Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

I just posted about this but there's certain aspects of zoos that the game hasn't delved deep into simply because of the pack themes. The dream (for me, at least) would be for scenery-only DLC. I can think of at least 10 very viable pack ideas/names off the top of my head that would require minimal research for which you could come up with 100+ pieces easily that would make every player's lives infinitely easier.

...And I don't buy the argument that you can just "use workshop items" or "create things using font pieces" to accomplish these things. We can do that. And it's really, really cool and high-key impressive what people are able to do. But it would be nice to be able to create a parking lot with cars in it that don't have a 2.5k+ piece count, y'know? Nevermind the time involved.
Yeah especially someone like me who plays on a mid-level pc. I have started to only play sandbox so I don’t have to rely on guests and having 2,000+ moving entities on my computer at once. That’s not even mentioning piece count as you said above. Piece count can really restrict me, Planet Zoo isn’t perfectly optimized so the amount of pieces can catch up with me super fast. So the more good looking props I have the better.

The thing is most scenery themes can go really easy with animals.
For example take an urban pack, cars and many usefull street and urban props that you can slap together with a goose/duck, gray hulman, red squirrel/brown rat, possum and some exhibit animal and your golden with a banger scenery pack that conveniently fits some really popular animals with waterfowl, primates, something australian and rodents.
And if in doubt just swap one of them for an ungulate like the white tailed deer or carnivoran like a beech marten and you still got a certified banger
Also as a reminder, the conservation pack in fact exists and now u tell me the overlap of basic gardening tools and agricultural plants and endangerd species.
We got more or less a gardening scenery theme and an endangerd species animal theme bundled together with some random 3d print walls and banger beams and its among the best pack they have released

Like a christmas or halloween theme? :D
Well yeah. That's another reason why i don't like the Twilight pack. Christmas pieces are more useful though and the diference is that these are festivities and zoos do decorate for special ocations. A museum set feels like is part of some other Game. I would like other types of education displays that you do see in zoos so an education pack would Nice.

Thats exactly the type of pieces i imagine in a museum dlc: Skull and skeleton replicas, bird wingspan siluettes, glas display cases and similar stuff. A new font set would also fit in perfectly.
Stuff you can build a musuem area with but also use to create educational display for habitats

I can only speak from an european perspective but calling many zoos a museum light really isnt that wrong though.
Many have displays similar to those of a natural science museum and many even call themself museum.
My hometown aquaria for example has an exhibition about maritine exploration and the consequences of human disturbance of the ocean, as well as multiple taxidermied or fake animals displayed alongside signs explaining concepts like natural selection, ecological overlap or just a sound display.

Zoos, botanical gardens and natural history museums have a significant overlap and it would be pretty great to have a scenery theme dedicated to both

Sometimes its a little surprising how this hasnt been touched on at all, with education being such a big part of Planet Zoos vibe.
I mean the scenery for the pack basicly assembles itself.
Finding a fitting and appealing animal roster might be the harder part here for a change since it usually the other way around.
Although you can take this in multiple directions, going for "living fossils", whacky adaptions or animals with special ties to prominent naturalists like darwin or linnaeus.
Easy, natural history museums often try to showcase the wonders and bizarre of the natural world, you can easily do this in a PZ roster. The muskox as a vestige of the ice age, the almost prehistoric looking shoebill and secretary bird, the walrus with its great tusks, the tuatara as a last member of a once dominant group of reptiles... There's your roster done :)

The challenge, though, is that there aren't really any animal "headliners" for a theme like that. And that's how they've positioned things: The animals are the stars of every pack. Which makes sense.

A pack like that would be a "banger" but the way they've trained the fans to think people would call it a letdown because none of the animals are in particularly high-demand. We went through this already a little bit with the Twilight pack where people just started calling it the "roadkill" pack as far as animal choices go (I disagree, and think that pack has aged really well but I'm talking about the broader player base not myself).

People will allways complain and if you ask me a goose or duck has atleast as much power to be the face of a pack as tassie, lynx, jaguar, sunbear or beaver.

Headliners are a concept the community invented without any merrit.
Its just how people try to gatekeep certain pack idears because they dont allign with their personal idear of whats popular, even if subconciously.
Everything can and cant be a headliner and we should really drop this idear as it really has no value in a discussion

As a extinct animal lover and a sucker for fossils/reconstructions on zoos, a museum dlc with 30 extinct animals fossils would be a dream coming true and definitivelly better than another african pack.

Sustainability supports conservation by reducing pressure on wild animals. Thats it.
Conservation is about more than just animals and, to reflect that, you're in for a real treat with the foliage included in this Pack. Plant-life conservation is critical due to the unfortunate impact of monoculture and the depletion of natural water resources. To highlight this aspect of conservation, we're adding some foliage pieces such as the Tomato Plant, Fig Tree, and Korean Pine! You can also create a haven of sweeping meadow flowers including foliage such as Buttercups, Oxeye Daisies, and Poppies!

Furthermore, you'll gain a range of other scenery items with a strong theme of self-sustainability, such as a set of wooden slat off-grid pieces, a new 3D printed concrete wall set, grass roof tiles, and even backstage display-only items such as a rake, hose, and wheelbarrow!

I really wish we get an “Environmental Pack” a pack that focuses on the environment, not just endangered species, but the environment in general and how grateful we should be that we get to live with these amazing species across the world.

It could be a regular scenery pack with 5 animals and 200 scenery pieces that have lots of iconic foliage like:

Also coming with new scenery for educating the public on the environment like fossils, more insect related stuff, and statues:

As for the animals I’ve chosen species that are all of great importance to their environments, key species.

Golden Lion Tamarin
1710523161535.jpeg

A small cute species but an important one at that; the golden tamarin is responsible for spreading seeds across the rainforest so that it’s environment will continue to grow and thrive.

Goodfellows Tree Kangaroo

Tree kangaroos are crucial for their environment, storing carbon to mitigate climate change as well as spreading seeds and fertilizers to continue the growth of the forest.

Sea Otter

The protectors of the kelp, Sea Otters maintain the stability of the kelp forests by eliminating their main predator, sea urchins.

Tibetan Antelope

These antelope are important to Asia for their services to the vegetation, controlling the growth by eating of course! They also spread the seeds they collect to make sure the vegetation is in a stable position.

Hummingbirds

Hummingbirds in most of their locations are considered the main pollinators, collecting pollen from flower flower. These species will act as Walkthrough Exhibit animals in your zoos.

That’s my take on this whole “museum theme can’t have animals with it” that’s all I got lol

what the hell, it got rid of half my post damn it. Well my animal roster was Tibetan antelope, tree roo, tamarin, hummingbirds and sea otter acting as key species to the environment. I’ll fix it within the next bit.

What would the snubnose say if it saw you suggesting another not in captivity asian antelope

If we get another Asian antelope and its another cold-climate one not kept anywhere I think I'll start believing Frontier just hates the blackbuck. (and yes I know there is one zoo in Kazakhstan that keeps saiga but that really makes 0 difference)
