Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Frontier has two successful PC games coming to consoles before the end of this financial year. The first of these was confirmed on 16 January, with Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters announced for release on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation®4 and Xbox One on 20 February 2024. The second PC game coming to consoles will be announced in the next few weeks.

Guess what they are talking about.

Sort of selfishly 🤞 it's NOT PZ. If it's PZ, doesn't that mean supports probably ending?

Why Would They Stop Making Dlcs For Planet Zoo, Their Most Profitable Game. It Could Just Be Either F1 Manager 2023 or JWE2 Going On The Switch/Switch 2.

If their console port announcement is JWE2 getting on the switch instead of PZ getting to consoles that would be pretty hilarious. But honestly given the success of Planet Zoo I still expect it to be the one that's being ported. Might also be related to the later franchise issues too?

If its planet zoo, support is near guaranteed wrapping up. Although there is a chance for support to be development alongside both, frontier is obviously needing the console profit boost to help sales. If I remember, the port over to the mac needed a complete product rather than consoles so not all hope is lost.

In the new report have they mentioned future DLCs? I’m gonna guess support could be ending much sooner than I hoped, or Frontier is gonna use the console boost to release more dlc. I remember last year they said they would continue to support the game, obviously things can change.

Ideal scenario if the new PC to console game is PZ then we get a console port AND multi platform DLC going forwards.

I've looked into it, the only Frontier games not on console are:
Planet Zoo
Great War RTS game

Knowing that they closed foundry and the great war game flopped, it seems they are talking about PZ

They could still potentially release a console version in March and continue with usual PZ dlc in April

The only mention of dlc is stating the success of jwe2 and planet zoo was supported with free updates and paid dlc, apart from that, nothing.

All signs point to the console port being Planet Zoo based on the phrasing. I'll be really curious to see if they cease development and PDLC fully or if they continue with multiplatform DLC... Because I don't think we have an example for that yet? PlanCo came quite a while after support ended and the JWE games were released on consoles from the jump.

Hoping they go for the latter, even if the updates are very slim and there's only a few more DLC packs ahead (e.g., until end of year). If it's the former and they're announcing in a few weeks I do wonder if we might get two more DLC before the game drops.

I think we might get dlc, I think one of the biggest difference between Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo is
1. Planet Zoo is Frontier most played game, and if it goes to consoles that will increase by a wider margin
2. Planet Zoo is still “good” financially

I can imagine less DLCs come out, but who knows. Maybe they have a big dlc to tie in with console release and more down the line.

Actually imagine if it’s just a new and improved version coming to Console, I don’t think it will but it would be funny lol.

Aviaries and aquariums coming to console, pc players left with a swan and a couple penguins!

It all depends on where they want to apply their internal resources. They may need to shift people to new games, etc. While PZ is still doing well, it's entirely feasible that whatever new game they have in the works might do just as well. (And in fact, there's a strong argument for that because you'd have a glut of new people buying the new game plus whatever DLC is in the pipeline -- and you'd still have folks buying the existing Planet Zoo library as time goes on.)

My ideal would be for them to continue with DLC and support (maybe dropping DLC for PC with a console release a few months later) for a little while longer (e.g., end of 2024). But I have a feeling we might be down to just 1-2 more DLC...

We'll probably get some more hints as to the direction things are headed if/when they announce the console. It would make sense to note if further DLC support would be coming when announcing the console edition.

Is it harder to make DLCs or something after a console release? Asking because I actually do not understand why that would mean the end of DLCs.
I don't know either but... I'd imagine it's more work. I'm just not sure how much work it might be. Hah.

Im no expert on this topic, but id assume its a little more work to be done so it also works on console. But you have the advantage of offering it to more potential customers, which should be a net positive i guess.
Obviously this assumes that you can transfer animals and scenery from pc to console without much trouble, which to my knowledge is possible when both version run on the same engine. Which i would assume they do, otherwise they would have to recreate PZ essentially from scratch to release it on console.

It's most likely going to be the same engine, probably why frontier said before that older gen consoles were not going to be able to run the game but efforts were being directed into the newer gen. Its far easier to optimise a few dlcs to run on consoles than rewriting the game from scratch.

Where they said about this new console port?
Question: planet coaster got new updates when console version was released?
btw: New patch incoming?
