Um, do you seriously think that a computer game needs a $700,000,000+ budget?Well, I am not Nostradamus, but i'd say atleast $300 million more for a 1.0 version.

Wow, just watching Saltemike watching a clip of 2016 citcon, I think that's the one I was mentioning. Chris says eg Farming coming in 3.3, crowd goes wild. Mike says he was there, was whooping with the crowd. But he was standing beside a CIG dev who was saying ... that won't happen. What is this *@$%? No, that's not happening.
Ha ha ha ha
And a developer was standing next to me, and they went: "Uhhhh, that's not gonna happen. Uhhhh, that's not gonna happen." Literally as he's saying it. I was standing right next to them, and they were like: "What the... [use your imagination here]."
Chris Roberts said:Our cadence on releases, which is what you've seen in the last few releases, is probably going to be something like 2 to 3 months between releases.
Back in the day they had the money to hire quality astroturf, now they're down to green felt.Maybe in the past it was true faithful. And today it's just cheap trolls. Früher war halt alles besser.
I never expected to say that, but I almost miss Mr Nowak
Brutal, honest, simple. I like it. If you throw a towel over it I can maybe even live with it.I never expected to say that, but I almost miss Mr Nowak

As a bonus Mike is totally wrong on the quarterly release schedule not being a thing then. (The one saving grace he tries to lay down, before returning to eviscerating them righteously over Citcon 2016. And how everything that's wrong about it is still wrong in 2022...)
Here's Chris at the time:

All of that fantasy was supposed to come in the next year, 2017...
Looked that stream further SaltEMike seems to be pretty gloomy..."not much to do in this game..." and so on.Lol, oh please someone clip that
In the meantime, here is his considered view:

Always good to get the opinion of a long-time backer

2 Computer games, SC & Squadron 42. EA makes´over 800 mil a year, as I have said time and time again, 400 million over the course of a decade is absolutely nothing.Um, do you seriously think that a computer game needs a $700,000,000+ budget?
How many games EA releases per year? And is this "makes over" their profit or just rough sales. (Probably first)2 Computer games, SC & Squadron 42. EA makes´over 800 mil a year, as I have said time and time again, 400 million over the course of a decade is absolutely nothing.
EA actually releases tons of games. SC does not.EA makes´over 800 mil a year, as I have said time and time again, 400 million over the course of a decade is absolutely nothing.
400 million over a decade is still absolutely nothing. No matter if they released a game or not.It is really not about how much money a company can make or spend to do the stuff it does. But rather about how little can a company do (say, zero products in 10 years) with the money it is given.
Well that depends on viewpoint. My city managed to spend over five years 200 million for biowaste composting utility that did not work. Voters got pretty angry Politicians did not try THAT explanation400 million over a decade is still absolutely nothing. No matter if they released a game or not.
400$ million for just SC/SQ42? It is a monstrous amount of money by any standard, (discount marketing spend and the monstrosity that is SC is even worst) especially when considering that with all of that money wasted there is still no product released after 10+ years.400 million over a decade is still absolutely nothing. No matter if they released a game or not.
Now you are going to conflate earnings and production costs?400 million over a decade is still absolutely nothing. No matter if they released a game or not.
