Spring 2022 dlc

A branch (dev_release_branch) on Steam database just got updated 6 minutes ago for the first time in 3 weeks… looks like something is coming on the horizon… I think @Doran shared when these have kicked in in the past this signifies the next stage moving towards launch of something. Also it’s 11am here in the UK so they’re working late… to meet a deadline? 🧐

Alright I guess I'll throw my 2 cents at this speculation...

March 17 (Thursday) - Update Special Feature Reveal (plz variable exhibit sizes!🤞)

March 23 (Next Wednesday) - Update 1.9 Announcement

March 24 (That Thursday) - Central American Animal Pack Reveal (I really like @darthquell's idea! I'm on board!)

March 25-April 3 - Animal Reveals (with a few days off for polls, voting, etc. I really hope they do something like the N.A. Animal Pack reveals with the roadmap!)

April 4 - Developer Journal

April 5 - Update 1.9 and Central American Animal Pack Release

With the animal pack, just give me a collared peccary and a white-nosed coati and I'm good. I'm down with the Central America Animal Pack idea because I'm all in with the North American animals, with mods of course (50 N.A. animals!) and I would like to have some more official N.A. animals that stretch into the U.S. Sidenote: Yes I know that Central America is technically N.A. but I'm focusing on the Neartic Bio Realm, which only stretches into Northern Mexico. Anyway, I've gone off on a too much of a tangent. DLC hype season!

Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly... Which means we're getting the bluebird pack, featuring bluebirds and blue jays and little blue penguins and finally a blue-and-yellow macaw😝

I forgot about the peccary😂. Nice call

See I would love that. And for building pieces I am thinking feathers, skins, tusks, bones and complete skeleton

Things to add to education areas.

Plus skeleton and bones would look great in carnivore areas
I'd like these pieces, but they might be a little morbid for the conservation theme... but yeah, small display pieces like this would be great!

Why are bones morbid?

When was the last time you were eating chicken wings and said to yourself "this is just morbid".

More like this is just delicious 😋

Sure, from a chicken. But dead animal parts (IMO) are more than a little grim for a generally fairly lighthearted game, and I say this as an avid meat-eater whose family home was filled with hunting trophies. I'd like to see it because it adds realism to be able to build displays with them, but it feels a bit tonally odd for the game to allow players to buy dead animal parts for display.

So here’s a fun story, the North Carolina zoo used to have a polar bear named Willie back in the day. I think I first saw him in 09? Anyway I wasn’t able to go back for a few years. Then in 2018 me and my buddy took our girlfriends so everyone could meet each other and have a fun zoo day.

Well we get to the polar bear exhibit and as we’re watching the bears do their thing I see a display with some polar bear fur and a skull. I’m chatting with the keeper at the display and I mention it’s good to see Willie again and she informs me he had actually passed away a few years back. A little bummed I ask what they ended up doing with his body, cause I’d always been curious if they had a little cemetery or cremated them. She awkwardly gesture to the table and informs me that the skull and fur were none other than Willie’s! How’s that for morbid? 🤣

Wow! I mean, it's certainly pragmatic :p... I'd love to be able to make a display like that

Capybaras don't live in Central America. I'd certainly like to see more Mesoamerican animals (to name a few that weren't brought up--ocellated turkey, white ibis, red-footed tortoise) but I suspect there would be the problem of none of them making a good "star".
You could make a fringe case that lesser capybaras aren't a distinct species and thus have capybaras proper in Eastern Panama. But yeah, capybaras are extremely unrepresentative of Central American wildlife. That'd be as dumb as putting a Central American tree frog in a South America Pack.

wait a second...

I actually love idea of Central American pack floating around this days. You could make a strong animal pack from that region only.

Not only that but if pack like that would include coatis, ocelots, and at least two monkey species ( say Mexican spider and Howler ) that would free up so much space for some future SA animal pack.

With a bunch of tropical animals taken care of in CA pack, SA would have more space to include more non-tropical animals ( Andean Bear, Greater Rhea, Tegu, Maned Wolf, Mara...) plus of course Capybaras, Sloths and whatnot

I'm hoping for an endangered species animal pack, but I think it's going to be a tropical animal pack.
Me, too. Out of all the available options (aside from birds), Endangered Species is definitely my top want. It would include a good mix of species from around the world.

Edit: I somehow didn't realise that this was a post from the first page. 😅

I don’t think Central America animal pack is such a great idea because we still miss too much species from the southern part of the continent that won’t probably be revisited again. The number of DLC’s left is limited unfortunately.

I would be much more satisfied with Pan American or Latin American animal pack:
1. Capybara
2. Maned wolf
3. Sloth
4. Howler monkey
5. SA coati
6. Spectacled bear
7. Caribbean manatee or armadillo or peccary

In my opinion first 5 species is just a must have to finally create South American section of our zoos that actually make sense.
I still have some spieces that I miss from NA but SA is so underrepresented that we need to balance that somehow.

I would also be very content with Tropical animal pack bringing species from many different continents:
1. Capybara
2. Lar gibbon
3. Maned wolf or Fossa
4. Red river hog
5. Howler monkey or Mantled guereza
6. SA coati
7. Tree kangaroo

Unpopular opinion: I wish to have black rhino either in an endangered species pack or a new Africa pack...
