I didn't realise Mikey's gaming PC was so old...him being a prolific streamer and all, I assumed streamers all had god rigs paid for with the subsWas he in the PU or the PTU?
Is there a way to tell from his stream? Maybe he said, but i wasn't in from the start.
He is in Orison, has to be PTU.

A 7 year old rig with an i7 4750, 16Gb of ddr3 and a gtx1070...stretching it a bit playing SC with that and streaming... Another 16Gb of RAM might help...assuming he has the slots on the board for it. I always wondered why his SC streams were kinda stuttery. It's not a bad PC by any means...if he was just gaming...but streaming SC and other stuff to make a few bucks off as well?
If my online livelihood relied on it as much as he does, I'd have upgraded that thing piece by piece as I went along. He's not a huge earner from the streaming or anything...but he rakes in more than enough for upgrades every now and then. I know he's in the process of upgrading...but it's way past overdue already
Thanks. Forgot it hadn't been released to the unwashed masses yet.
uh, anyone who has the game can access the PTU right now. been that way for a while.
Indeed, but from the beginning...anyone buying or building a PC specifically to run one game with the thinking that it'll still be the required spec a decade later was always on a fools errand, Star Citizen or not. I can remember folks planning and buying upgrades for Horizons, yet they still expect Odyssey to run on the same specs that are now 6 years old in real terms. PC gaming has always been a fairly expensive hobby of playing catch up...now even the consoles have overtaken a good many folks current PC builds for less than the cost of a mid range graphics cardHe seems to have invested a lot in his streaming rig. As he said, he could get better performance playing on his streaming rig but then he couldn't stream or something. His graphics card is still way more powerful than mine
Funny how SC has been in alpha so long its requirements have increased beyond a rig that was bought to play SC.
Nah, final phases of the PTU have been open to all backers for years. It's only first or second wave that's restricted to whales and subbies. My, how times change. I thought it was still restricted to whales and subscribers.

Star Citizen may have been in development for 9 years...but anyone not upgrading their PC at all during that time as a matter of course...especially if playing games are their thing...that's not Star Citizen's fault
I don't have a top end rig by any standards, but it runs SC more than adequately. I upgraded the more expensive bits in my 6 year old rig I originally built to run Horizons, Star Citizen and IL2 BoS only this year, even though I had added or changed a few less expensive bits during that time...I did buy the top spec bits back then trying to future proof it for a few years... but it was getting a bit long in the tooth for most of the current gen games I played, never mind SC.I upgraded from a GTX 460 to a GT 1030 for Horizons
But I think the opposite is also true in that demanding you have a top end CPU, GPU, SSD etc after all this time is just as bad.
I kind of wish CR released S42 first, because that would have allowed him a fixed attainable target not spanning multiple generations of technology to play, and one that he could not screw up (considering he's been remaking the same game every five to ten years or so- Wing Commander, Strike Commader, then Star Lancer, now S42 at some point).
In the meantime, I'm playing / played Rebel Galaxy Outlaw at max settings and hardly any bugs and my Privateer Itch has been scratchedI don't have a top end rig by any standards, but it runs SC more than adequately. As for Sqn 42...I highly doubt it'll make a showing for at least another 2 years....

This.
And more, anyone buying or building a PC to run a game in heavy Alpha is on a fools errand.
We'll see if the minimum requirements will lessen with Vulkan.
Wait… don’t you know? “Adequately” has been redefined as getting 200 frames per second at 4K resolution, with all graphics options at the super-ultra-godlike-maximum level. Anything less is completely unacceptable!I don't have a top end rig by any standards, but it runs SC more than adequately.
