No Man's Sky
Someone on Reddit was saying you don't have to use the wave-yer-arms-about control system to pilot your spacecraft if you don't want to. I don't know if this is a new option, or if I just couldn't figure out how to choose it, but at some point in the future I'll have to reinstall NMS and give it another go

Not being snarky for its own sake here, but having looked at the holo-table again (having been impressed by that latest concept montage, if not by the tardiness ;))...

It looks like a mammoth pain to use. It seems you have to physically rotate your character around to see everything, while also mousing over stuff? That's going to be incredibly clunky if they stick with that. (Not to mention the 'physicalised items' listing style doubtless being more cumbersome to use than a classic list etc).

Looks like another case of style over substance to be honest. Would expect moans to follow fairly shortly after the rapturous reception ;)
It is above all a completely VR ready and VR easy to use interface.

No Man's Sky
No Man’s Sky isn't VR on foot. It’s a seated FPS-VR experience, which is something different. It was designed with Playstation VR in mind. Trying to play it on foot, AKA roomscale VR, was a frustrating experience for me, because the HUD wouldn't turn with me, and the interface would stop working or do weird things if I wasn't facing the HUD. Seated VR, OTOH, remains a nauseating experience for me, because I've always been sensitive to rotation on the yaw axis. I've always avoided spinning rides at amusement parks, and forced rotation on the yaw axis is fairly frequent in when it comes FPS-style gameplay. I'm perfectly fine if I'm in a cockpit, or playing on a monitor, real or virtual, but when it comes to FPS-style gameplay? Seated-VR is a hard pass.

Should NMS do a proper implementation of roomscale VR, I'm willing to give it another go. Until that day, I'll pass. NMS does far too many things I don't enjoy to add what I consider bad VR to the mix.

Still waiting for the day when Star Citizen implements VR, especially their implementation on foot. There's currently tons of unnecessary forced animations, which will make NMS's VR tame in comparison.

Yeah got my extra 100hrs out of NMSVR :)

But you can't clip out of a station while drinking a beer there.
That's why I play Barotrauma: Blew up half the ship, der Captain and the Chief Mechanic with nuclear shell. Now Caruso, Head Clown has taken command and we've been cruising countless stations to find captain.
Once we do we draft new ship order which guarantees ample supply of ethanol and methomeme or wossname for the crew. I also plan to put crew into crow's nest outside the ship so we can have more guns. Just need to figure out how.

Nothing say this UI will replace mobiglass. It can be the UI dedicated only to VR (as the virtual keyboard suggest it).

Sure Ant, the Hangar holo table, shown being used with classical mouse cursor, is in fact some form of global VR interface.

Wonderful to have you back confabulating unmentioned future functionality from sizzle reels.

(I imagine it's preferable to dwelling on the poor current state of 3.17 and the delays to 3.18 ;))

About that, fun thread: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/...orum/3/thread/its-literally-unplayable-for-me

“Its literally unplayable for me...

...I cannot a elevator. I have to kill myself to revive in a hospital. When I did this I have all kinds of bugs.

30k, client crashes, vehicles not reacting, vehicles not accessable....I could go on.

How should I alpha test when not a single mission is doable for me.

Just now another client crash. Vehicle with 2 ground vehicles ist destroyed. All my gear is gone. Now I have to load the vehicles again.

This is not even an alpha. I cannot test.

Disgraceful hyperbole. The game is playable right now...

1. Started the "Failed Negotiations" mission. It was going well, but I went back to grab some of the armor off of the dead bodies. This was a mistake. Grabbed the second piece of armor, and it glitched, causing me to smash into walls repeatedly, breaking my arm and causing my health to tick down. I got back to my ship, but died before I could attempt to get back to safety.
2. Respawned, jumped to the L2 point to complete the mission. Made 25k.
3. Jumped to lyria in my 315p to look for my cutlass. There's no marker for it so I give up. Accepted the same mission in a different area. Arrived at the mission, ignoring the armor. Took an elevator to shut off the gravity. Elevator killed me.
3. Respawned, managed to get back to the Reclaimer wreck. Can't activate the elevator because my body is blocking it..Tried to jump down and survive the fall. Landed on my head and died. Logged out.

Total time: 90 minutes.
Money made: 25k.

This game knows how to suck my time for very little reward.

Meh, Barotrauma sucks my time too. After the nukular incident I considered starting new. Because come time and upgrades the current one is basically too OP (it's how I blew meself up).

So I started over in older workshop boat. Guy hadn't O2 hooked up so you need to handle all the O2 bottles yerself. Too much micro.
Then I loaded new in other ship. It's rather long. Too long and I cannot be arsened.
Tried two more but there we are. I think I just go on with Caruso in the OP ship. I still can blow up myself if it goes too smooth. OP ship has the inventory so neatly linked to fabricators and I've never seen any boat like this.

IIRC, it is possible to organize dogfights in places where you can't get a crimestat?
Not in SC really - even though they seem to have different jurisdictions depending on which SOI you are in roughly (each main planet basically) they all implement the exact same rules. And since there's only one system we cannot check if other systems would have different laws - though I suspect from the fluff text we see in game that should be centered around each planetary influence (so for instance, Crusader Security for the planet of the same name and its moons, ArcCorp or Hurston for their respective planets..) - to be fair crimestat is buggered in so many ways to start with (like giving you CS for any reason like server lag and so on...) they should start fixing it before implementing more complicated ways to handle it.

You are right, I change my mind.
If this holo table make it to the game, it will be usable with and without VR, too much work on it to not use it for non VR.
For what I see, if they make it a little less wide, it can be really enjoyable to use with a mouse.
And it will be pretty darn good to use it in VR.
