Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Well yeah better drop this whole "alpha" thing. It is released live service game, and has been so for years. Macro payments are feature, not some transitional stuff.
We can drop this whole Alpha thing when they remove the disclaimers and every single branding that you are indeed playing an Alpha.

Do you think features and functionality mean roughly the same thing?
No. SC has neither, in a complete state anyway.

"Alpha software may contain serious errors, and any resulting instability could cause crashes or data loss."
This whole Alpha section reminds me of Star Citizen. Wonder why.

Ok, what about Chris own definition of what an alpha is?

So if, as you say, SC does not have either features or functionalities complete, it seems it is not yet an alpha even according to Chris himself.

So it looks like we are back to pre-alpha or tech demo and Bognogus was probably correct.

Someone put the "alpha" term at the SC website but that is not what Chris Roberts defined as such, and therefore it is probably misleading advertising, as even you agree that what we have (after 10+ years and 400+ million wasted) is obviously much worst than Chris definition of an alpha.

Looking forward to the mental gymnastics though. Always entertaining.

According to me as well. An alpha needs to contain implementations of all the systems. Not necessarily of all the content, but systems need to be there. In this case we are talking about an online game without the online layer implemented yet. There is only a placeholder. I am not even going to mention all the gameplay loops.

Star Citizen is still a demo of itself.

lol, no

Well that was highly anticlimactic, but I guess they learned their lesson
Rather than continuing to display release projections that carry a high percentage chance of moving (those multiple quarters out), we will no longer show any deliverables in the Release View for any patches beyond the immediate one in the next quarter.
