Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Great! Time to bring back some of the other arguments!
  1. Petting Zoo animals
  2. Another bear/ cat/ dog/ crocodile
  3. Golden snub nosed monkey
I’m gonna go study for a bit, I expect chaos when I get back!
  1. Petting zoo animals are important for realistic zoo builds, but there are so many farming games if you want to pet goats. The mods for them are decent if you need them for a specific project. I kind of like them but don't need them, and I would only be annoyed with them if Fonteir sold them as the final PDLC or went with the lamest possible options (Hosteins instead of highlands, watusi, or yaks; meat pigs instead of kune-kunes or pot-bellied pigs; fewer than 2 birds; etc.)
  2. Bear/Cat/Crocodile:
    1. There are just two bears left, and they are some of the biggest zoo stars. I don't think they'd even be that much work. I really think the spectacled bear and ABB would be fantastic additions. Most of the high-demand animals are small arboreal species and birds, so they would contrast nicely with other things in packs. The ABB is my only local star that has been my second most-wanted species since launch. I will be very sad if it is excluded. They are super common in captivity and come in every color of human hair: red, blonde, white, brown, black, and even blue-grey.
    2. I personally break felids into five categories of zoo niches: large-sized cats (tiger, lion, jaguar, leopard, snow leopard, clouded leopard, cougar, and cheetah), hyenas, civets/mongooses, meerkats, and small-sized cats. All but the last group have great representation. Big cats are such common zoo stars, you need all at least at the species level and perhaps a subspecies or two would be welcome. I'm happy with that lineup. I need at least one hyena, but two are nice for variety. Civets/mongooses aren't so common in zoos, so I don't need them that much. We already have the popular two, the fossa and binturong. An African and/or palm civet might be nice, but they seem like a lot of work for something not super popular or necessary. Meerkats were an important inclusion. Small-sized cats aren't quite where they ought to be. For mid-sized species, lynxes/bobcats, ocelots, servals, and caracals are super common in zoos. For tiny ones, sand and Pallas's cats seem like the obvious choices from media representation. A fishing cat would be a good oddball, and there are a few other important species, but I definitely think small-sized cats are more lacking than any other type of carnivore, especially when factoring in real-world zoo presence.
    3. Africa sort of needs a croc. I would typically just sub in the saltwater crocodile for the Nile if I want one for African sections, but the real thing would be nice to have. It is nowhere near the top of my wants, but it would be good. The unique West African slender-snouted croc and adorable Chinese alligator would also be good picks, the latter for similar reasons as the monkey below. Chinese alligators are much more common in zoos than the monkey.
  3. Golden Snub-Nosed Monkeys are an important animal for China, which makes up a huge chunk of the playerbase but a small portion of the forum. Even so, they are one of the most popular monkey species here. These monkeys walk on their hind legs to keep their hands warm and live in colder mountains, so they would be pretty unique. They are endangered, and there are captive breeding programs, just not outside of East Asia. I absolutely think we need several new world monkeys (especially tamarins, spider, and howler monkeys), a classic baboon, 1-2 smaller species from Africa, and probably an Indian monkey more for regional/taxonomic rep, but GSNMs are still a super important species. Their popularity and importance for China might make them a higher priority than some of the old world species I listed. They would be very welcome, just please get us some SA monkeys first, so I and others don't go crazy. SA only has one primate to Africa/Madagascar's 7 and Asia's 5.

I Would Not Call 13,000 Years Ago Recent.
13,000 years are a blip in geologic terms, especially when compare to the others animals in the game. I mean heck mammoths were still around when the pyramids were build
PK was supposed to have true recent extinct animals although, in the kickstarter, one of the metas was a recent extinct animals expansion with thylacines, dodos, haast eagles and some others.

Sadly, that meta was never meet, so if those animal will be added or not it's still unknown.

Yeah, even if my most fav paleo animal would be megaloceros, I chose quagga bcs there is already ongoing of re-appearance based on selective breeding of the subspecies, dodo for meme reasons and thylacine bcs it's my friend's favourite and all of of these three animals were still being around us when cameras (video) were invented, so it's not THAT far as paleo animals would be for sure.

We have dodo statue in the game, it would be cool if we could have more statues of recently extinct animals as a part of education in PZ.
Like for example in one of the zoos in my country we have so called "Exctinct animal cemetery" and it's a quiet place with big stones you can put candles around and in the stones there are carvings and labels about recently extinct animals because of humans.

For me, the list looks like this:
1. African goats, ponies, and some rabbits.
2. Spectacled bear, bush dog/ raccoon dog, Asian golden cat, Ocelot, Pallas's Cat and amur Leopard Cat, Chinese Alligator.
3. There is no doubt that the Golden snub nosed monkey is a must-have for me.
