Russia has nothing to Gain from Attacking Europe either. Russia knows even if Europe was alone. Because even if they somehow managed to Beat Europe in a War. They would take such Devastating Losses and would Face such immense Cost from Nukes etc that they would never break even afterwards.

I fully agree with you on the point that a more powerful Europe weakens the possibilities of US influence and that can not be in the interest of of any US government. Also I share your opinion that we most certainly won't have to fear Russia attacking the EU or any of its members in an open war.
Putin is certainly a corrupt scumbag, but he is definitly not stupid. On the contrary, he is much smarter than the racist horror clown currently occupying the oval office. He is ex-KGB, probably excellent at chess and certainly knows Sun Tzu's
The Art of War inside out. To quote Cpt. Picard: he can 'manipulate the circumstances with the skill... of a Romulan'. If you ever wonder what a real Bond movie style villain looks like, look at Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.
From Russia with Love
By no means he will go to war openly against any member of the EU or NATO, the risk of escalation is much to high, including the use of nuclear weapons as a last resort.
I'm rather worried that in fact he already is at a kind of covert war, with his hacker brigades as first waves, instead of tanks or airplanes. The
2007 cyberattacks on Estonia should be considered merely as a first test of that weapon, certainly the russians have learned by now, how to use it in a much more appropriate way. Espionage, sabotage and subversion (
Zersetzung) is classic KGB (now FSB) field of activity and it seems safe to assume that nowadays they use the potential of the internet to do that (manipulating elections for example).
By giving hidden support to Trump in the USA, Putin uses him as a kind of fifth column to undermine the western alliance and we can expect russians trying to influence the coming elections in Europe this year, too.
As a side-effect Putins interior propaganda will be able to exploit a growth of right wing nationalist parties like the french
Front National or the
AfD in Germany by pointing out that the western civilization has always been of fascist nature, as happened before during the crisis in Ukrainia.
However his primary aim is certainly to hit the free trade relations between our countries, because these are most important assets of our economy and economical power is definitely the EU's most important way to gain influence. Europe is first and foremost an economical superpower.

In a Sense its Hilarious.
If Germany would Increase its Defense Budget to 2% of its GDP. And thus get an Budget of 80-90 Billion.
I am pretty sure. Quite a few Nato Allies would be "Concerned" to say the least *gg*
Albeit I would rather Enjoy it to have an 500-600k Strong Military with 3000-5000 Tanks again
I would love to see the Newspapers from Britain and Russia talking about how Germany is Preparing for World War 3 and wants to Conquer the World again xD
Ursula von der Leyen already announced the necessity to raise Germany's military budget, so it seems very likely to happen. But I don't agree with you that this might be a reason to be 'concerned' for any neighboring countries government. More than 70 years have passed since the end of the last world war and it should be very obvious that Germans generally do not have ambitions any more to invade other countries. Also since at least the Iraq war of 2003 it should be clear that Germany does not move its army easily.

As long as the Federal Republic of Germany exists, its politics has always been defined by two cornerstones: 'No more war!' and 'No more holocaust!'.
So if the
Bundeswehr ever goes to war again the reason for that might only be as a means of defense (like the german involvement in Afghanistan) or to put an end to a genocide (like in the Kosovo in 1999).
