Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

There is no Sq42. It's been a bag of lies and hot air blown up the backer's rears. They don't even have a roadmap for it.

You FUDster!

From an 2016 video...

Q: Have you been able to play through a mission in SQ42 yet?
Disco has been able to, but has chosen not to.
Tyler has played through every mission because he comes from QA, and it was his job to to so.

There you go! SQ42 was clearly mission complete in 2016. They just never released because they didn't have a roadmap to enable it!

Once the roadmap pipelines are complete SQ42 will be out!

Nice thread, with white knights pulling all stops: Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/i26b02/citizencon_2016_rant_while_drinking_beer/g02mbbg/?context=3

That "Bluegobln" citizen is really pulling the "you don't understand game development" on me haha. And starts comparing CiG with... SpaceX, of all things. Lots of entertainment, i cant be bothered to reply anymore (too deep in the Reddit tree..) but that gives you an idea of the convoluted reasoning they have to keep by now to continue supporting CiG and think they are doing a good job.
Like when i ask "Did spaceX trash their whole design entirely and start a completely different rocket after each "iteration" ?"
The reply is: "Did CIG with their ships? Nope."... Of course, the whole game development is about ships (*). Makes sense, in a way. Gives us a window on the expectation of this kind of people, as long as their 3D pixels are being delivered, it's ok, and we can call that "iterations".

(*) (edit) besides, they did redo each and every ship over again, a few times...

So, had a read of comments and came across this one from bluegoblin

The mods in this subreddit have unfortunately decided to let the trolls and haters fester and swarm, and that is what you're seeing. The misinformation and hate have spread and there are tons of people who are falling victim to the lies and slander of CIG.
Do your best to put out correct information if you can, but unfortunately they have the power of brigade on their side and our mods may or may not be allowing it.

So, mods are apparently bad now for letting discussion happen and OP who provides links to what CIG actually wrote is "misinformation"

Now, that's some serious cognitive dissonance. On the one hand believing everything CIG say and on the other hand dismissing what CIG said in the past as misinformation.

Having said that, its one issue i felt when playing the freefly, that the elevator panel was not intuitive and needed a rework. So, its not frivolous... but its rather trivial and hard to understand why its at 0% despite being on the patch list for months and at one point was allegedly 30 or 50% complete!
Never done before ! You dont understand game development ! It takes YEARS to develop such an advanced functionality ! Elevator buttons, soon to be tier zero once the pipelines deliver them.
Just like the barman AI (basic path finding, queuing of orders, and a touch of inverse kinematics.. that took also multiple years and tens of millions $$ to develop !)..

Honestly, i didnt want to answer that poor guy on Reddit, but as a dev myself, i would never work at CiG just for fear of having their name appear on my CV. They are the laughing stock of the industry.

Guys, I start to think that we all didn't see what was just in front of us since a couple of days.
LittleAnt must be the first SMEB (subsumption marketing evangelist bot) based on the bartender AI.

LittleAnt, I have to thank you for coming here and revigorate the threadnought and I admire your tenacity for attempting evangelizing this place. ;)

Interviewer: So there's a ten year gap in your work history.

Former SC Dev: I spent ten years depressed trying to find myself.

Interviewer: Fair, well call you, maybe...

--------------------

Interviewer: So it says here you spent ten years on revolutionary never been done before best damn space game ever by Chris Roberts?

Former SC Dev: That's right.

Interviewer: Security!

I do not think that is the issue, here. In a reasonably competent company working with a reasonable product that could be indeed true. But CIG has shown year after year for almost 9 years that they can not simply iterate to a point where it will work properly.
I think the problem in SC's case is there is no clear target for any of the systems in the game. What's the point of iterating if you don't know what you're trying to achieve in the first place? And that's entirely down to Roberts, and his unique blend of ineptitude and desire/need to keep SC in the "all things to all men" fuzzy state so that the whales don't get disillusioned. They make ships, then they come up with some other idea that necessitates the rework of the ships because they didn't have a coherent plan in the first place. They hack together a flight model, and then when everything else has stalled and they're desperate to show evidence of progress they tweak some parameters and pretend it's a new flight model, not because it gets them closer to an end goal but simply for the sake of having made a change. There's no direction whatsoever.

CIG had finished my AI 4 years ago but I was stuck in an elevator till last month...

What is CI's (no G remember) Planetary Tech? What does it do that Lumberyard doesn't?
First you're going to have to find a solid definition of what that “planetary tech” is even supposed to consist of. Good luck.

In general, the answer to any question on the theme of “what does CI¬G's thing do that [basic thing] doesn't?” is “not a whole lot”. But it's all about the plug-ins and middleware these days anyway so it's hard to tell where the engine ends and the add-ons begin.

Compare Lumberyard Dynamic Vegetation and SpeedTree (except those are for Lumberyard and therefore don't really apply to SC, but the point is much the same).

Thanks for the reply Tippis. I think it's just a case of backers repeating parrot fashion whatever made up crap CI tells them. Having never invested in this thing, I am immune to such nonsense.
