Game Discussions SpaceBourne 2

and now the inevitable occurs: I must compare before I buy ...Paranoia sets in
So I draw a comparison between Starfield and Space Bourne 2
Lots of pros and cons (I need my ocd to help here)
Graphics > Starfield
UI > ?
Gameplay > ? but probably SF
Availability > SB2
Galactic limits (for lack of a better term) > SB2
So many things to look at. ... all comments are imho
Have a nice day
How could you compare? Spacebourne is playable, Starfield isn't.

Thus the "Availabilty" factor goes to: ... ... Space Bourne 2 🥳

That post was a failed attempt at humor. I'll take my cookies and go sit in the corner.
I'm really leaning toward getting SB2. With all the bugs and goofy graphics issues at this point, I'm still amazed at the game and its development team. (or person)

Have a nice day

Edit: Its now in my cart.

There are a lot of videos out there for this game considering its still early access. That says a lot imho, plus the forum activity is pretty good. I must consider carefully this purchase.
😊

I've been reading the steam forums for SB2 lately and it seems a fair number of hard bugs and several soft bugs are surfacing. I will probably hold off and keep it under scrutiny for a while. I know a new early access game will have a lot of bugs but when you have to restart very often I get discouraged, but I've done it before and tried to be a voice for feedback.

It's going to be a while before it's ready for prime time. It's great achievement is to show what a one-man shop can do.

I do think "early access" games are a bit of a plague on the industry. I get that a developer needs testers, but in the old days you'd sign up 100 trusted beta testers under NDA to help you finish a game and work out the bugs.

Agree. I hope the money invested so far allows him to add some help. Some of the words I've seen from the dev forums makes me suspect the ship modelling is being contracted out. Somewhere I recall somebody saying they were waiting on ship interior models for more content. ... I don't know, maybe that's how most projects are executed ??
I know not much about game development so take what I say with a grain of sodium.

This is an entertaining review I found today. I've watched a lot of vids on SB2. this one was a bit different

Edit
This video (the last half mostly) has a good overall description of a lot of simple basic topics I've had problems finding answers to.
It says you can fly to any place on a planet and explore (I have not found anything definitive about this)
It does remind us the game has bugs (but the reviewer seems to like it anyway with the things that do work)

and his last sentence is epic imho

Drew Wagar started playing this game, so I'm going to watch his videos and see if I might like it. I enjoy Drew's laid-back "just trying to figure this out" approach to space games. I just want to be careful of spoilers.

A view from a trading station; EV action; planet side w/hover bike and desert city; and a view of the planet I was testing out the hover bike.

The game is on the low end of the graphics scale in today's gaming world and is immersion-breaking at times. Animations are jerky and much less refined than other recent games but most of what I've done so far (exploring, mining and a few combat episodes), the graphics have not been too bad. I jumped out of a mission I was on a few hours ago to explore. Missions are not my focus atm, so I can't comment on that yet. I'm going to visits some more planets and go sell a bunch of gold I mined (w/hand laser) to save up for a better ship. that's all for now GL HF Commanders

Those graphics look fine by me. While I dream of fully ray-traced shadows, lighting, and reflections someday, I can easily live with 2010-2020 era graphics for most games I play. NMS is a bit too cartoony for my liking, as is EGS (though EGS has greatly improved since it first launched), but those screenshots of yours look as good as, if not better than, X4 Foundations, which I find acceptable for immersive gameplay.

I agree. I was kinda playing to the audience with the graphics comment. :)
As long as the game-play is fun and movement is smooth, graphics are not a big deal with me (sorta). I play a lot of older games.

How's development speed of this game? You folks who have been playing for awhile, are updates coming fast and furious, or slow and steady, or sluggish and slacking?

Since I've been involved with it, there's a reasonable cadence to the patches and updates considering the small size of dev team. They've just announced professional MOCAP and voice acting for an upcoming patch as well as the usual expansions/improvements.

It's well worth a look. For an early access title, it has more to do in it gameplay wise than practically all of the alternatives on offer...SC or ED in particular. There are bugs and glitches, sure...but it's early access used properly with most of the core functions of the game already built in and operating 🤷‍♂️

A view from another planet. (just ignore the floating bushes and boulders - from a distance not so bad but up close ?)
I'll find a more interesting planet to post a pic of next time.
And a ring station with a closeup.

I finally activated my steam account to allow forum posts. My 1st there ... about wild fluctuations in ship prices fwiw

The focus so far has been on mining. It took me around 11 or 12 excursions to mine gold by hand laser to get enough to buy the lowest level mining ship. I've already tripled my yield with the basic mining ship after the first asteroid. Profits will be more than that since now I can scan asteroids and pick the most profitable minerals (gold, platinum, and a couple of strange named rocks, Wolfram and Asortak which I have not mined yet).

So far all my mining has been with asteroids but I'm planning on a planet mining expedition next.
A few new pics
Have a nice day
