But I suspect the fact is not yet officially confirmed nor deny simply means the actual situation is just not a binary straightforward scenario. The answer may be complex or have nuances that can not just be conveyed in a simple yes or no, unlike VR or bases.
Maybe they're still trying to make it work? hoping they don't have to say, 'not at launch' (alongside an atmospheric flight model).

From a pure PR perspective I would imagine it can be more effective and less damaging to give all bad news in one go (within reasonable limits). This helps minimising the negative impact not only in absolute terms (some negative reactions are shared across topics) but also in time: You get it done with and move on with the positive stuff instead of having a new reputational hit down the line.

Not an absolute or guaranteed rule of course and this can always be an exception here. But I suspect the fact is not yet officially confirmed nor denied simply means the actual situation is just not a binary straightforward scenario. I still believe that ship interiors will be cosmetics and you will get the change to buy them on the Frontier Store with ARX. That's probably the reason they are avoiding any discussion about it and it would also save them from adding any type of additional gameplay.

Is that going to be walking only on planets without atmosphere?

Quite disappointing if I can't walk inside my sidey or vulture, but I can live without that.

It's both a bit sad and comical that they are hyping up that "Armstrong moment" and mention it a dozen times when all we'll probably get is a fade to black. 🤷‍♂️
I would hope the minimum would be fade-to-black and appear in the airlock, so we can do the “Okay. Neil, we can see you coming down the ladder now” thing.

Otherwise it’ll feel like, “it’s one small step...oh, I’m already there.”

Make sure you say "Good luck Mr Goresky" as you teleport to outside your ship :p

It's also comical how they defined this Dev Diary chapter: "ONE GIANT LEAP"
That's ONE GIANT LEAP in the wrong direction!

It's a possibility, yes. Still, no real reason to keep it a secret. For me, it would make zero difference on my purchasing decision. I'm buying it, regardless.

I don't want legs I want this with guns.

I foresee the same animation you get when entering your SRV (which needs a light on the turret badly) when going walkabout on a planet surface.

Fade to black then appear on the mag lift/cargo scoop dropping to the surface.
They can't mess that up, can they?

I honestly don't care all that much about not being able to walk around my ships' interiors, and I don't really care about any FPS aspects being added in (If I want FPS, I'll play CoD or something else like it).

I just want some new gameplay (new mission types that aren't just a variation of what we have now), or expanded/improved galmap functions, Community Goals, the return of GalNet, etc. Spacelegs on planetary surfaces (even if we can't do it on Earth-likes, which of course is what everyone REALLY wants) is fine, but if that's all it is then... well, I'll be disappointed.

Same here: sure I'd love to freely move around but I bet it'd get old very fast and I don't want to lose 5mn of playtime just for leaving my ship (yeah they could make this skippable but then is it worth the dev/artists efforts?)

I also don't get what and how fun and engaging gameplay could be implemented inside our ships. No, maintenance on panels, critters hunting won't be fun and engaging. Sure you can think of ship boarding, yet I don't see it coming in the near future and that would mean only 1 aspect: shooter, and I don't think FDEV would be able to compete with shoot focused games.

I'd prefer they implement legs and EVA in derelicts, alien ruins, on stations or bases (the "new social spaces where they can meet and interact with other each other in first person" mentioned in interviews)

All in all I hope space legs won't be too much "shooter" focused... Less FPS, more immersive sim. The specimen analysis tool reminds me of Subnautica and it colors me happy.

All I gotta say on this is you are all bonkers if you believe that you cant walk in your ship.. Know way will they release this with out that but dont ask for much out of it when you land you will walk to door and exit if you want to deploy your srv you will walk to the bay enter srv ect you just wont have much to do in the ship on release

I posted this in another thread, but it seems more relevant for here. I contacted Charlie Hall the author of the Polygon article on Odyssey, and asked for clarification on ship interiors and the animal references. This was his reply:

We’ve adjusted the mention of animals in the original story. The ship interiors bit remains valid. - Charlie Hall

Very interesting indeed. Thanks Ant o7

Maybe it's possible they have been slowly working on ship interiors since years ago, at least partially, and intend to release these assets when it's ready within a year or two? I wouldn't expect high def though, perhaps like our bridges and cockpits? Sort of medium definition graphics, like the exteriors of our ships.

I still don't see the logic in it though, unless they can come up with compelling gameplay ideas that add significantly to the game, I feel it would be a waste of developers time and FDevs money and we will all get bored of it rather quickly.

There's no gameplay in walking around inside our ships, just lots of pointless 3d modelling work for the devs. If you want to walk around inside your ship I recommend playing Star Citizen.

boarding? sabotage? investigating derelicts? just hanging around there with your crew? brew coffee?

if there is no gameplay it's because frontier doesn't create the right conditions for it, not because some scenarios are more convenient than others.

I'm just going by how the game works at the moment. I don't expect anything radically different from the developers based on what I've seen so far. They have made a game that is mainly based on procedural planet generation technology. That's their trick.

I don't expect a clone of what Star Citizen has been promising all these years, not on FD's budget. Remember we would need dedicated servers for up to 16 players for decent quality multiplayer FPS. What we have right now, and I doubt this will change is the cheaper to run P2P networking system where 4 v 4 is about the optimum number of players for an instance and if some of those players are on the other side of the world, well if you've had this experience you would know what the problems are. It's difficult to get more than 8 players into an instance and when you do the lag is appauling. You can already investigate a derelict, in space and on the ground. We will probably be able to hang around with our crew at formal meeting places on standard planetery bases and outposts in Odyssey, going by the concept art. Maybe the buildings will be procedurally generated as well for more variety.

But how do you propose to board another ship? Commit sabotage? How would these activities play out? These are questions which are difficult to answer and it's all just theorycrafting with nothing concrete as far as I can see.

I think we just need to be realistic in our expectations. We can't rule out ship interiors completely, but personally my opinion is it's going to be unlikely and I base my assumptions on observation of this and other games.
