Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

A fundamental problem with the way Star Citizen is funded, for as long as it has middle-aged space nerds willing to ram their hand deep in to their pockets where is the incentive to get it done?

I'll tell you what tho, they are getting restless, frustrated with the lack of development.

So restless they need a fix(-wing).

I mean.. yeah you're not wrong Fritz, however, to a financial expert or what not what CIG are doing is what is called an untapped market. All that matters is it's legal. Whether ethical or not or is pretty much irrelevant from a company point of view.

There is undoubtedly a market for games other than what the market is currently pumping out a lot of, which is third person RPG-like clones with many many things to do. Some have more emphasis on story, some not but they're all mostly third person open world type games.

There has been an appetite for space sims that have not appeared for a while. There will likely be an appetite for other types of games that have not appeared for a while too. Maybe real time strategy will make a come back.

Slated or no, it's breaking its concurrent players record.

But this thread is about SC and yesterday alone saw a 10x increase in sales from the previous day, 763k, up from 74k on Wednesday.

The power of marketing to your core audience. Let's not forget this is sales for a ship that is only sold to people that already paid over 1000 USD. Who needs new buyers..

Looks like will be over 500k today too.
Gotta catch 'em all ;)

CR was right about one thing, there is a market for PC space games. Clearly.

Ok can’t do the post I wanted to. But suffice to say:

You just don’t see bugs like this in most ‘playable now' games:

Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/nhcjbp/this_new_ship_on_demand_service_is_a_little_too/

The game mistaking the player for a vehicle, and injecting a load of weapons and utilities into them. (Leaving them without a character model, and unable to interact with anything).

SC is next level ;)
Gundam armor anyone?

lol.... you ordered a 325A? Sir?

And on a wider scale the whole "PC gaming is dead" thing from a decade back was obviously nonsense in hindsight. PCs already had mature digital distribution networks (Steam, etc) which consoles were far behind, and this distribution was a, if not the, major mover in the whole gaming market and still is.

Not sure that CR saved anything, though, even if he was correct in seeing a place for space gaming on the PC!

Strange that the Not-an-Xwing has appeared in the concierge store, it doesn't usually go for selling single ships of any sort...

Now if you want to spend $750 and over for a few ships in a ready made LTi and Sqn 42 inclusive bonanza package...the exclusive chairman's club store is just for you. With the new RSi packages being freshly shoved in there alongside the Scorpius, it's plain that the Not-an-Xwing jpeg isn't solely responsible for the recent boost in funding...a few of those shiny new 4 to 5 grand packages for the Pokemon collectors among the whales... as well as the bulk buying Grey Market resellers... will have contributed heavily to the funding spike.

If anyone has any doubts as to how much the grey market resellers contribute to those funding spikes, just type 'Star Citizen upgrades' into an Ebay search...and that's just Ebay. Scary, isn't it? ;)

Is there a rebate on bulk buying?
