Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

That's not the vision of Navigare Necesse Est. He really thinks the whole SQ42 project doesn't exist past the videos showed and it's only a scam.
It was that way until about 2019, if i recall correctly. That's when they started the official dev timeline for SQ42 and we could see that absolutely nothing but rough scripting was done. Also according to insiders, the various demos were indeed fully scripted "corridors" and going off track would not only crash the demo, but risk showing that there was nothing else around.

So there will be no good news for SQ42 before 2024 of they only started in 2019.

Why ?
It would be like visiting Rapture before playing Bioshock.

I never played Bioshock so don't understand the reference.

But its just another system, one out of 110, which has been described in lore.

Its the same as saying you don't want to see Pyro because of spoilers or Nyx.

Just because it will feature in SQ42 just means you'd get to see it for the first time in SC if it came first.

And let's just back up a bit. Let's say CIG start adding new systems, but SQ42 still isn't released. Then they shouldn't add it? Let's say they start pumping out new systems every month like some backers foolishly believe. It shouldn't be added because "spoilers"? What % of backers do you think would swallow that tripe?

Actually, i'd say the main reason not to add Odin early would be because its nowhere near Stanton.

Pyro makes sense. But the next systems shouldn't be Odin or Nix. They should be Terra (man, that one is going to take CIG years!) and Magnus.

However, if they want to make a beeline for Odin, then yes, Pyro, Nix, then Odin then (LOL) Kellog. Then they get to the border with Vanduul space. They might get that done by 2030 I suppose.

Yes and it doesn't make me happy. I don't want to see more of it. Same for the abandonned station with the spoiled second route to enter it.

So, you're categorically stating that if CIG showed off more SQ42 gameplay, you'd be against it?

You wouldn't be declaring its the best things since sliced bread on the forums or linking the video?

It will be interesting to see when CIG do a 180 on their "no spoilers" statement again. Do you truly believe they won't show off any of SQ42 as it gets closer to release?

Can't be true. That muppet from QA apparently played through the whole of SQ42 years ago.

They have to show something at least for the press. It can be private or public, don't know what they will do.
It will be hard for me to not look if it's public and I will probably be weak and look at it :(

...

You must play Bioshock, it's a masterpiece with a wonderful universe.
It's like visiting a complete level of a game before playing it. It will spoil you all the details of the map (special vistas, hidden passages, special visual effects, etc).
If you can visit the pirated station of Odin in SC before the release of SQ42, you will know the whole place by heart. When playing for the first time SQ42, you'll know the complete map of the station when you enter it, ruining all surprises of it.
A lot of places will be unique in SC and I think that Odin will be one of the system with the greatest number of unique places. For instance, I'm not sure you will find a place like the Coil elsewhere in the SC universe.

And let's just back up a bit. Let's say CIG start adding new systems, but SQ42 still isn't released. Then they shouldn't add it?
It is indeed a problem if this happen. SQ42 have to be released shortly after Pyro.

Fair enough. Points for the honesty.

Just never appealed to me, sorry.

Oh, woe is me, i'll know the layout myself rather than following a map someone posted on the forums or reddit. The surprises hopefully will come from the script rather than the layout. Although if there's no space bulldozer i'll be sad.

With Chris, everywhere will be unique. That's why its going to take them decades. I'm not sure Odin will have the most number of unique places (especially not for the SQ42 release). Terra or Earth surely should have that honour.

It is indeed a problem if this happen. SQ42 have to be released shortly after Pyro.

You'd hope so... but this is CIG we are talking about.

It's nonsense. A story needs narration. A star system narrates nothing. Just go in a random one in ED and look what story it tells. Or try in Space Engine.

Joke aside, in every solo game if you know a place before playing it, it ruins a lot of fun.

You play your solo games with spoilers maps ?

That's my point. The system and the objects there don't spoil anything relating to SQ42. The draw of SQ42 should come from the story presented within the game and the events that happen.

Like the human who betrays humanity to the Vanduuls or the near destruction of humanity's fleet or the death of Old Man or... ooops, spoilers!

You can play X4 without doing the plots. It's an economy / space ship sim. Nothing gets spoiled.

"SPACE BULLDOZER WAS NOT A JOKE!" - Chris Roberts (probably)

Sometimes, depends on the game. Sometimes i make the maps. I remember sitting with a friend playing Eye of the Beholder with pencils and graph paper making the maps as we went through.

Playing Kingmaker i'm constantly referencing the maps just to make sure i don't miss any cool loot. Especially when doing Tenebrous Depths, where missing an item on each level results in the quest associated it with not getting the best outcome (you still finish, but it leaves the evil lurking to resurface thousands of years in the future... i just can't have that on my conscience :D)

Apart from that I don't really get this "spoiler panic" - it's not like you can't enjoy a good story after you've already seen it. Seeing a couple of glimpses what could await and people go cry already. It's also not like anyone forced them to look at the "spoilers", but they do and then complain. It's really silly.
