Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

It's all got to be super real like star citizen. If Elite stop trying to make star citizen they can make something great

It doesn't appear that FD are trying to be super real like SC.

But yes, wise words there, don't try and copy SC. Because if you do, you end up with Star Citizen :D

I'm confused now... are you a shill or a skeptic!?

Surely (don't call me Shirley) the fidelity in other parts of the game should be reflected in its most basic functionality, how the ships fly.

Backers will happily accept no-clip in space type flight with some momentum thrown in to simulate inertia but at the same time insist that having to play Star Commuter on a train, take bio breaks, not run too fast or they'll overheat, eat/drink or they'll die and all the rest of it is great because fidelity?

And don't tell me the flight model has real physics it just looks like no-clip in space because reasons. If it flies like no-clip in space, feels like no-clip in space and acts like it it is no-clip in space no matter what you say. Arguing otherwise is saying a duck is not a duck because I said so now shut up and sticking your fingers in your ears.
Welcome to spaceflight! You may notice, there is a lack of an atmosphere, so do not expect to have any resistance!. Judging a flight model by how it "looks" is a pretty bad way to judge things. If you dont like commuter citizen and the feeling of travelling through a huge city, play elite.

To me it seems like a lot of you don't like SC just because it's different from Elite, and put the stupid backers down because how dare they enjoy their train ride!

"I'm a real boy!"

I'm just a chap that's happy with what I got for £60. Sure it doesn't take much to make me happy (hence my many hours, ships, and 'discoveries' in Elite).

Anything added after I paid them money, I will consider a bonus.
He'll if I'm still playing the game next year (depending on the hours I've sunk and other factors) I might.... MIGHT even consider paying irl cash for a ship like a prospector or something - though I have a feeling that by then it won't be necessary.

Like give me the option to buy an Anaconda for irl money may have appealed to me, when I first started. But now, well what's the point. Even from a new account I could get that cash fairly quickly.

So neither shill nor skeptic

"No clip" has nothing to do with atmospheric resistance. And you have the nerve to accuse other people of not knowing what they're talking about.

Well then define "no clip". I've not seen or experienced anything to what you're vaguely describing as "what it looks like", I don't think you even play the game.

Naaa the amount of data to be exchanged between 2 capital ships with 100 crew each is not actually that big.

Given the server cap for the foreseeable future is still 50 players, there are actually some pretty significant issues there…

Not least being the general principle, as voiced by this Zenimax MMO dev, that twitch combat between servers is a non-starter.

You only need to care about the data of things that exit the ship , turret / weapon positions and damage.

That would be the case if turret operators couldn’t see out of the ship, if scanning operators weren’t a planned addition, and things like external cameras too…

Source: https://old.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/rv281y/external_cameras_incoming/

Essentially if CIG weren’t set on having every cake and eating them too…

And that’s before you get to all the other issues, such as the ones mentioned by the dev in the quoted post, regarding client load being as much of an issue with high player encounters as server limitations.

But don’t worry mate, I’m sure these devs are all worrying about nothing. It’ll all be sorted easily when remote streaming takes off properly. Or something ;)

Buying ship with IRL money in Elite would make you just pretty unhappy customer. 'cause buying ship does not buy skill needed to operate it :) And big ships are somewhat tricky to master.

Lets say for example botched planetary landing. With big ship time between point of no return and actual crash may be considerable. You just have time for futile efforts and to curse yourself....
