destruction, and waiting for overdue deliveries.

Wow and I thought I was a curmudgeon

I don't think access to the alpha forum would help (would be completely different builds so would add to the overall confusion), but maybe request access to the backers forum or petition for a beta forum?

Please explain why you should have received it last month?

Beta forum possibly doesn't make sense at this stage because it's an alpha the betans are using! :p

Or maybe they could set one up and wipe it when the actual beta (software) arrives.

Yeah, rolling out beta forum maybe next week would be wise thing to do.
But isn't this the same single player combat software that the alphas have already used?

I would like to see the alpha forum threads about the single player combat build. I'm having a few problems installing it, so I would like to read other peoples experiences.

Finally got it going - quite a battle. (My Windows 7 64 hasn't been behaving properly for several days so it is probably my computer, not Frontier's fault.)
I had to go into safe mode to run the Client-Installer otherwise it just froze trying to install the C++ 2010 stuff (which was already installed).

Then the actual game would only download if I did a 'clean reboot' (ie just Windows services running) and then downloading it.

It then downloaded the game ok but when I ran it I got the error message 'This game has failed to communicate with the authentication server' and it wouldn't go any further. Arrgggh!
Uninstalling my Commodo firewall and reinstalling it fixed this. Success! Suddenly I was in space! (and no idea at all of how to drive the thing).

Now I just have to learn what all the mouse and keyboard controls do, and try and get my antique Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro stick working. I'll try that tomorrow.

11/04/14 Update: Got it all working, including the stick.

Is there a reason why the client has a default install path to the c: with no way to change it?

(unless I totally missed the part where I could specify)

I could select the path for the down-loader.

If it helps, you can change the client location to the same location as the down-loader by creating a Products directory in the down-loader directory. So I have my client installed under D:\Programs\Frontier\ED-Launch\Products\.... (edit: this is detailed in the Knowledge Base)

And like many here I couldn't resist the upgrade from backer to premium beta (with a nice discount), so happy, thanks Frontier! :D
