Spent $2000 on hardware upgrade to play ED:Odyssey.

Since Steam would not load Odyssey expansion on my old PC rig, I played Horizons for a year.. Now that prices for PC parts are finally within reason, I built a new AMD 5600X rig with Nvidea 3070 card and successfully loaded Odyssey. Even though I did not expect much, I am still underwhelmed. If I wanted to play a first person shooter, I would have bought a console and played Battlefield. The very marginal on foot game play that I have experienced so far is tedious and has so much down side that it is unpalatable. What is the point of doing missions that result in getting wanted and insta-killed. No narrative.. No compelling reason to do them.. and No interest in on foot combat. FDEV.. what exactly was the point? You could have sent some development money to allow pilots to walk around there ships without all this first person shooter crap.. Do we need them shooting up settlements to grind mats for a lame expansion to a video game.

If you upgraded just to go shooting that was probably a bad ides, it's been said time and again EDO isn't a AAA first person shooter and never will be, now I suggest purchasing a AAA FPS and playing that to get your shotting kicks and play EDO for the space game experience, because that's what it is.

It's better once you get a feel for it. You can do all the stuff without getting insta-killed. As long as you don't injure anybody you won't get wanted either. If you're seen stealing stuff or tampering with stuff, you will get fines or possibly a bounty depending on what it is you did. You can even complete missions with the settlement hostile to you. You can just keep sneaking around and then get it done.

But yeah Odyssey isn't any kind of $2000 game that is for sure. But then no game is.

Gpu not good enough, you should have waited until next gen 40 series arrives. Its going to be here before Christmas

Well I agree. In this world there's already too much violence. FDEV created an entire galaxy for what? To bring additional violence on a pc game? They've alway mostly focused on pew pew than peaceful exploration gameplay. Why do they feel the urge to put a gun in our hands and make a criminal out of us?
Did the VR headset make you accidentally walk into walls a couple of times too many? Please game responsibly and safely.

I spent 2300 on a gamin laptop* (but got back 600 from my older laptop) so all in all 1700€. But i could afford it (i have a zero interest credit card that i can use if for monthly payments - depending on store, 6 to 18 months - and this card is mostly used on this kind of stuff)

While Elite is the main game i play, i didnt do it only for Elite.
I can play basically anything else.
Or, the laptop begin powerful enough, i can use it to play lesser games or to do normal stuff in whisper mode (no fans, passive cooling - temps never exceeding 60°C)
🤷‍♂️

*(Ryzen 9 5900hx, RTX3080/16gb, 32gb ram, 2x1tb ssd - strong enough to allow me to dual-log 2 Odyssey instances with no sweat)

Me - upgraded PC and I am happy. Upgraded because of Odyssey.
More and more people upgrading their PC's to play Odyssey

Well, you would like to hope that this thread didn't come about because they spent that amount of money just for an add-on to one game that they hadn't looked into enough to be sure they'd like it or not.

I'm sure that's not the case, but you don't know sometimes.

But yeah, the reason I'll be upgrading my PC actually having the space to have it properly set up now and all the other games that'll be available too.

Yeah, I think there might have been a little bit of feedback available about how Odyssey has worked out, so you should have been able to get a pretty good idea of what you were getting into before sinking $2k into upgrading your pc. FWIW I am happy enough with Odyssey (r5600x/3080) and am slowing working out the best way to play without ending up too frustrated.

It sounds like you spent $2000 just to play one game without doing any research.
Some folk have more money than sense.

Laughs in Star Citizen....

LOL. I'm not willing to spend $20 on Odyssey, and here OP spent $2000 on Odyssey only to find out after-the-fact that it's not what he wanted. That's a hundred grumpy ducks worth of Odyssey!

It's kinda funny, admit it 🤣
