You suggesting CIG giving ships for free is a way to bypass the sponsorship acknowledgement rules?
Streamers have been receiving ships for giveaways for years now. CIG have stepped it up a notch with the latest batch of Prowlers for streamer giveaways.

and as the alpha gets better and better it will bring in more and more funding

“There are a lot of legal issues with celebrity streamers” McArthur said. “These streamers NEED to make advertisement disclosures via the FTC guidelines. They should always use #ad hashtags. But they often fail. For example, Ninja was paid $1 million to stream Apex for one evening and never disclosed it pursuant to the FTC endorsement guidelines. The FTC has their eyes on streamers and will start cracking down harshly soon.”

It´s almost as if you had that in reserve, waiting for the predictable retort about the missing #ad :)

"Better" is relative. It's going to take a lot of "better" before it progresses from "atrocious garbage fire" to "barely acceptable MVP"
Stop throwing money at it and see how long development lasts. Roberts is on the record saying he had enough money to finish the game, and that was about $250m ago. 90 days would be generous. More like it would take about a week for the top execs to cash out and shut up shop.

So you're saying that it'll bring in less and less funding?

Oh, and of course, it should be noted that the “90 days” estimate turned out to be true, even by CI¬G's own numbers — they just barely managed to scrape by though a sudden influx of Christmas cash that they suckered fools out of, and they've been operating at a loss ever since.

What's funny is funding has been increasing the worse the alpha has got and the more they remove from the roadmap.

Logic doesn't apply for some reason in relation to SC, its like CR has biguiled people with his promises of unlimited fidelity, the problem with which of course is, he can't deliver on even half of what he has promised and sold to backers over the years. I'm pretty certain even the best lead with the best team would be unable to deliver what CR has promised. At least not without another 30 years of development.

Still, its nice to see CIG taking all the time they want to get it right, and not release a half-finished buggy mess like Elite: Dangerous /s

Actually, if you are referring to Calder's money, it was only discovered around Christmas, months after CIG actually got the funding. Because the most open development company ever failed to inform backers that they had sold 10% of the company to a private investor. 10% of the company that backers paid for.

You can infinitely cry that SC is scam, it's not released, swishing failed roadmaps.
But still, SC every 3 months gets more of new content, than ED during last 3 years.
Of course ED is not doomed - it's just old, shallow, dull, repetitive, still half-implemented in all aspects. Thus, even now, being an early alpha, SC is already more fun and engaging than ED. And as a result...

"OMG, viewers have dropped by 66%, the game is doomed!"

It's okay as long as the game has active players

Where did I say it was a scam friend? Please try not to introduce straw man arguments, it makes you look silly and frivolous, rather than like someone who wants a genuine discussion based on facts and merit.

Personally I’m not even playing ED these days, and don’t care for the ‘king of the hill’ tribalism re ED vs SC in the first place, so you’re swinging at shadows there too. Each game will do what it does. If I like what they do I’ll play ‘em.

But even from that standpoint, your 3 months vs 3 years statement is clearly hyperbolic. It would make sense if the features that CIG adds each update were stable, replete systems and loops. But alas they are mainly ‘tier 0’ first drafts, built upon game infrastructure which is monumentally flakey, rendering them frequently compromised and prone to game-breaking bugginess. For it is an alpha.

The roadmap stuff is fun though isn’t it ;). Might as well repost it in this thread too :)

It takes a lot to make ED’s roadmap radio-silence look good. But SC’s incredibly errant roadmaps manage it...

3.9: From first version to delivery:

3.9: Four months before delivery vs final delivery:

You can check that for yourself here.

That’s under the new more conservative and achievable road mapping system they heralded.

If want to go really wild, let’s take a longer view, back to the infamous 3.0 roadmap:

2016 3.0 vs June 2019

Of course they’ve added the $950 890 Jump and $600 Carrack in the interim, so they’ve really turned a corner since then...

Who needs the actual gameplay functions that come with the ships anyway ;)

Having dev chats about plans and ongoing work is all fun. But at times it just obscures the actual delivery cadence, and gives a false impression of both understanding of their internal challenges, and of liable progress.

I did quite like the recent vid where they discussed how sandwiches kept appearing in everyone’s hands on the server when one person bought one. They said they’d fixed it. They haven’t.

It was very Star Citizen ;)

Now if you’ll excuse me I’m off to play FO4VR some more :)
