Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

I've said it before but I'll say it again; given the sheer number of bird species needed to even be a passable representation of a zoo collection, zero is better than one.

Having only one worked for JWE simply because it's based on fiction and the pteranodon is the most famous flying reptile in history. It wouldn't work for PZ. It would just feel weird. "Yes, a zoo where the only aviary bird is...but don't worry, we've got two kinds of bats!"
Just for the doors it would open for the modders, I'm definitely in favor of only one bird rather than none.

Also gonna add this: if modders can make hummingbirds and are starting to get to birds it really makes me wonder what the limitations for Frontier is.
There is no limitation for Frontier. Birds have been deliberately withheld. For what reason, who knows? I'm sure they do, at least.

I don't really care about new species mods, so to me it's a nothing argument.

Edit: In fact it's kind of a poor argument anyway. Modders can only do so much. They made a hummingbird out of the butterfly. There's really nothing stopping someone from making birds out of bats. They'll move exactly like the bats, and sound like them, but that's the same problem you face if Frontier adds a single bird anyway. You just end up with 100 modded birds that all do the exact same thing and make the exact same sounds as whatever Bird Prime happened to be. I can't make believe my way out of a seagull that moves and sounds like a lorikeet.

I mean a seagull that moves and sounds like a lorikeet is still way better than one that moves like a bat, echolocates and hangs upside down from the branches

Buddy, its not 2021 anymore.

Meanwhile the peafowl being our only galliforme since day one:

Kinda crazy that our most unique bird have this status just because it don't swim or is a ratite, lol.

Probably due to the influence of daily viewing, my attention to birds is limited to birds of prey, large wading birds, pheasants and some parrots, toucans and hornbills.
Honestly as much as i wanted flying/exhibit birds, thats very much where my interests were as well. Throw in woodpeckers and the kookaburra for me though. I could still have come up with 30 id have wanted to see just from all those groups. Ah well, we dreamed, but woke up to reality

YO guys! This is my first time visiting this forum since about 2 weeks after the release of the EAP! I saw that an outsource_lqa is on the steam DB, what is everyone thinking? I've been working on my studies and haven't really seen any trends on a potential DLC, the only thing I've seen is the relentless promotion of the Console edition.

Should’ve specified - I mean functionally, not rigging wise.
I think the point was that hummingbirds apperently are really territorial, so you cant have them in large groups.

which kinda makes sense if you think about it. If you have such a high metabolism that you have to be more or less constantly eating to even survive, you cant really tolerate any competion in your area taking your precious resources

We have animal wishlist but what about a list of animals we think we most likely WON'T get? :D
Destroy my dreams, which of these animals you think we won't get in the PlanetZoo and why?
1. Asiatic lion
2. Kiang
3. Red wolf
4. (Wild) rabbit
5. Roe deer
6. Pheasant (ringneck, diamond, peacock...)
7. Grévy's zebra
8. Liger / Tigon
9. Tibetan fox
10. Dwarf gourami
11. Domestic donkey
12. Quagga
13. Dodo
14. Thylacine
15. Waterbuck

The general consensus is on a south america or worldwide wrap up pack. But nothing is been hinted at so far, so it all more or less baseless asumption

I think anything fully aquatic or free flying birds are also off the the table I'm afraid.

Sadly the only other thing I know is that the Community management team is completely different, so I don't know how they're going to publish it. Will we get a special livestream? Will it be nonchalantly announced in one of their new Frontier unlocked streams?

I got to be honest I have no idea. Going off the continental wrap up theme with the last DLCs, the Americas or South America will be the last pack as my best guess. Considering SA does deserve it the most. On the other hand they might do around the world to appease as much people as possible.

While it often isn’t applicable, the community challenge is semi-aquatic theme which could mean anything from: swamps, marshes, rivers like the Amazon, to a coastal pack.

None of them. We might get a pheasant and a rabbit but that is pretty much it. The rest are either extinct (which doesn't make sense to expect for this game), or very low priority.

I dont see any of those as particulary likely, for various reasons. Ive heard Frontier has some kind of restriction from doing anything Dino related due to having the JWE license, which im not sure about if that would include such recent extinctions like dodo and stuff.
Hybrids do have a very cheesey feel about them and completely go against the conservation message Frontier likes to push, so id never expect them.
Aquariums is a thing that i guess is possible, but highly unlikely at this point. Even if i cant really see them going for a dwarf gourami of all things.
The peacock we already got.

The rest are all free game, although since none of them are super highly requested animals i also would count on any of them. But frontier likes to throw in a super oddball from time to time , so who knows.

If i had to name one that i think is the most likely i had to say a pheasant. The golden is somewhat high on the new meta wishlist and the himalayan monal has been mentioned quite often last yeah. Both would be nice picks for a mountain pack, which is one of the more likely packs if we get some more packs this year

Better asking what is actually likely from that list lol. Out of them - rabbit, roe deer, a pheasant, zebra, and domestic donkey have a chance.

I got to be honest, if the final pack contains recently extinct animals I would probably not get it. I would honestly even be a bit upset. I think it would be a cool concept, and I would be happy for those who want it. But I have no desire or use for animals that aren’t here anymore. Sure I think the dodo and thylacine are cool, I just have no desire for them at all.
