Something I observed about AI "difficult"

So I was multi crew bounty hunting last night and noticed how erratically the ai flies. Cheating almost. Main pilot was in a corvette and I was a fighter. Anacondas, clippers and pythons we out boosting me, cutting impossible angles and the such. I consider myself a decent pilot. Like the corvette was turning and couldn't follow the ships because they were turning so fast. And they were like clipping animation wise to ram me in my fighter and get behind the vette. The same laws of physics dont apply to the ai ships that apply to us. You can only really see it from the fighter perspective

They do obey to the same laws of physics as we do, but they are by far more efficient in using the maneuvering thrusters. I have come to a point where no NPC can surprise me by erratic flying or trying to ram me and I fly a Vulture.

Also, what could have happend is that the vette pilot was hosting the instance (ED is dynamic instancing/p2p hybrid). I notice that whenever somebody else is hosting the instance, the NPCs tend get "laggy" or start rubberbanding when the said client/host lives far away or has high latency.

The AI is not designed to kill you, or think in any logical fashion.

The AI is designed to lengthen the TTK (time to kill) as much as possible, even though it gimps them tactically.

The AI has access to parameters that humans dont have access to, and so they abuse them. How many times have you seen an AI ship "just outside" your reticle? Often, right? The AI are windowlickers designed to suck our game time. They are NOT DESIGNED TO KILL. The AI take ZERO risks.

What the AI windowlickers do is analyze data that is available, yet not comprehensible to a human. Seriously, when do human pilots fly perfectly outside of the cone of fire of a given ship?

The AI is programmed to frustrate you. Unlike the player, the AI doesnt care if it's ship dies. HOWEVER....It makes the game more grindy if the AI is coy rather than upfront. The AI only cares about annoying one person in the entire galaxy. YOU, as the player, have to worry about so much more. It's asymetrical warfare at it's best.

The braindead perfect vector AI. They fight NOTHING like humans and they add nothing to the game.

PSA: If you want to fool the perfect AI, simply toggle flight assist off. *stop censoring me you hacks* the AI.

I'm guessing you preferred it when they literally just rolled over and died?

:p

Hmmm, there used to be loads of videos of that bug. Now I can't find a single one. Lol

Frustrated much?

NPCs or the AI uses the same parameters as we do, same modules and ships with the same limitations.
I never had any NPC flying "just outside the reticle"
And I have never seen any NPC doing stuff a human pilot can't do.

What I have seen however, are human pilots that fly way better than any elite NPC. Makes you wonder why people say that NPCs are "cheating" if they only use their ship more efficiently than any average combat pilot...

Yeah, NPCs use heir ships better than human pilots. That's why an NPC falls in 17 seconds compared to Rinzler....

Edit: Humans fly differently because they aren't programmed. NPCs only care about the one battle ahead of them. Humans think farther ahead.

Also, humans simply fly differently. I.E. Humans care about the repercussions of the battle. The NPCs have no cognizance of life beyond that "one big battle", and they fly as such. (They also suck at it. They are too defensive, too risk averse)

I must be some kind of new type of NPC then. I don't care much about anything else when in combat x)

But I don't suck at it (at least I like to think so :D)

haha, currently every "dangerous" ranked npc is a better pilot then myself.

yesterday my eagle was interdicted by a player corvette and wreaked before i manged to deploy my weapons.

how much can some panic to forget what button the mouse deploys weapons, and which one is for landing gear?

I am more amused by the fact that there are people who still think the NPC's don't cheat. Not cheat in a good way, just don't run out of ammo, chaff, SCB's or gain any heat.
I can't recall how many times I have been laying into an NPC with incendiary ammunition while they pop SCB after SCB without a single problem. Whereas I can't fire a SCB sitting totally idle without roasting modules.

NPCs don't cheat in the traditional sense. However, what they do is instantaniously process information about the opponent ships. The NPCs are exceptionally good at some things, and exceptionally bad at others. The biggest frustration is that they don't fly like humans......at all. It's so annoying. They do things to extend their life by 10 seconds, but otherwise are tactically irrelevant.

The NPCs will kill you if they can, but their sole existence is to make your TTK as high as possible given their ships. That's it. That's the SJA contribution to Elite.

Edit: NPCs don't care about heat because unlike humans, they are not persistent and they only think one step ahead. Why would an NPC care about it's repair bill?

They are somewhat effected by heat. Check their module status after some SCB spamming. :)
They also have limited SCB, and chaff ammo. They do have unlimited MC ammo though, but that's to stop them running out in CZs.

All these people saying that NPC's have unlimited ammo, ask yourself, when was the last time you ran out of ammo against your first NPC opponent?
99.9% of all NPC's I get in to a fight with, don't even last long enough to use up their 11 chaff ammo.

In this context are you fighting humans or NPCs?

Both :D

Dunno how you see that they run out of ammo... generally they die before they could run out of it....

Pulling a wing of Eagles/vipers/cobras/vultures with an Engineered Corvette. Takes a while to kill the little suckers, usually at least one has missiles or railguns. Hell of a lot more railgun ammunition than I can carry, ditto the missiles...
