Seeing that a lack of (new) content is the very thing that has my eyes wandering from my current space game of choice, that pretty much eliminates SC from my list of candidates.

I heard NMS just updated with a living ship you can hatch from an egg. If new content is what you want, they are trying to stick to a monthly/two month update schedule right now.

Both titles but Wolcen especially were ripped apart for minor issues disregarding the titles qualities completely because people seem to want to crap on them just looking for a reson.

Nah the problem with Wolcen is the abysmal voice acting. It's hard to go from Path of Exile's Einhar ranting about stupid beasts and Sister Cassia's truly lovely singing to... whatever wolcen is doing. Good game though, Wolcen. When the extremely profitable Metamorph league ends I plan on diving in more.

As for the rants about 2010-2012 being the years of decade in PC gaming history, arguing about this is pointless. People have different tastes in games, and so what the worst of the worst for you could be great for others. The greatest MMO of all time IMO, The Secret World, launched in 2012 and provided me hundreds if not thousands of hours of entertainment with my party of fools stumbling through nightmare dungeons. It's one of the years I remember fondly, as I spent more time on PC then I did on console that year.

So, no, a declarative statement like "It was a terrible year and PC gaming needs to be saved" is nonsense just like me saying "It was the best of years and should be replicated" is nonsense.

Which makes Chris saying it nonsense.

Yup, I do but I'm probably not your 'typical' gamer, I didn't buy SC with anything other than a desire to test and enjoy what has been released in the current version and so far I've had plenty of enjoyment.

I realise that my idea of fun and enjoyment will not be the same as other players, for instance I can take great pleasure in just picking a place on one of the planets, travel there, find a landing spot with a nice view, go for a walk and enjoy what the developers have created ... or I might spend a few hours looking for minerals or do deliveries, I find all of that fun and relaxing and I game to relax.

I bought into SC now because of the current environment released and I look forward to further development down the line if it happens but I'm not concerned about timescales or release schedules etc. Not being your typical gamer I don't buy games thinking is it complete or what's the end game, or what's the final level like ... no ... I buy / invest in a game or project based purely on whether I think I will get some enjoyment from it in it's current state and I can honestly say that I've certainly got my £60 worth of fun thus far, anything more is a bonus (y)

I purchased SC in the New Year sale, version 3.8 and I've already had 30+ hours of enjoyment from it ... I'm cool with my level of investment in exchange for the fun received already :)
Yes, it could all fall apart or take another ween o' years to complete or maybe just fade away with a quiet little whimper ... who really cares? ... not me ;)

Not a bad point of view. Its when people hold that point of view but in the same breath try and claim that SC will be a game that will attract bazillions of players to what is effectively a niche experience that boggles my mind.

Yea, I know what you mean and it's why it took me so long to throw some money at it. Officially in my SC profile it lists me as being a 'Citizen' since 2012 but I only bought it 2 months ago because I wasn't convinced by the early promises all those years ago and I still don't have confidence that it'll reach a 'proper' release state.

I agree with many others that advise applying some caution before splashing the cash, people should only buy SC if they can afford to drop some money on a possible, maybe, perhaps, we'll see, if the stars align, tech demo that's glitchy and buggy in the current state but also manages to deliver some 'wow, that looks cool' moments. ;)

That list is brutal, and in all seriousness just goes to show how much work needs to be done

$300+ million spent and still no feature anywhere close to completion.

Not a problem, it's just early days!

Are you having fun? All I read is negative stuff, but when I watch videos I think, "Well that looks cool!"

Yes, more often than not. I'm not a masochist, or at least not self aware enough to realize I am one.

My play style is murder hobo, and I play with a group. We lock down locations and challenge the server to try and get in. I may be a simple person, but it never gets old.

I also try out the different PVE aspects of the game and they are good, when they work. But the "when they work" is a big issue. It is a kick in the teeth to lose all your money trading because of a server crash.

You have to be able to tolerate a lot of bugs to play SC. There are constant updates so there is new stuff every 3 months. And since CIG cant actually hit their roadmap dates, new stuff tends to be sprinkled in between the 3 month patches as well. Couple weeks ago got a new ship, Cutlass Red. Should be getting the new persistence and new ship Carrack in a week or so.

I've also dumped an irrational amount of money into the game. I 100% would not be having the fun in the game if I just had an Aurora. Even someone who really wants to get in the game, I'd tell them to at least start with the Avenger Titan.

He streamed Elite for years and just recently moved over to SC. Same sort of thing, nothing to do in Elite. He is really enjoying SC and is still new enough to be learning stuff.

For me, if you have to ask "Should I buy into SC now?" the answer is no. Once you get to the point where you actually want to try SC, it is fine. But if you are questioning it, you'd be better off waiting.

I played RDR2 a while after it launched and I didnt have any issues. And like others have said, NMS is really good if you havent checked it out.

But for me right now, mulitplayer space game? I'll be in SC.

Standard caveats:

Carrack: $500
Cutlass Red: $135 ($120 new money)
Avenger Titan: $50

The Cutlass Red does not have its medical gameplay beyond basic reheal & acting as a respawn point. Does not have its ship-to-ship docking functionality.

The Carrack is an exploration ship in a game with one star system ;)

I'm struggling here to understand. If there is nothing to do in ED, then how does moving to SC make any sense? I presume its some sort of honeymoon period, and after delivering a box for the hundredth time, he might start to feel the same way about SC.

He is streaming right now. Go ask him :)
