Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

When do you think we can expect the Spring DLC? Counting average numbers of days between DLCs, which is about 120,
we could expect the next DLC at the begining of April?

I think the planet zoo player base vastly prefers YouTube for the streams, which is why it seems so low compared to now. The much larger Elite dangerous playerbase and all the gift drop stuff seems to overpower any numbers in the past.
This. You have to look at them both to really gauge... The YouTube video for today's stream already has 1.9k views already.
Forgive me being darft, but that's sarcasm, right?
That is most assuredly sarcasm on my part. Haha. The chat was loaded with people reminding Frontier that Elite is the reason Frontier exists, that they should hurry up the zoo stuff, etc.

The usual date for the spring dlc was always the week before easter. Allthough this year that time is taken up by the console release, so either the console release and the DLC will come out together or the DLC will be pushed back to let the console edition have the spotlight to its own. Which one of that its gonna be? Idk the later is probably more likely

lol those elite bozos maybe should check the financial returns if they want to play that tune

Dropping some DLC info about console in the stream. At launch they're releasing the North American animal and European scenery packs (both as a bundle and separately).

Not the combo I had expected, nor was I expecting either of those to be released on launch day but... Interesting.
makes more sense in the context of how heavy the red deer was promoted in the console trailer.
Dont ask me why they did it, but the 3 areas they focused on where africa, asia and europe, so having some european or atleast temperate animals to release makes alot of sense

That must have been those funny dudes who repeaatedly confused their part of the forum with ours back in the day 😂
I have no doubt ED gave Frontier a boost as a company back then, but the gate keeping is a bit absurd to say the least.
But thank you for filling me in, there is no way I could have imagined that scenario.

The logical thing is to think that the next DLC, seeing what they have with the other previous ones, is that it will come out the 1st or 2nd week following the release of the game on consoles

At least they have done it this way until now:

1) South America DLC ---- April 7
2) South East Asia Animal Pack ------ March 30
3) Wetlands Animal Pack ------- April 12
4) Tropical DLC ---- April 4

Right, because they would rather say "preorder to get these animals which are not exclusive because you can get them later anyway" surely is something that will make people preorder the game more.
It does mean frontier is planning to release the season pass seperately which the thread topic of will the season pass be available after launch was asking. The wording of both the season pass and preorder animals don't hint to any of them being available later including on the store pages. Lots of people are jumping to conclusions and getting upset thinking these are preorder exclusive animals.
Overwhelming doesn't help of course, but handwaving the risk away also doesn't help inform a decision. (Granted having had some skin in the game also has me weighted towards the risks, the extremity of outcomes being: having spent too much unnecessarily vs. permanently losing out on 3 species)

As far as I'm aware (though I'd be happy with one example), Frontier isn't really in the habit of actively deceiving customers (omitting info and overhyping with speculation on future updates sure, but outright misguiding people in plain text, I'm not sure on that), if they were purchasable after Launch, I would think Frontier might be legally vulnerable (not that anyone would take action), as it would be a false time limit informing at least some purchases.

Assumedly, pre-orders are something they'll want to keep doing with future games, so it also reduces the impact of future bonuses if it just becomes a launch DLC. It'd have to be at least a year or so down the line to retain some impact (though again, never seen again has been every time so far).

I'm curious as to the actual value of the three species, do they have unique animations, or are they basically the same as their base game counterparts outside of the model and size?

The wording on the original PC Planet Zoo pre-order seems quite different, only beta access itself seems to be framed as a pre-order exclusive. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/release-date-and-pre-order-announcement.514410/

Well the value of these species is very subjective, if any of them are your favorite or you really like them it sucks to not have them, while if you dont really care about them youre not missing much imo.
Objectively the gazelle and the komodo dragon do have a close ish alternatives to them in the base game in form of the nile monitor and springbok, aswell as 1 far superior alternative (in terms of quality) in the later DLC, the dama gazelle and asian water monitor. So its not like youll end up without any gazelles and monitor lizards at all if you miss these 2.
The pygmy hippo is probably the most unique among these 3, but even here there is the common hippo thats sorta similar, just 5 times the size lol. I guess you also have the tapirs as medium sized, pudgy, semi aquatic herbivores.

Edit: Oh, as for the animations the gazelle and dragon are the exact same as the springbok and nile monitor, just with a different skin.
The pygmy hippo i think has some tweaked animations tho, but not 100% sure on that one

I'm surprised that there's no DLC activity on SteamDB yet, so close to Easter.

All of the other Spring (Autumn for those of use here in the Southern Hemisphere) packs have released the week before Easter, so players could make use of their Easter break to play the game:

1) South America DLC released April 7 2020, Easter on April 12
2) South East Asia Animal Pack released March 30 2021, Easter on April 4
3) Wetlands Animal Pack released April 12 2022, Easter on April 17
4) Tropical DLC released April 4 2023, Easter on April 9

Following the pattern, the new pack should release March 26, with Easter on March 31. If SteamDB activity usually starts 4 weeks prior, that should have happened on 27th Feb, but the only files being worked on then were dev_release_trunk and dev_final_trunk (I was excited until someone here pointed out that those are not DLC related files).

We're watching for the quality assurance files to be updated - apparently 4-5 weeks before release. If they get updated this week, that would bring release to either 2nd or 9th of April.

Maybe you guys are right and the console release will stand alone, with DLC announced and released after Easter break. It would be a real shame if that was the case, because having the public holidays to play new DLC is always such a great time!

How did you get this number? I can at least think of Thomson's gazelle, springbok, and dama gazelle. Maybe tons was the wrong word but either way, there's good enough substitutes.
The only really good substitute for the Thomson's gazelle would be the springbok, if wanting a more arid environment then the dama is better. That's pretty much all there is. Small antelopes are not a strong point in the vast amount of ungulates we have.

Damas gazelles is significantly larger and far from what i would define as a small antelope.
Pretty much average if not slightly above.

The next smallest one would be the Addax after the springbock and the thompson and the fact you didnt even mentioned it says alot about how small it is

Though I'm not sure if having an oddball animal in the last DLC would actually be a good idea.
I think that’s dependent on the size/ topic for the final dlc, and if Charlie’s theory is right if we get two more dlc.

Part of me feels like Frontier will include as many wanted animals as possible, another part of me feels like they are saving things for a sequel.
