Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Let's be honest, this isn't specific to Star Citizen.

As i understand it (not being a girl), in online games once people know you a girl it goes one of two ways. Either people start showering you with gifts or the harassment starts... or both. I suspect even the gift giving isn't always welcomed.

Its sad, but that's what happens when you give a wide range of people anonymous access to online features, especially G.I.F.T.ed people.

No company can do live moderation of live chat (voice or text), so the only recourse is reporting people when they step out of line.

And that is what the author of that post needs to do. Report, report, report.
The lack of mute/block functions doesn't help though.

Its the anonymity of the web I'm afraid , hiding behind the console or PC . It's no different in any online game . If it was face to face they wouldn't say boo. But it's still no excuse

Play ArmA on the public servers, lol sometimes you wonder if the local asylum had a breach 🤪

This post about server meshing... Server meshing could be done as planned, or not, or just the opposite, or not, maybe. Definitely Maybe.

The community second guessing and filling info holes at its best. So many words, so much effort wasted in second guessing. This used to happen a lot with ship or mechanics theorycrafting. Now the thing has dropped a level to theoricraft tech not even CIG knows what they are on about. CIG is sure an expert in keeping the community busy about nothing.

It is "definitely possible", though, and some of the players find it oddly comforting. Nobody has done it so far to the extent CIG promised, they do not seem to have top tier networking / distributed systems teams (or they do but are mismanaged into disfunction), and yet they will definitely do it.

As i understand it (not being a girl),

I have 6 avatars on my ED account for different roles in game, at least 1 is 'female' and its amazing how ignorant male players react sometimes in chat or messages.

OTOH I used to play a game for money and had a 'female' avatar and male players would literally throw money at me either expecting me to give up and let them win or believed I couldnt be bluffing and just gave in themselves. I couldn't believe it how Alpha / Neanderthal their mindset was, but they paid me for having that ignorance.

Eyes wide open now and I didnt even think they were closed before but just these 2 small experiences show me what my Sister and friends must have to put up with in everyday life all the time. Its hard to comprehend that people still think this way and I always make sure I distance myself from them now.

I played Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast and had a female character, this one guy would not leave me alone. Even when I told him I was a guy (which I am), months of him trying to get my number, trying to chat about all sorts of crap etc. Funny for me but perhaps not for a girl/woman.

Otherwise, thankfully I have never had any more weirdness if I've rolled a female character. Voice chat in particular seems to be where all the sexist crap really kicks off.

So, did you give him your number?

The next step is something called Persistent Streaming.

There's always something else that is needed.

And the list goes on and on.

Belief that static server meshing will be next year and dynamic in 22/23. Hah.

The idea that CIG will go for release after dynamic server meshing is done is interesting. Assuming it gives the performance gains and number of players desired and stability, SC is still going to be a long way from fulfiling all the stretch goals they said would be done by release.

Remember CIG flip flopping saying that there would only be 5-7 systems by launch but then backpedalled to 5-7 systems when most of the game is feature complete and they were still targetting 110 systems for launch.

I think they will be pushing it to get 5-7 systems by 2023 even assuming if they have plenty of assets lying around. But maybe they can pull it off if they can somehow distract CR from sending everything back for rework and demanding max fidels everywhere.

Its strange as well considering its a meme that MMORPG stands for Mostly Men Online Role Playing Girls.

Apropos to the current conversation

My wife gave up online gaming after persistently suffering this type of abuse. Mostly on Xbox live admittedly... which can be a particularly nasty little den of teenage hormones and sad, lonely little boys desperate for attention. She has a Star Citizen account too...as well as a Frontier one, has played both ED and SC but prefers RDR2 single player from the comfort of the living room on the Xbox.

As an attractive older woman who's had to suffer sometimes inappropriate behaviour from the more basic brand of our masculinity all her life, she's well versed in dealing with it with a sense of humour that's strangely tolerant and unique to women confident in their femininity.

As a strictly pillion passenger on my bikes all of our lives together, she's had to endure the majority sausage party mentality of being a biker's wife. She has a patch sewn on the chest of her leather cut which states quite plainly...' These are deaf, try higher up'... which just about says it all :)
