General Squadron Carriers: "squadron artificers/engineers" can build ships 6(and consider suits too) to loan squadron members in the shipyard

Got a suggestion for Vanguards, FDev folks.

First off, tip-top effort on what you're releasing to the player base. The PC Mk2 release, together with the in-quick-succession CG for eng'd cargo racks, is testament to your listening and responding to us all.

So, here goes: an opportunity for ramping up immersion and community spirit via the Squadron Carrier coming up in Vanguards. I've been speaking to vets in my squadron. Seriously consider adding the means for vet commanders with the appropriate (ie higher) permissions to be "squadron artificers", kind of a roving guild of "interstellar master ship-n-suit smiths" that might not come with the first release of the Vanguards feature, but really give it consideration as a post-MVP enhancement if you can't squeeze this into the release. You already have a firm ship building and engineering engine, so this could be a relatively quick win, provided the thought goes into the squadron engineer role on the carrier and the process worked into the squadron engineer-squadron requester relationship. Something to be story boarded.

This could offer vet commanders so inclined to support and nurture junior, fresh-to-the-galaxy commanders, who struggle with engineering. It's also a means for said artificers/engineers to make a living beyond the usual, and bolsters squadron coffers. Squadron artificers/engineers take a cut of the overall prices to build; % to work out based on ship model, size of modules, grade engineered to, etc.

For example, the squadron engineer might take a ship request from a squadron member, such as a CZ Vulture. The "squadron artificer" then could refer to specs put together on EDSY or Coriolis - no integration required I reckon - and build ships that can be loaned out to squadron members only. Also, such squadron built-and-owned ships (and suits potentially) can go some ways to creating a sense of collective ownership and commitment, a true squadron.

So in-short, the means to loan (and sell) ships to squadron members. On selling a ship, if a commander exits a squadron, they lose all rights to those ships crafted for them by the resident shipyard artificers. Squadron artificers must be offered the option to decide whether to sell on ships to squadron members, who are then the whole owners of the ship. If a squadron member decides to leave the squadron, they can, on agreement from the squadron, take that ship with them. Otherwise, the ship stays with the squadron.

Again, consider adding "suit artificers" to the suite (forgiving the pun) of Squadron Carrier facilities.

Plenty to run with there 🙂

Did you perhaps not see the teaser for vanguards where they're doing some form of loaning ships to squadron members through the new squadron mega carriers? Final details are unknown and currently it sounds worthless because we can't engineer the ships which likely means it's easier to give them a recipe and a few hundred mil loan. There is however some form of this feature already coming. Wait for vanguards and see what we get.
