Stance on multiple accounts?

Recently stumbled across "Got banned" video on youtube.

As per usual, OP only receives a automated response from Frontier not disclosing any information and he doesn't know why he got banned permanently from Open Mode and proceeds to permanently delete his 3 CMDR's on his 3 accounts.

At least for me, there are immediately red flags popping up. He says he has a powerful PC and can run all 3 accounts on 3 game clients at the same time. So obviously..

... yes obviously...

... the other accounts (that are holding substantial amounts of credits) have been used to share wing missions or perform exploits to funnel progression for the main account. Therefore providing unfair advantages that a single account owner would be unable to compete with.
Which I personally assume (without evidence) is what got him banned. Even though he claims he only used them to avoid the expensive ship transfers... yeah right. He also claims that no where in the ToS does it directly state that this is a violation... which I kinda have to concur with, was unable to find anything specific myself.

That said, no one in their right mind would do the engineer grind x3, buy 3 copies of Odyssey just to avoid the inconvenience of ship transfers. Much less torture a PC by running 3 clients at the same time. That is just cruel...

However, people in his comment section (part of this community) are very quick to defend him and offer their kind farewells. It is also abundantly clear that this is a video to promote the fault being on Frontiers end. Several other players also come forward in the comment section admitting that they also own several accounts and that it is in fact very common for all CMDR's during or before Horizon to have several accounts.

I disagree, but I could be wrong. So I'd like to probe the community here.

- What is your stance on owning multiple accounts?
- What is Frontiers official stance on owning multiple accounts?
- Do you believe that owning multiple accounts and using them to gain advantages otherwise unavailable is acceptable?
- To those of you that do own multiple accounts... what are you using them for and why?
- To those of you (like me) that only own a single account, have you ever considered getting more accounts and what for?

UPDATE: The reason for the ban, was multi-crewing with alt accounts which Frontier considers a exploits and was supposed to be a 3 day ban. His accounts have been restored.

I got a second Horizons account on sale solely so I could have a "copilot" in the seat next to me as I fly my Cobra, Python, and Orca. It's really an immersion thing, since I play in VR and I love having the "company". I (and many others) begged Frontier to allow NPC crew to sit in these empty chairs, but like other things, I ended up following Thanos' example when Frontier ignored us - "Fine, I'll do it myself!"

The only advantage this gives me over single account players in an extra pip, but I fly nerfed ships like shieldless Cobras because I like the challenge, so any single player can build tougher ships than I fly, thus it really isn't an advantage. It definitely isn't against the rules AFAIK, especially since I'm using my wife's Steam account. She could even sit there and pretend to be Jenny (it isn't like multicrew players do anything unless you have an SLF), but she has zero interest in ED, so I guess my cat will have to be Jenny if somebody gets irksome about me multicrewing with myself.

I'm not overly bothered about it, personally. I have an alt account, or rather I think I do having picked up Elite Dangerous on the Epic free giveaway thingy last year, but never actually activated it. Mind you, it never popped into my naive wee head that people would use alts to pad their main account, I just assumed they used them for different roleplaying scenarios - one's an explorer, one's a pirate kinda thing. Now that you've mentioned it, I can see the massive possibilities for "gaming the system."

What is Frontiers official stance on owning multiple accounts?
I vaguely remember someone mentioned that its one account per platform, but I might be completely wrong in that. I'm sure they know commanders have different accounts, especially in the wake of the aforementioned Epic freebie.

Do you believe that owning multiple accounts and using them to gain advantages otherwise unavailable is acceptable?
I mean, NOW I don't!

To those of you (like me) that only own a single account, have you ever considered getting more accounts and what for?
As mentioned, I picked up the game via Epic but never tried downloading it from them, let alone playing it. My plan was to have a "do-over" without wiping my main save because... while I occasionally pine for the days of flying by the seat of my pants and living day to day, scraping credits where I could and climbing the ranks, I also really, really, REALLY don't want to give up the progress I've made over 6 years of playing off and on.

Lately though, I started thinking about using it as a starting point to learn combat all over, since I haven't really engaged in ship to ship combat since around the time engineering happened, and an NPC Cobra absolutely volleyed me and my fully A-rated Python into the next galaxy.

It's fine

Not really.

Exploring vs BGS vs colonia, testing new start situation. basically being multiple separate CMDRs.

outside of getting the extra pip from a crew member, what advantage is there to running multiple accounts?

I just cant see an issue with this, unless it was something along the lines of using a main account to transfer wealth to another, doing some engineer grind and then selling accounts for RMT, which is probably? forbidden in TOS somewhere.

the only consideration I ever gave to multiple accounts was to have my main in the bubble and a dedicated explorer, never did though.

1) Fine with me.
2) Even better for them - on PC at least, they get paid per account. Feels unlikely that anything to do with owning those accounts or even playing them simultaneously would be a problem in and of itself. (Use of automation to get an advantage out of running three accounts at once, however, would be against their TOS. But then that would be bannable even if you only had one account.)
3) In-game the only real advantage you can get from this sort of thing is credits, which are trivial to get anyway, plus plenty of big player groups can do it through cooperation. Really not a problem. Out-of-game the bug tracker really requires it to get past the Confirmation stage in reasonable time for any mid-range bug, so absolutely I approve of that.
4) n/a
5) No. I have enough trouble finding time for the things I want to do with one account to be able to do anything useful with another. (Bug confirmations aside, but I'm certainly not paying for that, and I didn't realise they'd be useful when they were giving away the Epic alts for free)

Don't give a toss if I'm honest.

None of your business

Yeah about that... so a lot of people did that and shortly afterwards accounts where you can buy Elite started popping up. Lot's of players sitting on billions of credits, could transfer those credits onto a fresh account they got for free and sell it on third party sites... and they did.

Not gonna link the sites here, but it is possible to buy a Elite account with billions of credits and even engineer unlocks for around 100-150 USD. That may be a substantial profit depending on where you are in the world.

Frontier certainly doesn't profit off that.

None of your business
Bruh...

Can we have the link for the video op?

He unlisted the video and made a update not long ago as he just got more clarification as well as unbanned.

The reason for the ban, was multi-crewing with alt accounts which Frontier considers a exploits and was only supposed to be a 3 day ban.

The only advantage this gives me over single account players in an extra pip

Which apparently warrants a temporary ban. So I would assume that all other activities which provide advantages from alt accounts will also lead to a ban.

Someone of YT plays drama queen and deletes 3 accounts? Why am I not surprised?

My faith in YT rants is close to 0, but approaching it from the other side. I generally don't believe anything ranty until I have heard both sides, which defeats the purpose of many YT channels.

I don't see any problems with having multiple accounts: Frontier have no problems with it, they even offer guidance on how to deal with them on the support page.

I have 3 accounts myself, one for Colonia, one for the Bubble and one just to fool around in a Sidewinder with FA off.
In addition, I like for them to have different careers and different ships.
I could not even dream of running two together given the limitations of my computer, but I would not anyway because I play ED to relax, not to get asap to my next target, whatever that is. That would be the opposite of ED for me.

My guess would be that the banned person was possibly using some botting software, or something in that capacity.
Of course, mine is only a wild, unfounded guess, based on similar episodes happened in other games, however I would not trust a single word of the youtuber because it's easy to create your own echo chamber (YT comment sections are always rife with Bee Ess), although at the same time I disagree with FDev's stance of not disclosing their reasons.

In short, I will not care about of an individual who ragequits 3 accounts until I hear both sides of the story, and I am happy with my multiple accounts, and for those who enjoy themselves.

Someone else buys an account, sits in your cockpit, then wanders off AFK - fine. You do the same with an alt account, not fine? Doesn't really make any sense to me why anyone would find that a problem.

I have two Frontier accounts, one was on massive discount, and one epic account, which was free.

I used the epic account to test things out, and help new players when epic free was there, I also used it to test out running three clients and multicrewing, which showed some bugs that would have been otherwise hard to reproduce.

The second Frontier account is my "explorer" account, which I (in theory) use to explore, while still being able to interact with the main gameplay of elite which is in and around the bubble.

The second frontier account is still on my main accounts fleet carrier though (as is the epic one, I think)

Mostly, I don't really use the other accounts.

- What is your stance on owning multiple accounts?
No reason to restrict the number of accounts. They have been paid for, which supports game.

- Do you believe that owning multiple accounts and using them to gain advantages otherwise unavailable is acceptable?
If you mean being able to add one of your other CMDRs as additional crew, why not. We all cannot have a large base of friends to crew our ships or share missions with to reap the mission rewards. At the end of the day, it is just a game. Amassing credits for many has not been an issue, whether by using one account, or by having a second or more supporting the main account.

I bought a second Horizons account when it was on sale. I wanted to start afresh, but did not want to wipe my main account again. I had done that several times already. I wanted to try to play differently, having learnt and seen much. My alt currently has about 4 times more liquid wealth and ships than my main.
I bought Odyssey for my main account, and because I liked it so much after about 5 months, again having learnt much, bought Odyssey for my alt. Having unlocked 8 of the bubble engineers, my main account is being used to help others, by obtaining and donating materials.
My alt, to avoid the bubble engineer unlock grind again, I sent to Colonia via its fleet carrier. Taking along a team mate and anyone else that wanted to go, we arrived a couple of weeks ago and plan to return to the bubble at the end of January, having unlocked the Colonia engineers and upgraded/modified our suits and weapons to our hearts content.
My main CMDR is currently trying to make friends and influence people.

The bottom line, is that each account can be played differently. My alt has greased up to the Feds and the Imps sufficiently to unlock some of the larger rank restricted ships. My main has deliberately avoided ranking up with the Feds and Imps as part of her 'character'.

Frontier have no problem with multiple accounts, they facilitate it when some unnamed idiot uses the same email address to buy his second account and needs support to fix the mess he made  In practice they don't have any problems with multiple accounts.

It's just using them for advantage that would possibly cause a problem, I guess.

For me, an alt would help with exploration and extreme crime. Every time I go on a deep exploration trip I end up missing the main game, and usually last about one or two months before taking a break from the game.

With crime, I would like to push the limit of a criminal gameplay, get billions of bounty with superpowers, etc, to see what happens (and then go exploring haha!), But not on my main, especially with the crime system changing from ship back to commander in Odyseey..

I have a second account, but I bought it on the last sale as a gift for my nephew, hopefully he likes the game enough so we can sometimes play together! :)
