Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

My Stanton brings server ticks to the yard
And they're like, there are fewer of us
Damn right, there are fewer of us
There could be more, but Jeff Bezos would charge
Yeah, about Bezos. have you seen his spaceship? Why couldn't Chris pay Bezos with some jpegs of good-looking ships instead of money?!

Well, at least no Asp in front of things.
How about than New Lakon Ship in front of things, I dare you?! :D

She said she wanted the Razer ones for 10,000 roubles. I gave her a dirty look.
Did she called your dirty look and raised you one Sony WH1000-XM4 for 30k рублей?

Isn't it still a capital crime to like Star Citizen though? I thought that was the whole point..
No. No, it is not a crime to like Star Citizen. It may be weird - may be not - but I'm okay with that, not an example of 100% typical homo sapiens myself. Hell, If I were, I wouldn't be posting here in the middle of the night!
I think it is not a crime to declare that SC really - after being 7 years past due - is BDSSE, never been done before, better than anything else, salvation of PC gaming. As long as one's words don't hurt anyone he can speak freely. And other people are free to point at the faulty arguments and have fun at the expense of those yay-sayers.
I dare say, it is not even a crime to say that 'SC is good because I enjoyed it', albeit quite stupid, no idea why some people insist on putting foot in their mouths.
But I think that making profit from deception is a crime. And I totally expect that SC development will finish in court.

Well, CIG has been in court at least twice already that we are aware of and reprimanded/contacted by regulatory bodies also at least twice in the UK and US 😋 Not sure if CIG will end up in court again or not, but given its stellar trajectory I would not bet too much against it.

Only detail Firkrayt has not got right yet is the "finish" part. Although given how SC and SQ42 have progressed to date it would not be a tremendous surprise if someone could reasonably argue that SC and SQ42 have been, for all practical purposes, finished for a while already. Volumetric clouds are really nice though.

The only thing that is really keeping hopes up that something changes is the funding tracker. The irony, of course, is that if the tracker is true (and if CIG still retains full control of the project, big if) it is also precisely what will probably prevent CIG from changing an iota its way of doing things.

Poor Derek was never right

Another a propos of nothing, let´s remember this project is led by someone who, among many other misrepresentations, seems completely unashamed of lying to our faces at any time, like in this occasion 6 years ago:

This is the guy some backers expect to safely lead the development of SC and SQ42 to completion.
Chris never lies. He has hired goons like Tyler What-his-name-again and Sean Tracy to do that for him.
What Chis does is being vague. Here he used term 'actually' not in the meaning of a fact, but to express his wonder. All the words that followed describe Chris vision, not reality.

Although given how SC and SQ42 have progressed to date it would not be a tremendous surprise if someone could reasonably argue that SC and SQ42 have been, for all practical purposes, finished for a while already.

One don't need reasons to argue here, as CR never said SC would be released, all he ever said it will 'go live'

And about SQ42 all he said was 'be complete'

And SC went live back in 2015

Later in 2017, not a word about release

And in 2019

And in 2020

Chris only ever used the term 'release' for specific version numbers, not the game as a whole.
Although Sean Tracy told something about the release of ToW

Looking back from autumn of 2021 it's obvious that Sean Tracy don't understand game development

But Richard Tyrer does!

From alpha back to pre-alpha! Ten years in development - still early days. That really had never been done before.

Ugh, what do we have here?

<waves his hands> disregard this, Chris never said that, I don't know whose presentation this is.
No release, Roberts says!

What is a release, anyway?

Hello Ben, how are you doing these days?

I have used 'finish' instead of 'end up' deliberately.
Vodka and Martini, shaken, not stirred.
SC and SQ42, finished, not released.

I mean, i have no idea if DS actually had some internal info that was leaked to him, but i can imagine at the time this was the situation and CIG were lying out of their rear ends about the state of SQ42, its just even CIG's pessimistic internal roadmap wasn't pessimistic enough.

Salt Citizen

Of course, what matters most with SC patches is new ships!

I think most people are missing the point with the next thread.... CIG can hold naming in reserve to be able to charge for exclusive naming when they add it

Someone also brings up this vid...

People expecting the BMM at citizen con

And this one has the "bargaining" stage of grief written all over it

I have a sneaking suspicion that they've re-engined Sqn 42 to UE4...or something that isn't Cryengine based. There's no real reason or evidence pointing to why I suspect that, but it would add up given the Crytek court case outcome, the delays and secrecy surrounding Sqn 42 since the end of 2016... considering it was supposed to be almost done back then. They have the 3D assets and MOCAP etc which are there regardless of what engine they're put into so it's not like they need to redo all of those. It would also make more sense should Ci¬G ever consider releasing Sqn 42 on console as a standalone.

It's just nagging at me that somewhere along the line during 2017, they've switched game engines for the idiot's magnum opus....just putting the thought out there

I'd say that would have leaked out at some point.

Still to this day I can’t fathom a way they don’t get SQ42 out in some kind of reasonable form. (As much as games do collapse all the time, it’s normally because the suits don’t see the worth in brute forcing them over the line with more cash).

CIG have everything they need to keep pushing on with it regardless. If they did still manage to mess up the landing (because of hubris like the premature celeb mocap, or corporate shenanigans like the Crytek wars)… that really would be quite the achievement ;)

Really? Do you recognize this Xbox360-era dinosaur?

There is a reason why Todd Howard sells Skyrim for 10 years, but Morrowind and Oblivion weren't redone on it's engine, despite all three games and engines made by the same studio. Assets don't age well.

Still to this day I can’t fathom a way they don’t get SQ42 out in some kind of reasonable form.

One of the main problems with conversation and discourse surrounding Star Citizen (and not just Star Citizen, don't get me started on today's American political landscapes) is that a joke, troll, ironic or real post all begin to sound the same. My irony meter broke sometime around late 2016 and has continued to spiral downward. "Taking horse de-wormer," I'll say, "that has to be someone joking. That has to be a troll." And lo, it is real. And I am owned.

And maybe that's the point of blurring and crossing all these "ironic" lines (not singling you out here, Ian, just in more of a general sense): that eventually it becomes so exhausting to filter out what's a real argument versus a fun joke versus a deliberate troll, that no matter what, the responder is owned.
Yea, I feel this erosion is become a common phenomenon. It's got to do with the power of suggestion and the widespread use of twitter, facebook and the like "social" media. usenet flamewars are nothing against that.
