Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

I'm not saying I actively prioritize these 4 (although I would love any of them), I just don't agree with comparing them with ungulates because even though we may get more than usual compared to other groups, cats and canines are always in some way different than what we already have whereas ungulates we already have so many that are so similar.

I have more of the problem that like 80% of the african animals i want are neither ungulates or carnivorans. Which in all likeliness will take up like 5-6 seats on the animal pack

EDIT: On second thought that is true for all of my wanted animals, not just african ones. Sad monke and birb enjoyer noises
I can understand that take. Aside from the Spectacled Bear, I'm not really craving any particular carnivores, even canines and mustelids which are my two favorite groups of carnivores. Sure, a few are on my list and I make suggestions for them here and there ; same as the Ocelot which I kind of put in a Latin pack by default. For ungulates, the Masai Giraffe, Markhor, HimalayanTahr, Blackbuck and Muskox are the only ones that I could say I actually want at this point. I had other ungulate wants but I've pretty much felt they've been negated.

The main of my list of mammals alone is more focused on primates, rodents and marsupials. And then there's the birds, who we cannot forget.

I think the planet zoo player base vastly prefers YouTube for the streams, which is why it seems so low compared to now. The much larger Elite dangerous playerbase and all the gift drop stuff seems to overpower any numbers in the past.
this is 100% the case planet zoo attracts a very different set of people to elite dangerous.
Ngl, but the console edition is drawing itself as a way worse version compared to PC so far:

Less animals if you don't make pre-order (and the fact this exist to begin with).
Controls are significantly worse.
Will be more expensive in countries like mine.

I already feel really bad for console players.
we have no idea if the controls are worse especially for console players who actually know how to use a controller.
but yes I agree so far the console addition is going to have 3 pre order locked animals, be more expensive and have limitations on animal count and build size so seemingly a worse version then pc.
I'm curious as to the actual value of the three species, do they have unique animations, or are they basically the same as their base game counterparts outside of the model and size?
thompson gazelle is not worth anything it is essentially just a reskin in every way of the springbok the look extremely similar and have the exact same ingame stats. The other 2 however are still some of the most unique animals in game whilst yes the komodo dragons model is very similar to the monitor it is the only non aquatic lizard we have at all and the limited number of reptiles we have total makes it important. The pygmy hippo is basically just a smaller and more useable hippo unique as there are only 2 animals in the hippo family and they have an entirely unique method of movement in the water.
I never got the negativity towards more carnivores, like I get that other types of species should be focused more but its not like they are extremely similar to eachother like ungulates are. We still have all these beauties left.

The amount of ungulates is definitely a problem that at this point everyone is noticing. Whilst carnivorans are alot more diverse in terms of body plans and niches ranging from seals to cats the biggest issue I have is the lack of everything else the more ungulates and carnivorans are added the more the bird and reptile roster looks pathetic

"It's not like they are extremely similar like ungulates are" proceeds to show what is basically a caracal with spots (wow but it jumps very high right), a small cat but fluffy (as much as I want it, the Pallas cat is just gonna be a fat sand cat clone with maybe the paws-on-tail animation), a sausage dog (no problem with this one except literally every other south american animal is more interesting, popular and wanted) and a fox with extra fluff (surely this one will be just as groundbreaking as the other 3). Seriously, with the exception of the bush dog, yes, by all means these are extremely similar to things we already have.

And you wonder why some of us dislike dog/cat fans, it's not just that you want more of the same, on top of that you genuinely think your picks are more different or unique compared to ungulates when in reality they are just as similar. You are so clueless about your own bias it becomes quite obnoxious, you think the raccoon dog is actually any different from a fox just because it looks fluffy or a serval just because it has spots, when in reality they are no more different than the dromedary is to the bactrian or the wisent to the american bison. Fortunately these animals are the first ones to get ditched from everyone's wishlists, because we all know there are more important and wanted animals that should get into the game and honestly I hope Frontier thinks so too.

Also where's the ocelot? that one has more chances than any of the ones you posted.

Carnivores. Right. I do want more of them. I don't care how similar the could be or not to something else we have ingame. Birds take priority of course but there are still a bunch a carnivores in My wishlist that i Will be happy with if they are included in DLCs.

Top 3

Coati
Ocelot
Palla's cat

And some i really like: honey badger, african civet, fishing cat, grey Fox, spectacled bear, bush dog, black backed jackal and serval.

Not interested in: tanuki, golden jackal, coyote

Tier 1 - very much want, essential
1. Spectacled Bear
2. Coati mundi (i forgot about them from my earlier post on carnivores, want them very much!

Tier 2: Definitely want but not essential
3. Bat Eared Fox
4. Black backed or Golden Jackal
5. American Black Bear

Tier 3: Not a priority but would be nice to have
6. Honey Badger
7. Eurasian Otter
8. Walrus

Tier 4: wouldn’t be upset at their inclusion but I’m really rounding out 10 and one bonus.
9. Tayra
10. Coyote
11. African Civet

Tier : Accepting this will almost certainly be included if there’s a South/Central America pack but would prefer something else:
12. Ocelot

Tier 6: included only because the community wants it:
13. Raccoon Dog
14. Pallas Cat

If we're talking about carnivores, the top five I would like (and think could add the most to the game) are:

1. Yellow-throated marten (arboreal predator from all major forested environments in East and Southeast Asia)
2. Coati (don't really mind if it is the white-nosed or ring-tailed - either would be good)
3. Brown fur seal (adds a Southern Hemisphere pinniped that is pretty common in captivity, certainly compared to the other options)
4. A terrestrial civet (Owston's is my preferred option, although I definitely wouldn't say no to an African civet either)
5. Ocelot (a smaller cat from the Americas is probably the only cat I think is even halfway necessary, and this is the most popular and widely-kept of them)

I'd also love something like another species of mongoose, and I personally would have very much liked the Eurasian otter, but I would say neither of them are completely necessary.

My list of Carnivora in no order

  1. Walrus
  2. Harbor seal
  3. Bush dog
  4. Pallas Cat
  5. American Black Bear
  6. White nosed coati
  7. Sea otter
Don’t really care for much else, but won’t also object to other animals

(I love all animals, so I shouldn’t say I don’t really care. I just don’t care for them in Planet Zoo)

Alright, here's something to think about:
Would you prefer one last, larger, more focused on community favorites and "essentials", finale pack that also includes scenery OR Planet Zoo has one more full year left of the classic 2 scenery and 2 animal packs formula?

One last bigger pack would be preferable so I don't have to keep uninstalling my mods every 3-4 months

One more year for me, I can’t guarantee how much a final pack could actually give me in terms of animals. It could be 8 animals with scenery. Or just 12-20 animals.

One more year will give us more animals, 10 scenery animals, 16 animal pack animals. Also more building material. And while we dunk on Frontier for their animal choices, I get a feeling we would still technically get more diverse choices with one more year.

I would really prefer the first option. For example, I would like 1000 times more an Aviary Dlc for the last pack than another year of support. I think we had all of the essentials (Except South America, we need at least 1 animal pack for there), so for me the only keystone are the flying birds.

Don't hate me, but carnivorans (especially cats) are probably my favorite. I still think monkeys and birds should be prioritized right now.

What I need, especially the first two:
  1. American Black Bear: I can't really imagine the game complete without my local rainbow bear. They would probably go in every one of my zoos.
  2. Serval: This is just one of my favorite zoo animals. I don't think they would require as much space as the caracal. I love their ears, long legs, spots, and attitude.
  3. Margay (or ocelot): SA needs a small cat. I would slightly prefer the tamarin-hunter that looks like a spotted fossa, but the ocelot has a better range, so I wouldn't mind it.
  4. South American Coati: I'm not personally very attached to this animal, but they are interesting, cute, and I think they would be an excellent addition to the game
  5. Pallas's Cat: If you couldn't tell, I like cats. This one is in memes and would provide a cold-weather tiny cat.
  6. Spectacled bear: We've got to finish the bears. This one adds another big thing for South America.
What I still really want and/or think are important:
  1. Sea Otter: This is a personal favorite and the most unique otter.
  2. Honey Badger: This meme animal has a large range through Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia.
  3. Walrus: This ABC animal is very popular on the forums. I don't personally need it, but it would be a good addition.
  4. Another Canid: The dog people haven't gotten a thing in a while. Jackals, Raccoon Dogs, Bush Dogs, or another fox are all good options.
