Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

On a different point of discussion, do people actually need the Coati? Like if we get a Finale pack with SA species that aren't the coati, would people not like that or be unbothered because its still more SA animals? Same question for the Secretary bird, if we get another habitat bird from Africa would people really miss the Secretary?
I could live without the secretary bird but I really want the coati. Why? I have no idea.

I posted this earlier for a potential finale pack roster, not including both the Secretary and Coati, but it has 4 other SA animals and a different African bird. Would this be ideal?

12 animals, 2 asia, 4 africa, 4 SA, 1 NA/SA, and 1 AU. Has a petting zoo animal, 5 birds, 2 exhibit animals, 2 primates, this seems realistic to me idk. It has 6 clones, an exhibit animal which really dont move, 3 that would be based off other animals with some work, and 2 new rigs (Macaw and Spider Monkey).
I do want the coati, besides a larger monkey its the most needed animal for SA imo. The secretary was never a top priority animal to me, so i can look past it not being included, especially when there is the much more usefull/versatile duck and pelican instead with the crane on top.
But if this was the final DLC i would be content, well as content as you can be with the end of support i guess :D

I don’t need the Coati but still want it. Overall a pretty good pack although I would definitely swap the Musk Deer for the Muntjac.

Yes i need the coati. But i also need the rhea, mara and howler as much as the coati. Now will i be ok with either coati? Honestly no, the one i need is the southamerican one not the white nosed one, but i'll take either rather than none at all.

Do i need the secretary bird? No, i can love without it but i would love to get it since is one of my favorite birds. That said i think the crowned crane would be a lot more useful

I personally don't get the appeal, it looks like a red panda or raccoon from South America to me. Its adorable and I would love to get it, but its not something I'm dying for. I would rather other SA species like the mara, golden tamarin, andean bear or spider monkey, but tbf I've never seen one irl and I'm not the biggest fan of building for these types of creatures (red pandas, binturong, raccoons, etc). It is pretty cute though I admit.

The appeal to me is that:
1. Is an iconic animal from a very popular tourist hotspot of my country
2. Is common in zoos here
3. I've seen them and interacted with them both in the wild and in captivity
4. They are cute and pretty unique (i'm sorry but they look nothing like raccoons although i guess they are somewhat the equivalent to them just not urban animals)

Coatis is really appealing to me for several reasons. Obviously its cute but thats just a cherry on top for me.
As paradoxical as it sounds SA currently has a SEVERE lack of arboreal animals, its really only the capuchin (and the jaguar i guess but does that count?), so another smallish animal would really help here, hopefully accompanied by another monkey.
Besides that its arguably the SA animal missing that the largest amount of people would recognise and its really common in zoos. Also its suitable for alot of fun cohabitations, besides the rather obvious options of mixing them with the usual tapir, monkeys and co i have also seen them kept together with spectaled bears.

But i guess everybody got their own taste, because i really dont see the appeal of the spec bear :D

I like coatis, and I agree that South America needs at least 1 non-primate arboreal thing (I would also at least add the tamandua) on top of the desperately-needed monkeys.

That said, I had never heard of one until I got to the forums. Over the following year in a half, I observed several in zoos, but I didn't remember them before. Are they a newly popular zoo animal, or have they been there the whole time?

Definetly not new arrivials. The SA coati is even phased out of captivity in some places in favor of white nosed coatis.

Well i guess it maybe depends on where you are, but where i am they are a common sight and have been for a while i think

Yeah they're fairly common in zoos - not any particular species but over all. They've been hovering in my top 20, top 10 and now top 5 wants so I really do hope we get them. On the plus side, if there's a dedicated Latin America pack they would likely be the or one of the animals that takes most of the resources, the other potentials there a primate or the Brazilian Porcupine. The last of which I see as a longshot. Interestingly they're all arboreal animals and the point about not really having much representation there for SA is a really good observation.

Ideally, I'd like a Howler Monkey, which would be of medium work I'd think, probably the same level of work as the Proboscis Monkey - but much more appreciated, a Squirrel Monkey which is very similar to the Capuchian, as well as a Coati.

The SA Coati feels like a must for me not only because is a animal that i live with (They sometimes show up on my grandpa farm to steal eggs) but because is one of that animals that is incredibly versatile, Tropical houses, petting zoos, savannah SA habitats, tropical habitats, walkabout habitats, mixed with other animals and many more, while also being fairly popular in captivity.
As a bonus, it's really cute

For me the coati is the very last animal that should have been in the base roster that is still missing. I've never visited a zoo where there weren't coatis.

or the Brazilian Porcupine.
Perhaps the most far fetched request out there but yet, it would be so worth it. I want this one just as much as a spider monkey.

If we did get a LA pack and there was no time / work restrictions, my roster would be
  • Brazilian Porcupine
  • Spider Monkey
  • Golden Lion Tamarin
  • White Faced Saki
A very odd roster, but this would be the best of any pack for me.

I've posted this thread in suggestions because that is where it fits best, but there are definitely fewer eyes over there. So, in an effort to put together a well-rounded list in hopes that we'll get a few small changes made before the end of support, I'm sharing it here too. I'd love everyone's input!
