It was still:
  • announced in advance that it will have five parts
  • it was finished as announced
  • it wasn't charged any extra money
  • it is currently third of SQ42 price (and while at release it was half, it's on Steam, so fairly often as low as ~5.75 EUR, recently even ~3.75 EUR)

I am highly doubtful that SQ42 will bring noticeable funding increase for CI even with full "Episode 1" release, and if they dilute the release even further, I can't imagine it will be accepted by wider gaming community. Paying $45 for few movies and missions and then having to wait a year or two for more is kinda stretching it too much, especially for players not interested in transferring to PU.
Just saying. Personally I don't dig such release schemes. Maybe that foreshadowed Telltale's situation already.

It works better for smaller companies, because instead of one big loan (for developers' salaries) you can take five smaller ones, which usually saves you on fees and interest. I have to admit that I don't really like such stuff either, but sometimes it's more of a necessity.

Well, those who do not want that can simply wait for a released game right, it's not like people put a gun to their head and force them to back a game on kickstarter and playtest.
You're assuming the game industry is static and isn't developing/releasing new games that may compete with SC/SQ42. Another thing is technology is also moving forward, new rendering technology is going to diminish SC appeal if CR don't keep up and incorporate the new technology into the game(s). SC was marketted based on graphical greatness afterall.

Considering how CR approached it in the passed you might have another refactoring of ingame assets a year or two before the game is finished. At any moment CR could decide to refactor anything on a whim which makes any deadlines so far meaningless.

To be fair, the polish (extremely good polished art assets) should have been closer to the tail end of development in the first place while they actually put the gameplay loops in.

With that in mind, I think a refactoring later before release would be welcome vs indefinite postponing of gameplay/systems/physics for the sake of new shiny assets.

Went out and stole a few NPC ships tonight accompanied by Joe...Valkyrie and a Hammerhead. tried an NPC Caterpillar but couldn't get it to stay still long enough to get in. It was fun flying around with NPC turret crew...but had to eventually shoot them because they were so useless.
They fired at rocks, friendly ships, feds, space stations... everything in fact... except what we were aiming at. Every time we targeted a pirate for bounty collection, they had a coffee break

As is CIG's wont, they did things ass backwards. They started with polish then started work on the game mechanics... a little, and while they were doing that, throwing out more assets.

Because, apparently, assets, real or imagined, sell for lots of money. Its not as though CIG can package up gameplay elements and sell them off to backers can they? Can they?

LOL whats not to like :) my own cat is 15 years now and also makes all sorts of weird noises when sleeping, from wheezing to meowing, twitches and outright snoring and STILL she gets a heart attack whenever I touch her if she doesnt expects it, poor thing nearly fell off her ivory tower yesterday ^^

Aaaw.

We had to put one of our cats down a few weeks ago due to throat cancer. She was the cat that we fell asleep with and woke up to. Place feel a bit emty now. Still have a 9 kilo Maine Coon and a 19 year old kitten roaming around so it's not completely emty.

Well he's stating exactly what i said earlier here about Microtech. It might look good, but adds nothing to the game, while they are still not addressing the core gameplay or long standing bugs (some are 5 year old by now).

Having heard both sides of the argument....if CIG manages to produce the required tech (weather sim) to incorporate on all their planets it ll be a good quality improvement for immersion and variety (still not as critical as so many other things CIG has yet to produce but oh well....priorities right?). I just reserve judgement until I can see Microtech drop and evaluate the system based on its implementation. Cuz right now I dont believe CIG is capable of doing something like this. I expect weather to be handcrafted and placed to fit the location. Also am curious about weather impact on the flight model.
